I bought a 160b (Murray) Detroit built car here in the UK last August, and I love it! It was used as a Wedding car by the 5 previous owners here. It started life as a Dark blue/Black Police car (but is fitted with an earlier 1929 engine) bodywork is now Cream and black, but still has it fully working Police siren on the dark blue firewall which surprises a few people! My car now has turn signals in the Cowl lights, and the rear lights with yellow lenses, which double as brake lights! They should be Red really here in the UK, but I have yet to be pulled over!
Thanks! OK this sold me on a 4 door, thanks as I was looking for a 2door like I had and drove back in 1958, now in my 80's must get another one to drive. thanks so much for your help. Back in 1958 we had no gloves just got hands dirty part of the days work.
Hi Paul, I love the videos. I'm only 38 but fell in love with the old model A. Just started watching your videos and soaking up the knowledge. I want to get a '31 pickup someday. I also have couple tractors couple of my Great Grandpas bought new back in the 40s/50s. So I love the old machines and thought the old pickup would go great on a small hobby farm. Did I mention before that I love the 4 door Model A, and that one is a beauty. So stylish and appealing to the eye, wonderful old car. Great video Paul, I love the effort and explanations that you put in all your videos, thanks a lot. I hope you all have a great weekend!
Dear Paul ,another great video .Iappreciated some of the differences from a regular four door. Ido have a 30 170B DL blind back- your right ,poor visiblity when backing up! Again, thank you for another great presentation about the cars I love.
Hi Paul, my first car is a 160A. My car is May 1931. I was told that the 160 A is rare because most were converted into 160B's. Also, the 160A has artificial leather seat and was used as a taxi. The 160A has unique interior door handles (very rare).
Grew up in 160A that dad converted to an 160B. It was first car I drove. It replaced his 30 coupe. Dad later swapped the 160a for a 28 Whippet once we were old enough to ride in rumble seat. Good ride for family of 5.
I’ve been learning all that I can in my build up to hopefully owning an A. This video filled in some blanks in my knowledge. Thank you for another great video, Paul!
@@ModelA Ironically... Friday when I was driving home from work two dumba§şes were racing or road-raging. One guy darted from the fast lane to the slow lane where I was cruising my Comanche. I saw it coming so I slowed. Dumbskull lost it and he spun 90 degrees maybe 10 feet in front of me until he slid off the road. When he hit the dirt he kicked up a cloud of debris that I went through. 30 minutes later when I got home and parked..... my radiator was hissing. I've been sick this weekend, but I'll have to swap that radiator maybe today or tomorrow and I was thinking of adding a metal mesh grill and or screen behind my plastic oem grill. I still have rocks and sticks in my grill. 😠
This car could be a copy of my slant window. I love mine it has a Mitchell overdrive and a B engine with dual updraft zeniths ( really goes fast for a Model A) . A feature that they have is a adjustable front seat ( great for tall people) . I’ve added a 6 volt to 12 volt transformer that gives me a 12 volt power outlet. The car came to me with a 6 volt outlet also. ( really looked good with Christmas lights while driving around Brecksville Ohio).I love your shows they really “ deliver the goods” .Thanks
One of our members here in the Northern Virginia Model A club (the George Washington Chapter of MAFCA), Jim Baker, had (he recently passed away) a maroon slant windshield sedan he had built especially for touring including the V8 wheels and a sunroof. He and his wife toured thousands of miles in that car so perhaps you (Paul) have seen it. Last year he gave a presentation to a club meeting about the car, his decision process in the changes he made when restoring it, and some of the trips they had taken.
I love these reviews! You fill in the details in a great and engaging way. If you wanted, you could probably open up a virtual dealership for selling A's and be very successful!
Nice video again Paul! I think, i don't remove my windshield visor. It looks lovely on a Model A. And yess the engine is so powerful! Keep on Model A'ing!
Nice car for sure I’m just afraid I don’t have room for another car right now the real reason is I can’t afford anymore toys. Great and informative video thanks. A ride along would have been cool 😎. Thanks friend
One tiny correction: you mentioned that the Slant Window was introduced in mid 1931; actually they were introduced in February. This particular car is one of the early ones as it has the gas shutoff under the tank and not the indented firewall. Beautiful car, and you're right; the 160-A,B and C are the most comfortable and luxurious of the Model As.
