  • For many Londoners who were made homeless during bombings of WWII, an estate in Slough became home.
    People first started to move to the Britwell Estate sixty years ago. One of them was former Home Secretary, Alan Johnson.
    He's one of a few, that have been sharing their memories, as Caroline Davies reports.

    In 1969, I was sent to the Britwell Hostel, on Doddsfield Road, next door to the Britwell Ex Working Mans Club . . Yeah, it was said that every prison in Britain had someone from the Britwell Estate . . .

      @@Ali-xz3ym I lived in Slough the first 12 years of my life. I'm 16 now and I can confirm britwell was the shithole of Slough and also I can't forget chalvey. Both bombsites full of dicks and violence im glad I live out of Slough now
