Said it once. Said it a thousand times. The GCR should have never been scrapped during the beeching cuts. It has everything needed for HS2. The infrastructure was built to last centuries. Such a shame that it’s all being demolished. I used to live in Leicester and year after year more of the past infrastructure has disappeared
The alignment or curves of the GCR did not allow for for speeds above 110mph. More importantly, it did not go anywhere near Birmingham. The entire point of HS2 is to release capacity from stations like New Street which is the country's worst bottleneck.
I was in there on Tuesday morning delivering more concrete culvert sections. Grabbed a photo as I guessed that the bridge would be gone by the time I returned. Thanks for sharing your video.
I guess we can all be thankful that there is a 19 mile preservation movement between Leicester north and Ruddington, still keeping the spirit of the old GCR alive.
It is very sad to see a fantastic part of our railway history dying! BUT with Death Comes Rebirth! I hope they do keep something of the GCR somewhere along that section, they probably won't but hey maybe if certain parts aren't life expired they could be put to use further up the Great Central Railway at a preserved site maybe! As I write this I just heard you say you had spoken to someone and they maybe donating some of the Side wall bricks to one of the heritage sites up further! I hope they had done that at Finmere and donated some bits that could go to "Tarting up" East Leake station further up I know they're not looking to reopen it but make it look presentable for when one day in the not too distant future the GCR becomes an InterCity Railway once again well Nottingham (Ruddington) - Leicester North

Those capping stones wilprobablylbe reused on so e of the new ridges that the modern GCR is having to bui. D to reconnect their two sections of line at Loughborough. I can't remember the name of the project but there are several videos about it.

No, the condition of that bridge has been bad for a long time. The deck beems are badly corroded, and the North side brickwork has very large cracks in it.