@@ModelA Hey Paul, I think you are more on the spot on the mid-31 introduction date for the Slant Window. The Slant Windows came out for sale in May of 1931 and were only produced for about 7 months. It was the first all-steel structure fordor for Ford and it was produced with all interchangeable parts between Ford, Murray and Briggs. Wood was only used for the top and for mounting interior parts. If one's engine number is a Feb 1931 assembly date, per the RG&JS the vehicle assembly date could be as much as 4 months later making the May date for introduction for the Slant Window. The assembly date for a vehicle may be as long as three months after the date the engine was produced (four months in 1931).
Educational and to the point, you are passing on knowledge for the younger folks. Next do a Victoria or a hint hint the A400? I had thought that these two were all steel too. Surprise surprise!
First, Happy and Healthy New Year! Second, this is very informative regarding the Slant Window (S/W) Fordor Sedan. It really helps folks distinguish the various body styles. Third, have you already or would you consider doing similar sessions on other Model A body styles? Folks don't realize how many body styles were available with the Model A. In terms of slant windows in 1931, there was the Fordor, Victoria, Convertible Sedan, and Cabriolet, I believe.
Absolutely love the channel! You guys are a wealth of knowledge and make such informative and enjoyable videos! Quick question for the next Q&A video. Where does one buy model A paint? I’ve been looking for nitro cellulose lacquer in factory colours but haven’t had much luck so far. Any input on the subject would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 😊

Paul, thank you. I've wanted to know more about the Slant Window cars, and you filled us in well. This particular car is beautiful, and the owner has made some very nice changes to it. I would love to buy it, but I can't fit it into my limited garage spaces. Would you give us a tutorial on heaters some time? God bless.
Chicle Drab and Copra Drab are really beautiful shades of brown. Somewhere along the line, paint formulas where polluted and these colors turned into shades of gray. Newer restorations are getting back to the correct colors. Slants, like this example, are really handsome cars.
I agree with you 100 % on the Deluxe part. One of my favorite videos is the one with Tina riding around in the rumble seat laughing the whole time. All model A'ers should try that at least once.
@@madman-pv9qd Hahaha! Good reply! I couldn't wrap my mind around your saying that it looks like an old man's car. And I thought, how old is this guy? I read on and found out that you're only 70. I thought maybe you were my dad's age, early '90s. But being a tad older than me, I guess you meant "like an old mans car" compared to a '70-'72 Cuda or the like. The rumble seat video I recall was the Christmas Lights Drive and Tina was having fun being camerawoman from the rumble seat. I enjoyed watching she and Paul having fun. My grandmother was born in 1900. When I was a kid, I mentioned to her that I thought rumble seats were cool. And she told me that they were dangerous. Of course, I asked why? And she went on, that years ago, she had a friend that was riding in a rumble seat and died. Apparently, the driver had hit something ahead and my grandmother said that her friend "broke her chest" on the metal that's forward of where one sits. And that, no one else in the car was injured much. When I got older and came across photos of rumble seats, I saw how someone could die from a forward collision. So rumble seats got ruined for me for all time. And when I saw Model T-ina riding in it, fun as it was, I was concerned. Jeez, I didn't mean to be a party pooper, I started out all happy. Lovely car. (And, no, I have no idea why our cars have boots)... (So I looked it up. Goes back to the C18th, when the coaches would have a 'boot locker' hanging on the back. Presumably boot theft was all the rage back in the day)... 🇬🇧👍

Question. I've heard of issues having the 4 door because of the wood. Meaning the wood can warp and cause issues and noises. Is it then better than I was told to have a 4 door. Meaning if garage kept should have no issues. Plus with myself having a spare tire (beer belly) heard the tudor you can flip the seat hinges and give you more space. Lastly paul as a funny joke I was hoping you would pop the windshield out and say and now it's a slant window.
My husband had a slant windshield but it was already streetrodded when he got it. He saw a blindback in beckley WV several years ago. He read that there were only 4589 total slant windshields built. 750 blindbacks There was a blindback on ebay several weeks ago with price of over 46 thousand dollars. Thanks for the videos. Is there anyway to get your email address?
I don't have the exact numbers, but the 160C is aorta rare. But I sure see a lot of them. My email appears in some videos. But be warned, I get between 100 and 300 emails a DAY. I cannot possibly see all of them.
My grandfather had a slant window model A 4 door, it had at least 1 fender mount spare tire, I can’t tell if there is a passenger mount spare tire in the pictures
Hi Paul , My wife and I recently inherited my late father in laws 1930 Model A 4 door sedan . I’m in the process of getting in running again and I need to purchase a decent shop manual . Would you have any recommendations? I need something with some detailed pictures . He unfortunately had disassembled a few things . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi Paul, My father has one identical to this and we are hoping you may be able to assist. Would you know the names/codes for the paint on this slant window? Dads has some minor damage to the paint along the rain gutter which needs repair and we would like to match it as close as possible. Thanks for any assistance.
