- Video to demonstrate how to remove the copper winding's from electric motors and the stators. To preform this method, I will demonstrate you need very few tools to quickly and efficiently remove the copper out of electric motors. This method can be used on nearly all motors!
Makes total sense, cutting them in half, only half the usual length to travel to come out. Thanks for sharing. Aloha
A great way to do tear downs.
I went to your channel for some other ideas but didn’t see anything.
Keep posting your ideas here!
Seems like an easier solution/way for these & for other part-time scrappers like me.
Thanks for the video
This is the best method i have seen! Thank you!!!
Came back to this video to say it works perfectly. This tool and a pointed pry bar are the two must have in the shop for scraping copper stator
Thank you so much for sharing
I'm happy it worked out for you
Very nice system. Cutting in half makes the pulling so much easier.
Absolutely! When I do the 'cut one side through the copper routine' It cost (depending on the size of the motor) much more friction, struggling, energy and time to get the stuff out. Hammering the blade cost no energy.
I am actually wondering what the result will be if you don't cut ones in the middle, but instead make two cuts close to the ends. It will divide it in three parts, so the friction is much lesser, which makes removing the copper easier. Well, it's a theory, perhaps valid enough to experiment with?
You also could use a makeshift guillotine like press cutter. Using an old hydraulic carjack (electrical or just manual) and mount this in a square frame, to which you mount the blade you used now, in downward direction.
Advantage, is less power, less noise and danger of hitting your hands. Will be faster if you use an electric one, but a manual jack will do.
Nice job. I'm tired of cutting the windings on one end. The sawzall pulls too many wires out, a hacksaw is just tiring, and a grinder eats discs. If I could make something to put on my wood splitter it would be great
Woow so simple but so clever. What an excellent creation to think up. Will be viewing my scrap pile to see whats available to recreate this beauty. 10 outta 10 from here in Blighty (UK). Cheers Joe ;-) ;-) ;-)
Used YOUR idea Yesterday , Worked Great , Double Thanks , Used 2 Good quality Putty Knifes
Good to see!
I always like a new and easier technique to remove that copper. Great idea.
Really great job, in my opinion. The plow coulter works great! I saw someone use a machete and bang it with a hammer. Works pretty well. I think the coulter section works even better! The geometry looks right, from the start. Those stators came out of oil filled 'sealed units' or? They look pretty big. Maybe I'm used to seeing refrigerator ones which wouldn't have to cool as much (lower ton/btu rating) I love how you go straight at it! Much obliged!
I would of never thought of this. Thank you :)
No problem
Wow good idea. That was easy especially when there's no power tools to use. Thanks for the info.
Just picked a disc up /coulter from a local farming business!!
Dobra robota 👍👍pozdrowienia z Polski😀😀
I have a Harbor Freight hand log splitter it uses a hydraulic type jack and a single bit axe.
Great idea thanks I have one too. It's pretty beat up don't use it much for wood anymore but sounds perfect for scrapping
Nice. Always looking for new methodology.
Many shops will utilize a pointed blade 5 or 6 inches wide, or more, mounted on a hydraulic ram inside an arbor press frame. But for the hobbist who doesn't have access to big machinery this method is acceptable and efficient.
Stay safe in your endeavors.
Nice demonstration.
nice, got a bunch of sealed motors stored up, always hated grinding copper, i'd happily take longer to do it manually, and this is much quicker.
That looks way easier then the way I was doing it. I was cutting one end and using an air chisel
I will be trying that with some of mine
I use a machete from harbor freight and a two pound hammer. Then an air chisel to quickly remove the copper.
That might work but I would have my doubts the steel on a cheap machete would handle the blows.
@@Vicsonvee fiskars brand not exactly cheap but it has held up after several hundred stators
Add that to some kind of lever and it would split those like butter. I like it. Useful as is but could be modified for even easier use
I was thinking the same thing.
Drill a couple holes or weld a plate on top. That way you can save your knuckles!
Have to keep an eye open for one of those disc plates.
i use a axe head to split it in half, u have to grind it long and thin ,so one hit with a 5 pound sledge and it sticks in the plates, then it works great,, i also have a 20 inch flat blade screw driver i modded by grinding the flat end almost to a point leaving 1/8 of the end wide, grind it so the end is no wider than the main shaft, mine is square, it goes into small openings in copper wire easy, a few hammer hits on the end ,and yes the plastic handle will break off,and then just pry the copper out.
People always ask how I get copper from a burnt motor. Basically a heat gun is your best friend
That does look pretty easy. Thank you. Looking forward to trying this
Yea give it a try and see what you think
That was a great idea. Thank you 4 sharing
Great video. Thanks for the idea.
Great split , nice simple method, my only s suggestion would be to increasing your striking surface at the top of the blade, I use a meat cleaver on small transformers great video thanks!!!
I was gonna do that.
I use a tire iron to pull the wire. A single bar with a flat on one end and bent on the other with a socket. Done 1k plus.
