Might not be bad for us to lose the tequila… But definitely save the bats 🦇 💞

In tequila making, the agave plant is harvested before it flowers. The agave stores sugars and energy inside the heart of the plant before the long bloom stalk shoots upwards. That's when it is harvested.
Farmers are able to plant thousands of agaves in their fields due to the prolific "pupping" nature of agave. The plant will send offshoots of the next generation around the base and it's rooting zone. Farmers pull off the younger plants and plant them individually to grow more.
Sure, the bats will aid in the pollination of wild Agaves and Yuccass, which, in turn, allows them to seed. But I don't believe the farmers are relying on the bats as much.

Hi, everything you've said is true. But the problem with that form of propagation you correctly said farmers are primarily using is that it limits the genetic diversity of the resulting agave crop, which is not ideal. Best bet is to support brands that support bats.

Humans need all species for life. All species have no need for humans.

@gerardovaldesdiaz3459 These are 'specialist bats'. Sounds like they've adapted to Agave plants in this region as a source of nectar, doing their pollination work as they sup. At a guess I would say there are probably thousands of varieties of bats on the planet. Like birds, frogs and lizards - they've adapted to their own unique climate and environmental conditions.