Hi Paul, I just watched your latest video re the 160A/B Slant Winshield Town Sedan. I have one that is in the same colour scheme and would appreciate if you may be able to adise the colours of the car in the video, as I have just purchased mine and wish to establish the correct colours. As always, thanks for your assistance. My car doesn't have the sun visors mounted to the roof, so will now start looking for a pair. Kind Regards Bill
Are there major differences between US build Model A and Germany/Cologne build Model A? As far as I know there was a smaller engine available on the Cologne build for tax reasons…
Paul, you mentioned no wood in this 4 door, all metal. Did I hear you incorrectly in earlier videos where I thought you said the 4 doors incorporated wood thus giving them a superior ride, but some potential to watch out for wood rot? Thanks for any clarification.
An off topic question but is it normal for a model A to gurgles and hiss while idling? The car seems to idle very smoothly and doesn't seem to skip a beat while accelerating.
I hear that a lot. Some carbs just don't atomize the fuel as efficiently as others. Clean out the passages and the jets and it just gently hisses after that, and fuel economy goes up too.
@@ModelA I'll give it a try! I have noticed the fuel economy seems pretty low I've never actually measured it but that makes sense. Thank you! I enjoy your videos its helped alot im only 25 but I really enjoy these old cars!
@@ModelA thanks I caught the bug from my grandfather. We still go together to car shows they are his cars if you see my one shifting model a video that I made I was inspired by your video to try it out and I really prefer that method of upshifting! My grandfather was impressed too!

Buckminster Fuller claimed that a Model A Ford is more aerodynamic running backwards than forwards. He then built a huge teardrop-shaped car powered by a Ford engine in the rear but powering the front wheels. The single rear wheel steered via steel cables. This unsound rear steering design was treacherous as a little too much steering lock would skew the car sideways as it attempted to turn 180 degrees in its own length. Three were built before Fuller went on to other radical futuristic projects. Look up Dymaxion Automobile for more.
Love the channel and content. However, from one GenX-er to another: please for the love of all that is holy please drop the cringe AF tagline: “boomerest car channel on TH-cam”. Ugh. Your wonderful personality and humor already come though just fine. Age distinctions serve no purpose and will always alienate _some_ portion of the audience. Leave it behind and just let your content and these beautiful vehicles sing for themselves.
Thanks for the tip. It's a tip of the hat to a very close Model A friend of mine who passed away a couple years ago unexpectedly. A few days before he passed, he watched some of my videos and sent me an email that simply said "You are the boomerest car channel on TH-cam". That is the very last thing he ever said to me. I loved him so much. So, it's just an inside joke between me and my dear friend of so many years, whom I spent so much time with, and so many great memories. I hope you can tolerate it.
Hi Paul, My first car is a slant window briggs. It is a 160A . I was told that they are rare. Most have been converted to the deluxe 160B. Another difference between the 160A and B are the interior door handles. The 160A had unique handles not the same as the 160B. It took me over 30 years to find my handles.

Another interesting video thanks Paul.
Is the' Two door 'correct or is it Tudor as I see in some adverts .
Peter
Ford calls it "tudor". That is correct
@@ModelA ok thanks!
@@ModelA No doubt Henry liked the "royalty" of the name Tudor 😉
@@amicidavinci Yep. Quirky guy. I think by today's standards, Henry Ford would be on the autism spectrum.
@@ModelA Many geniuses are, and Ford was a genius.
Know l know.....Thanks Paul for such a fine review of a "Slant Window Sedan" Ford Model A 👍
Shoe🇺🇸
My husband had a slant windshield but it was already streetrodded when he got it. He saw a blindback in beckley WV several years ago. He read that there were only 4589 total slant windshields built. 750 blindbacks
There was a blindback on ebay several weeks ago with price of over 46 thousand dollars. Thanks for the videos. Is there anyway to get your email address?
I don't have the exact numbers, but the 160C is aorta rare. But I sure see a lot of them. My email appears in some videos. But be warned, I get between 100 and 300 emails a DAY. I cannot possibly see all of them.
Nice car!!
You forgot schmancy. It's fancy schmancy.
Hahahaaa!! Thanks for settin me straight!
Excellent! You need the red book. Here's a link- www.mafca.com/cart/index.php?productID=166
Hi Paul, My father has one identical to this and we are hoping you may be able to assist.
