Thanks, psparkesproductions - you were indeed lucky to know Larry Adler, an all-round entertainer who, for about 70 years, seems to have encountered practically everybody in showbiz and high society, from Ravel and Al Capone to Kate Bush and the Queen Mother. His autobiography "Me and My Big Mouth" is highly recommended. There are so many anecdotes about famous folk that the original title was "Namedrops Keep Falling On My Head"!
Has anyone seen or heard Larry Adler playing Slaughter on 10th Avenue? I have been searching for years. There was a Columbia vinyl record of this but I never was able to find it again after I was a kid. Maybe it wan't Larry Adler, but it was played with Harmonica along with a full orchestra. Help!
there is a wonderful autobiography from larry called "it ain't neccessarily so". great read, it tells a lot about his adventures. he was something, man. look for the book, its out there.
Thanks for the "heads up" ! I bet the book is a pip....Mr Adler comes across in interviews as quite articulate, intelligent, funny & witty. Appreciate your comment ! :-)
"gotten into a lot of trouble with my curiosity about things" - Larry's last remark here and should have been followed up on - but o what brilliant playing - the most real Gershwin one ever hears, period - on harmonica, played by this one gentleman (and now I would say the same for his piano voicings! gorgeous)
I was at Larry Adler’s last televised performance at the Pop Factory in Porth in the Rhondda Valley in Wales UK. I think to sum up Larry Adler “Arrogant but genius”. If you would like to hear me play try:- Ashokan Farewell Derek Plays Harmonica Or:- "Hello" Derek Plays Harmonica with the John Martin Duo in Cardiff Wales 7th July 2010.wmv Or visit my web site at harmonicashow.co.uk Derek

Response to James Hartas: they play different kind of music. You forget
when it was a homage to Gershwin, Stevie Wonder coundn´t play Rhapsody in Blue
