Regarding the Damon and Elena situation, she does trust Damon and his feelings. He is just so impulsive that she wanted him to be 100% sure of his decision. Also, I think you’re being a bit unfair to Caroline. She is grieving the loss of her mother and doesn’t think she can handle the emotional upheaval of a new relationship. She also never asked Stefan to wait for her.
I'm sorry but Elena "not trusting" Damon's judgment is a very poor interpretation. Damon is known to be impulsive even with all the growth. He loves her so much he would do anything for her, and becoming human is not something he can reverse if he regrets it. Elena understands it because she knows him through and through, so of course she didn't just let him make that decision lightly. It didn't take her too long whatsoever. It makes sense it has to be a decision he is fully committed to and understands the consequences. To say that she "shouldn't be with him because she doesn't trust him" is a ridiculous statement because you can trust your partner and still be worried they're not fully understanding of what they're actually doing. Damon blossomed as a vampire compared to when he was human, he'd been a vampire for over 100 years, reverting back to being human would mean adjustments he might not have considered and Elena is too grounded to just let them get carried away with just the love they have. You don't live off of love, so much more goes into a relationship.
Everybody ditches on Stefan for what he did to Damon here, but he was just being realistic. I can not see Damon as a happy human, he always loved to be a vampire and his personality, his habit ever since the first season is to react violently when things don't go his way. He does not deal well with frustration. He's the kind of person who does whatever he wants regardless of the consequences.

Damon has been around much longer than Elena has. He has more demons he has to tear down before he can find the light, Elena has. Damon has been through torture, and living through the 1800s and he has seen more death than Elena. No wonder her taking the cure comes easily and quickly.

Bonnie's actions helped awaken and solidify the real Kai. It gave him the push he needed. He was stronger than Luke. He defeated him after all