Would you know the names/codes for the paint on this slant window? Dads has some minor damage to the paint along the rain gutter which needs repair and we would like to match it as close as possible.
Thanks for any assistance.
That's copra drab over chicle drab
Hi Paul, I just watched your latest video re the 160A/B Slant Winshield Town Sedan. I have one that is in the same colour scheme and would appreciate if you may be able to adise the colours of the car in the video, as I have just purchased mine and wish to establish the correct colours. As always, thanks for your assistance. My car doesn't have the sun visors mounted to the roof, so will now start looking for a pair. Kind Regards Bill
That's Copra Drab over Chichle Drab. you can find the paint chips and codes in the MAFCA paint guide book.
Are there major differences between US build Model A and Germany/Cologne build Model A?
As far as I know there was a smaller engine available on the Cologne build for tax reasons…
I believe the smaller engine for European Fords was the main difference. RHD also for some.
Did this car get sold? How much? Thanks again.
Yes/ Asking price
Paul, you mentioned no wood in this 4 door, all metal. Did I hear you incorrectly in earlier videos where I thought you said the 4 doors incorporated wood thus giving them a superior ride, but some potential to watch out for wood rot? Thanks for any clarification.
The non-slant fordors are made of wood. The slant window is all metal (structurally)
@@ModelA That's the difference, thank you so much for clarifying that. Quite a difference!
Anyone have a picture of the factory assembly plant stamp
Oh, Paul? How well 'sorted' is this A? I may have to bug Noel about it.
I think fairly well. I'm not a fan of the 12v conversion or the wheels, but it drives everywhere.
@@ModelA I am going to give it serious consideration. Thanks for your opinion.
25 and already a rock star of old cars. Well done, my man!
@@ModelA thanks I caught the bug from my grandfather. We still go together to car shows they are his cars if you see my one shifting model a video that I made I was inspired by your video to try it out and I really prefer that method of upshifting! My grandfather was impressed too!
Here's how you can review automatic captions and make changes, if needed:
Sign in to TH-cam Studio.
From the left menu, select Subtitles.
Click the video you want to add captions or subtitles to.
Under “Subtitles”, click More next to the subtitles you want to edit.
Review automatic captions and edit or remove any parts that haven't been properly transcribed.
OK, I did it for this video. Is it working?
YES!! Thank you!
What kind of price range can one expect for a nice representation such as this sedan?
$20-$25K I think they are asking less than that.
Comfort ? I rode in one of them. my friends dump truck was similar but It had ps. And ac 🥳 about the wife's roadster a deli owner I knew bought his wife a 80 year old classic toaster for her birthday 🎉 she told him she loved it loves grand 💕
I wonder the color pallet, looks like copra drab/chicle drab/straw. Hard to tell with the light tinting hard. Any experts around with a kin eye to tell? 🙂
It is Copra and Chickle. Good job!
@@ModelA 😅 ahaha thank you ♥
Cupholders !!
Its too bad you had to add music toward the end cause it then was too hard to hear you . But a good report anyway .
Was that a dad cameo behind the car or maybe the owner ?
The owner
So are slant windows any more aerodynamic than other Model As?
All Model As are as aerodynamic as a tool cabinet. The SW is slightly better.
Still for sale?
Sorry, no
What is the significance of the B cylinder head
It's a fairly rare Ford-made Model A hop-up part.
@@ModelA thank you
So did someone buy it? And fer how much $$ ?
Yes. Asking price.
I don't think they would swap my 2006 MDX... would they?
Depends... is the MDX stuffed with thousand of $$ in cash?
How much did that Slant Window Sedan sell for?
Private transaction
Did they offer a version of this for funeral use(not hearse)?
Also, did Ford ever make a Modrl A hearse?
I don't know
@@ModelA Thanks, I was just curious... Love your channel!
IT IS CALLED SLANT WINSHIELD !
Around the MAFCA folks, it's "slant window". But, technically, you're right.
Hi Paul,
My first car is a slant window briggs. It is a 160A . I was told that they are rare. Most have been converted to the deluxe 160B. Another difference between the 160A and B are the interior door handles. The 160A had unique handles not the same as the 160B. It took me over 30 years to find my handles.
@@ModelA Not to mention that, if your TH-cam demographic breakdown looks anything like mine, it's the literal truth.
Has 32 wheels.
Really?
fantastic car. kinda sexy
I know, right??!!!
She's sweet.Great info.Color combo is beautiful.Thanks Paul..Thats all I got to say.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks!
Thank you Richard!!! Wow, you are so kind!
