Ryan Cayabyab is like the David Foster of the Philippines. He's written so many hit songs and is considered a legend in the country. But "You are My Song" was written by Martin for Regine.
Your comment is not a compliment at all. He is his own artistry. Stop comparing Filipino artists to those of the West as if our artists do not have their own identity.

@@magic91tv80 You can simply say he is a prolific composer who has written hit songs. There's no context needed. Using another artist as a point of reference could be undermining. I'd go even further by saying that Ryan Cayabyab has composed songs way more intricate than David Foster, because Cayabyab's songs are standards and are stylistically for musicals.

You are my Song is written by Martin Nievera he wrote the song for Regine in 1996 They use that song as a theme song in Regine's movie called "Wanted Perfect Mother" then Martin revived and he added bridge ...the one who played Piano is our National Artist of the Philippines Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and the man standing is her concert director...

What i love about regine is that she comes as a special guest on every new artists’ concerts for free, no fee whatsoever! I mean she’s freaking regine velasquez, could you imagine how much she could’ve gotten paid but chose not to. Now that’s a real queen.
Fun fact: she also has no makeup artist, she does her makeup on her own. 💘
I think the reason why she does this is because when she was starting Martin, Pops et al would do the same for free as well. So now that she is in the pedestal, she’d help the upcoming artists. I think she mentioned this during the Boy Abunda interview.
The voice of regine Velasquez is unparallel . . You can't compare because the more high it gets higher! The quality it gets given her natural voice is unlimited that's why she's incomparable and exceptional . . and also she has a soft mi-d low key sweet voice . . Martin Nievera shared in an interview that he wrote the lyrics for "You Are My Song" while in a traffic stoplight. He then sent the lyrics to Louie Ocampo who arranged it for Regine. Makes the song more amazing, right?
Most singers would produce thinner sound as they go higher. Regine just becomes more powerful when she gets to her higher range.

Mr.Ryan Cayabyab is a National Artist he composed a lot of songs and some musicals. "You are My Song," is composed by Martin and Louie Ocampo the man playing the piano in Sarah's rehersal that you watched.
Regine is kind of singer who would sang other artist song and make it more popular than the original and make people think that it's Regine's original song.
Even Martin Nievera complaint that when Regine sang his songs it make it hard for him to sang it again.

Regine's father trained her to sing when she was little. She told the story in one her interviews of how they would go to a river and her father would make her practice singing with her body underwater. That's why she's able to sing and belt songs in any body position.

What I love about you two is the focus on those aspects of performance as I can understand more the 'magic' of a performance and the true expertise of the artist that may be missed in a casual perception of a performance. The pianist is Maestro Ryan Cayabyab aka Mr. C (National Artist of the Phil. for Music). He was the chairman of the board of judges for Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984 (The New Champion) when Regine (then known as Chona Velasquez) won the grand prize singing George Benson's "In Your Eyes". It was basically Martin Nievera who made Regine a household name when she became a regular guest in his Sunday musical show "Penthouse Live" which Martin co-hosted with his ex-wife Pops Fernandez (the two became a couple during the show)! Pops Fernandez is one of the singers in the retro 80's video you previously reacted. The other lady being the Megastar Sharon Cuneta!

Regine with the "titanium Lungs"... so much power, doesn't run out of air, hence, her smooth progression thru out the song as if she is not breathing.

Oh, whenever you mention back anchoring I think of Pilita Corrales. She's one of the seniors of the OPM world and she discovered and made stars of some of the biggest singers. Martin Nievera being the prime example. If you watch her sing anything, you'd see why she's the first to come to mind snd why that move actually was her signature...to the point that if you're playing charades and her name comes up, showing that move will surely get you the right answer within 10 seconds...maybe even less.

This was actually a pop Love song..they just changed the arrangement to fit perfectly for Regine..by the way this was originally sang by Regine and became the theme song of her first starring role as a.m actress via her movie Wanted Perfect Mother in late 90s. This was written by Martin Nievera and Louie Ocampo for Regine’s launching movie which became hit that time
Martin Nievera is the original singer of "You are my song" revived by Regine Velasquez. Regine did the highest version of this song and included on her R2k album which became the song more well known all over the Philippines. The next song " You'll never walk alone" was a piece of Regine Velasquez when she joined the Asia Pacific Singing Contest 1988 where she's the champion. She won.
Here in the Philippines if you are part of a chorale or studying music you were trained most of the time on a very challenging environment like singing while sitting, lying down on the floor, singing while in the pool etc. So it is finding relaxation even at the most difficult environment.
Regine makes rehearsals difficult, she goes through impossible positions so the actual performance becomes easier for her. 😊

The album "The Great Original Pilipino Music by Ryan Cayabyab", featuring the San Miguel Master Chorale and the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra, is awesome. i heard from long ago that it was her dad who trained her to sing during her youth... with techniques like singing while submerged chest high in the pool, and how she's not allowed to drink cold water, she got used to drinking lukewarm or warm water... stuff like that. don't know how true those anecdotes are.

Martin and Regine are NOT musical theater actors/singers.They are the country's top balladeers in the MAINSTREAM. We have a different set of superstars in the musical theaters here like Lea Salonga, Monique Wilson, etc.etc.
