Legend. I think that there are a lot of regular folks who end up working at DWP who, like some healthcare workers, develop "moral injury" and burn out. The high-ups at DWP do some right nonsense to claimants but it's people manning the phones, and in job centres, who have to hear stories of desperation but may have no power to do anything to help.
All anyone can do is try their best. The Tories are primarily responsible for the current disaster that is the DWP, as well as finally destroying the NHS. The Tories are Olympic level at making the public forget the Tories are the enemy, and goading people to turn on each other. They've wasted over half a trillion pounds on projects that then got cancelled or didn't work as well as the most blatant thievery and fraud. You are so right. DWP think it is their money. Tories think it is their money. I worked as a university lecturer for 19 years when my career was cut short by a series of chronic illnesses. £299 a month for contribution based ESA was the safety net. The WCA came the week after cESA stopped.
For anyone not aware of this resource then look up Benefits and Work. They have a lot of info and guides to PIP, UC, DLA & ESA - the most detailed ones, including PIP training, are for members but there's a discount so it costs just under 20 quid for a year. They also have a newsletter. You can join for one year and download everything for the future.

I was made bedbound after 30 years paying high taxes. I became disabled after 5 failed spinal surgery's and am now immobile. I can hardly live of the money I receive. I had my payments threatened when I could not attend a disabilities interview. The interview was on a building's 1st floor and the office had no lift or disabled access. To leave my home I have to go via stretcher so there was no way I could attend. I only kept my payment after help from a local MP. I was treated like dirt through the entire process and still am most of the time.

They privatise as much as possible because they can extract more money from the masses from private companies, skim more off the top, take more back handers than they already are, it's just greed on an unbelievable level, its sickening. The governments all around the world are the worst corrupt criminal entities going. Capitalism does not serve the worlds people, it serves less than 1% of the planets citizens. Thank you so much for talking about this! I applied for pip 7 years ago for chronic illness and I was also extremely mentally unwell, suicidal and went for my assessment. I told them everything openly and honestly, that I felt very suicidal and could hardly function physically. I was naive and thought if I tell the truth I will get help. The report after the assessment that I received back was full of lies, they said I appeared physically fine and mentally okay. I was denied any financial help. I questioned myself and whether I had been clear enough with them in my assessment?! I was completely gas lighted and made to be a liar, a scammer when I was literally in crisis mode. Any trained person would of seen that. I took it to appeal and had to go to court which was so traumatic. I was finally awarded the lowest Universal credit allowance and no pip. I literally have ptsd from the whole thing! An awful system. It was totally inhumane. I am grateful for my strength to go to appeal but it was one of the hardest things I had to do.

You’re not alone here, I had exactly same experience back in 2018. I had to give up on work because of a stroke, job centre sent me for Pip assessment and they gave me 0 points.
I have anxiety, depression, ptsd and Ibs.
I also have memory, concentration problems and balance issues.
I went to citizen advice, and took Universal Credit to Tribunal, I won.
I didn’t get any money from Pip either, only extra payment from Universal Credit of £336, for not able to work.
Last year I had mini-stroke, I’m terrified to be honest because I am a single mum of 3, age 11, 13 and 15.
My entire family lives abroad, I feel scammed.

I had a similar experience, applied for PIP payments after being denied a spot on the housing list as I was "making myself homeless" trying to escape from black mould that has absolutely ruined my lungs. A pip claim could've pushed my income to just enough for an estate agency to consider me for rent for somewhere, even with me working full time, not even minimum wage (how tf does someone do this shit on minimum wage?!) Anyway they got back to me and essentially gas lit Mr into thinking that actually all my daily struggles with OCD are not actually that bad and actually I shouldn't have even bothered calling. How tf can someone who has never met me say that it's a 2 out of 10 on how much one of the world's most cripling disorders effects my life, one that has litterally stopped me eatting, cleaning and effectively looking after myself. It's all madness, I didn't want to go down the route to begin with, but being forced to and then getting that response really hurt :,)

I thought I was there to help people but NO.....I was there to close or dispute as many claims as possible. There were weekly targets and if you didn't meet them you were hauled in front of your manager and asked to account for yourself. The DWP doesn’t even tell you that you can get PIP assessments recorded over the phone if it takes place that way.
Nobody is really told this as they can’t lie on the call, as it’s easier to prove in court that they lied. As a disabled person who’s had to fight the DWP on many different occasions, I know they lie on a daily basis to make benefits as complicated as possible.
Manchesters application for housing benefits is 60 odd questions long and asks the same question twice to catch you out, asking it in a slightly different way to catch you out.

Thing is that the world is full of people like you described, and then such people corrupt smart people. We can't be blaming everything on "the rich", or others in general. Everything that happens is a reflection of society at large. Of shallow thinking. And, honestly, selfishness. The world is overpopulated, but people are still having kids like crazy. What for? Because they're egocentric.

I am a full time wheelchair user, on oxygen and have a limited life. My wife is my full time carer. They also struggle with chronic illness and severe depression and anxiety among other things. They had their PIP stopped because they are my full time carer. The assessor said that they can't have all these physical and mental health conditions I they can care for me. They bulls hitted throughout the whole report saying "this was done during the video assessment and that was done etc, etc". What the assessor didn't know was that I covertly recorded the assessment. I sent the video to the judge for the tribunal. Thankfully we got their pip back but we still went through hell. Having to live on benefits is not fun nor easy. Weve not been able to have heating for the last 5 years. We live in our bedroom because it's warmer under the duvet. We have breakfast and sometimes an evening meal but this food comes from the food bank and our local church. It's hard. It makes life not worth living. Damn if we could work, believe me we would. I was in the middle of training to become a paramedic until I got sick. It sucks living like this and yet our neighbours claim all benefits available and are working. People have reported them and yet they've been given no punishment. They just moved into a brand new house, bought a brand new motorbike, bout a chameleon, go on multiple holidays a year etc etc and it's s.h.i.t. the system is broken

By the time my claim was processed, I was two months into rent arrears, and was struggling to afford to go to job interviews.
I found and started a new job a couple of weeks after my claim was processed, I informed them I was signing off, and spent the next 6 months getting letters about getting sanctioned for not showing up to appointments that don't exist, for a claim that wasn't even active.

