Assured just installed hurricane shutters on my house today, I went looking for maintenance videos, image the surprise when I found there video. Thanks for the good information and better customer service.
Thanks for this video! I'm in South Florida and my shutters were not closing properly so I watched your video and last weekend I got silicone spray and did everything you said. I'm alone so I have to figure this stuff out myself. lol. They are working fine now, thank God, because I had to use them today to shutter up for Hurricane Matthew. Relieved and glad to have found your video. :)
Shutters are great. Just made it through hurricane Ian. But now I have a lock that won't unlock. The key doesn't go in. All the other locks unlocked easily, but this one does not. I tried banging the side of the lock sightly with a hammer, wd 40, and countless in and out with the key, but doesn't seem to go in all the way. Any ideas how to fix?
I do all that you suggest, yet there are times where some shutters don't fit properly into the groove of the opposite side(even after spraying), making it difficult to lock the shutters. What then?
Most of the straps that secure my shutters when not in use have rotted and ripped. I see replacement straps for sale, but cannot see how they are installed as mine look as though they were attached to the shutters themselves. Any information would be appreciated.
I have a condo on the 12th floor. I can do my balcony shutters no problem but my bedroom shutters are out of reach..How do I get to lubricate and clean them?
some of my thumb screws in my locking pins have seized up and I can't unscrew them. Do I have to remove the panels to repair them? I have put Silicone grease in the wholes but should I store the thumb screws in the house and put them in the shutters before a storm?
Mine are definitely not this well maintained. I will lubricate tops for next year. You might want to encourage people to carry wasp spray with them. I have at least one nest in every single shutter, each year. Would you consider making a video on how to replace the handle locks? The kind that you turn down a handle and hook comes down? Previous owner had bought some replacements, but I can't figure out how to take off the old one or install the new one with the rivet with a bolt....
You only lubricated half of the vertical bars. The back ones closest to the window. There are a whole set of bars on the front of the shutters that you didn't even address, let alone spray.

Thank you. How often do you preform this maintenance? Do you advise covering the lock cylinder with a rubber chair cap?
I like this guy. Wonder if they're still in business. I need new locks on my hurricane shutters.

Should the silicon lubricant also be used for the locking pins?
Excellent video, Mr. Sangiorgio!!
Question: Should be lubricating these units? They were installed a month ago.

I ended up drilling a hole in them and using a screw to keep them locked during hurricane Irma.

He has another video showing how to put it back on track! I followed his advice and it worked .

How do I replace the wheels on top of the track
if the tracks are clean of debris you may need some repair work

Always leave locks open in case you lose the keys and need to deploy your shutter for a storm.