Pry bar is 2 ft behind the vise, an looks to be the best way yet.
I'd be scared to use your slitter ,but on the other hand your method is good ,nice work ,I tried i different method for stator moters ,I don't really time myself doing them ,under 3min per stator moter ,can you tell me how long it takes you with tha😊to super splitter, I've never seen this way of cutting a stator in half as quick as you did
all my local scrap yards would scream about the strings/loom.
Love it my friend
Great idea! Thanks or sharing,
many thanks...good idea
That's why the coil is coming out easy, it soaked in oil
Nope, it works for all motors oiled or not
What about using a splitting wedge? Mught try today thanks my dude
@@patmurch6184 hope it works for you
@@Vicsonvee thanks! I didn't get around to it last week, hoping to in next couple days I'll let y'all know
Ingenious
Nice job young man it's better than a grinder I like that idea
I want to buy that blade from you
Just look for an old plow coulter and cut a section out of it
Can’t find 1. Why you quiet videos
Will an old axe head work ?
It may, but I believe it would be a lot more work because it was too thick. I guess you could grind it down so it was more narrow, then it would work for certain
I really like this idea but I would build a wooden device with a gap to be able to use both hands
SUPER
Hmmm would a hf press push that threw the same ?
what is the name of the tool you made kind so i can buy it.
do you have any hints for opening the compressors cases?
The rotatory ones I cut open on a lathe or a band-saw and the other ones I just cut open with a cut-off wheel, on an angle grinder
Compressor motors are the easiest to clean by far. I basically pull them out bare handed
Those winding can simply be cut at one end and pulled out on the other. Really no need to hack it in half to extract
Nice lets see your great demonstration video...
Obviously you haven't scrapped a whole lot... "and pulled out"........yeah
@@dawnpeterson3215 obviously I have if I know it's easy to remove. Hold L
@@dawnpeterson3215 noob life
I’ve used bolt cutters and pulled through the other end as well. It works great.
I just pull the windings on one end up a little, cut through with a cable cutter and pull them through with a long screwdriver
Already made a video of that....
give it a few taps to get it seated, then wind it in with the vice and save all that hammering
Vice wouldn't open that wide......
How u take stator from its housing ( motor shell/cylinder) thanks
usually drive them out with a punch
I can't see this method working on a dry electric motor though.
Why not use a press to push the ax style wedge
Didn't have one and I was demonstrating that you can use limited tools to achieve the goal.
become a plumber and you wont bother doing this hahahaha
Shit runs down hill and payday is Thursday.
@@Vicsonvee 🤣
I like
I make that nex time 👍
Yep, try it for yourself.
Get all done the you'll find your bar
I found it finally after I realized someone barrowed it
@@Vicsonvee Those inconsiderate bastids! How dare they. They knew you needed it, and asked for it anyway. The nerve of some people...
Axe chisel...yep like
ok so how many of us have this tool. lol so what else can we use? thx
If you are scrapping metals I'm sure you'll come across a thin piece of spring steel you can make one of these out of.
What about a splitting wedge?
So you want a ram and motor in a press some say
LIMMMMMMMMMMMMIITTTTTTTEEEDDD TOOOOOOOLLLLSSSS my dude... See the title for full elaboration. If I had a press, it'd be in a press
the best way to strip down copper windings
I'm surprised you don't cut all that plastic and string off and your yard consider it clean , I clean everything off before it goes in a pail ..
Why bother, they give you the same price and really it's a little more weight. All motor windings are varnished copper and it's grade 2
Yeah my yard don't care about a little plastic and string. I'll take the loose plastic and string out but not sitting there cutting string to loose weight. It's clean #2 no matter
One observation - that work area is an utter disorganized mess. As a contractor in business for over 35 years my work area would never have looked like his. The more clutter, the more disorganized, the greater the chance of getting injured.
Well sir, I'm so appreciative that you are very observant. I'm happy for you and that is quite wonderful that you have such a clean workspace. You know I bet it's nearly as clean as the content you produce over on your youtube channel.. I mean really, I enjoyed watching what you have on it. I am however just a little confused as to how mishitting that cutter with my hammer would have to do with tidiness of my workspace... I mean one might just say that was bound to happen regardless... Hmmmmmm? Well I hope in the future I learn a little lesson from you and your most caring comment here. I really love such feedback..
@Vicsonvee is that your mama dukes incognito busting your chops or what?😮
That blue jug in the background does not look happy.
It's really angry
dude get to the point my god telling the life story on a piece of steal lol
O should have spoke longer, aye? Hahahaha, easy now big guy
People who are not familiar with being in front of a camera tend to drone on, but I’m sure his technique will get better!
Vicsonvee, weld a bar/pipe the hold the disc in place and then you won’t hit your hand! Well done!
Sometimes showing you what doesn't work is the real lesson
It worked wonderfully, it was just I slipped on the first swing. You know how that is. I mean you are welcome to try this method for yourself. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Some folks call it a Sling Blade.
