So you know I moved in like 2months + ago, and the balcony was something I definitely had to do. I So here Ima show you guys what I did to spruce it up, enjoy the balcony transformation!!

I love this! Most balcony makeovers I find are for massive balconies which they can just put whatever they want, yours is the best video I have found for ideas on an actual small balcony!

I loved this apartment, but I already moved. I was also on the lower range of how high the building went (26 floors) if I remember correctly.

Awesome! Love it! Was planning to put artificial turf in my balcony but this video gave me much better idea. Thanks a lot! Can you suggest how to manage the drainage? My balcony floor has tiles. Can I simply use this or do I need to do something about drainage? Any suggestions pls :)
You'll probably need a nonslip material underneath that has holes in order to air dry. But with tiles it might be a little tricky as it could Harbour mold. Can't think of anything else.

It's cute, but just a warning...These loose stones may fall off the balcony. If it hits someone on the head it can kill.
Great perspective. However, I was not on a high floor should a fallen stone reach a high velocity to hurt someone. Plus, the stones were a few inches away from the edge and i did not see any stones close to the edge throughout all four seasons including heavy rains and snow.

looks great. how does it handle rain? I imagine the rain will be trapped under the rubber pieces
It actually doesn't. Dries normally and doesn't leave any residue of being wet. I've posted an update video that is linked in this video.
Great ideas. I wonder if you could put one set of flooring in the middle and the other set a border. I would think the grass is nicer to walk on than the wood tile so make the wood the border. I found this video because I am trying to do faux grass around my pool. The pool deck guy said to put concrete aggregate in would be $10,000!!! Then I have to get money to re-do the pool. I am guessing my Covid mask would also be good to hold up a bank!
You can design it however you'd like to.

Hi, i think you've done a great job with the tile deck and grass placement. Do the tiles move/slide when you walk on them? Do they have enough grip to the floor beneath?
They do not move. Since it's concrete under them that wasn't too smooth and had enough grip to the ground.

Hi, I’m currently doing a similar project and having a difficult time making the pieces click together. Was it fairly easy for you?
It took time to figure it out but it's gets easier the more you do them.
Brilliant DIY. My balcony is the same, I am just worried about the deckings will slip out from the gap to downstairs
Not sure what exactly you mean but the decks stay connected to each other. It's hard to separate them.
Alvina B Thank you very much for your quick reply. What I mean is once it is connected, will it move to the edge of floor like normal rug or it sticks to the floor tightly.?
It depends on the texture of the floor. Mine didn't slip under concrete. It may slip on tiles, but a quick fix maybe to secure a carpet or rug or one of those non-slip covers, then lay the decking over it.

WOW this look awesome! This inspired me to do a similar thing on my balkony. Can you still see the individual tiles in the grass section after these few months or do the lines disappear with time?
In some areas it blends in seamlessly. I'll be doing an update hopefully really soon.

After it rains , How do you clean your balcony ? Do you need to remove every tiles off and clean underneath ? cos I am worried about water stagnating underneath the tiles .Many Thanks
Since it's concrete underneath and not enclosed tiles (spaces) it dries on it's own. I think I'll do an update video on this to answer all the questions. Look out for that soon.

I think it's still doable but maybe you need to place a carpet on the tile and then placing the runnen tiles, so to prevent slipping when it gets wet. That would be a bad accident.
My balcony is Soo long it's like 19Ft by 3.5 it's so wierd 🤣this is a good idea love it 😊

Can't link them as they were made from Mason jars and solar lights I got from Canadian tire.

Right! It's been almost 2 years and this video just blowing up lol. It did pretty good. I did move but still have the decks to reuse them. They are great condition after going through all 4 seasons.

It's really like a puzzle piece just have to look at the connecting sides.

I don't recall from the top of my head but I did state it in the video.
Just googled "Runnen grass Ikea" to see what this precisely is and... I want to do this INDOORS, as in, using this instead of a carpet! I want to wake up in my room the first thing that I do is get up and touch grass with my bare feet, it's gotta feel amazing even if it's fake. 😭

Really nice. I'd love an update. How do you clean it from dust and rain?
I already moved but did record some clips to do an update. However, I simply swept the tiles for cleaning. Nothing too drastic and they held up the whole year.

When I moved, it was just a new building, so the rent was cheaper. I called back the other day when looking for an apartment, it went up $300 more for the same one bedroom apartment. Ridiculous!! Saved the tiles for my next apartment.
It's beautiful.but what about heavy rains ?
Everything stayed put. No fallen stones and it naturally dried after the rain and snow. So no water settled.

Actually no. It's been through 4 seasons and still in great condition. I'll do an update video soon

No, they are not adhesive tiles. They attach a d can be removed like puzzle pieces.

U did amazing job..y balcony is triple than it's so not sure how many I need.
Thanks. Just measure your balcony and do the math to see how many tiles will cover it. You can also cut them to size. I didn't have the instrument to do so, so I just incorporated using stones in the spaces.