It seems so many of us have had the same or similar experiences which is so horrific to think about all the people who went months/years struggling while waiting to appeal.
The assessor pretty much lied the whole way through, totally misrepresented what actually happened and said that I appeared “chatty”, I just told them the truth about my condition which was necessary, they did a bare minimum physical assessment and because I’m ‘able bodied’ (with chronic fatigue and an autoimmune condition which is very temperamental) I don’t need the help and can work, even though I had dropped out of college due to my long hospital stays meaning I physically couldn’t sit my exams.
I spent over a year appealing and eventually they changed their mind when I came back with stacks of evidence and a letter from my neurologist and GP, it did take them months to finally get back to me to confirm they were wrong though. Every time my renewal comes round it makes me sick for weeks, knowing I might have to go through all that again

@@VictorLugosi You're very right. After a car accident, arthritis and skin cancer diagnosis in the space of 2 months, I was bed bound, in and out of hospital, and couldn't even wipe my own you know what. It took me 9 months, a tribunal and hell on earth to get my entitlements. Agents kept ignoring my messages asking for paperwork to fill out LCWRA forms etc. All documented in the journal system and recorded phone calls. There were 3 agents that kept putting in copy and paste replies that had no relevance to what I was saying. I ended up hospitalised from starvation, dropping from 13 stone as a 6ft man, to a mere 8 stone. I was a corpse. After I started to recover is when I took it to tribunal. Manager ended up getting fired and the entire centre had to go through training again. I also never had to communicate with them again for my entitlements because of what they put me through. Half of them don't read messages or listen on the phone, management are literally corrupt and I have written confirmation of that and the complaints department held my complaint for 5 months (illegal), they had to respond in 20 days or so legally. They done so to protect the manager in the hopes I'd just give up. So then the complaints department got taken through the tribunal as well. So I ended up beating and getting my entitlements, and getting people fired, from job center and the complaints department. in fact, I don't think I spoke to a single person that I couldn't do a better job than myself.

Spot on video mate. A few years ago I worked on behalf of the DWP for an outsourced company working outbound calls for universal credit. We had to go through eligibility questions and they would set targets as to how many people were not eligible to claim and how many claims that were rejected. Thank you for exposing these horrible humans. I worked in a call centre in Kirkby for Universal Credit on the enquiry line. That line exists to fob people off exactly like you said, not being allowed to tell claimants the truth of their claim. I didn’t agree with the system and was ready to walk out of my training when I realised how bad it was going to be. I thought I will give it a go because I needed a job, I was in the role 3 and half weeks from grad bay and just in that time, I was taking suicide at least 2-3 suicide calls per day because people had been sanctioned or not received their money. It's not as if you're signing in every two weeks at your local job centre.
My State Pension gets paid into my bank each month. And I don't know of any rule that says you must tell them when you go away. I went away twice last Summer on holiday (not abroad) and it didn't even cross my mind to inform the DWP.

Thank you so much for your video. I was a victim of the Dwp universal credit scheme. I was on esa and getting nearly £300 a fortnight. I have a back injury due to an accident at work in 1990 and had to go onto benefits. But I had to have another medical and I was in agony and could hardly walk due to the long wait in the benefits waiting room, I had my interview and went home. I got a letter saying I had failed my medical and the letter was full of lies listing things I was never asked about. They put me on universal credit of £475.00 a month. I’m struggling to live now, I’ve never been so skint in my life and need to borrow money off family members if I need anything. I just feel like I’m a gold digger and a scrounger. I’m fed up. I’m so proud of you for exposing this rip off scheme and the con artists behind it. Well done.

I was homeless on the streets for 4 years and I had to beg on the street to survive. I now have a flat which they are only giving me 'shared room rate' because I'm under 35. My rent is 650 and I owe the deposit to my landlord too. I'm surviving off £200 per month right now but I don't want to be on the street again as my property has all the stuff in that my dad owned before he passed away. So I will pay this rent before I eat. I have mental health problems so can't stay in a shared house due to extreme anxiety and borderline personality disorder. I just want to live in my home and be able to survive month to month while I get help off the mental health team. One day when I'm better I would like to work.

@@Wearethewingmakers hi. When I had my neck slashed with a knife on a night out this effected my life in such a way. I didn't go out of the house again. I was living with my parents at the time. There was no help offered to me to cope with my anxiety and not wanting to be sociable anymore. Jobcentre still wanted me to do this go there etc. But when an animal shelter work experience came up, I was offered to go. Working with animals changed my life and somewhat saved me. My confidence grew and I worked with caring people. Shortly after I was offered full time employment and although I could do the job, I still had so much to learn and yes I did bottle it not trusting in my own self worth and ability but there was that voice in me that said, go for it, what have you got to lose and you are getting better. I went on to being the manager in years to come till it's closure in covid lock down. Since then I've done live events as a steward at football, basketnall, rugby, breakdancing, festivals and the rest. It wasn't regular work but loved it, went travelling and the best thing is you can pick up the shifts you want if available. I then did my sia with them and got to do raves in Manchester.
I left that role as the work was only casual and today Im part of the NHS in the renal dialysis team which is very rewarding.
Things can change and with a bit of look, you can be some place you like in 10 years from now.
