Sebring 2.4L Battery and Alternator Replace
All of this works for the 2008 Avenger as well. Just did one a couple of days ago. But I loosened the radiator fans and moved them up to get room to slide the alt out by the A/C hose and down the bottom. Didn't bring my jack with me and didn't feel like yanking the tires off. Sucks doing it in 100* weather in direct sunlight but it got done.
I liked the music at the end. It was silky smooth.
I love your videos. Always a pleasure watching and learning from them. Have a nice day.
Dude I know this video is old but you made this super easy to do, thanks man!
Hello. Wanted to Thank You. With your help it took me an hour and a half to take out and an hour to re-install. Thank You.
My wife had one of these as a fleet car for work.drove it for a couple of years. When I found out the battery was stuffed in the fender I lost all interest in ever buying a Chrysler car.
Really? wow
About to tackle this job on my back. Both lifts at my work are tied up so let's see how this goes!
Found your channel thanks to JerryRigEverything and I'm glad I bothered to check it out because wow.. your channel is a goldmine of information! I've subscribed for the contents and not because of the recommendation. Keep up the good work, Brian.
Just another reason to not buy a Chrysler. And don't get me started on there mini vans. Whenever you need something repaired they tell you that the repair will cost more than the van is worth. And that alternator will come out after you buy one of those garage lifts for your house
Thanks again, always like watching your videos. Your videos are very well made and entertaining. Also love it when you include a link to Amazon making it super easy to buy new tools and supplies.
This video very helpful .. will give you a shout out when my car is fixed and running again ...thank you bud !!!!
This video taught me to never buy a Chrysler.
Occasionally working on them teaches me the same thing.
Dude, I drive two of them! HA! One is great for repair videos and threading dirt roads, and the other is a towing BEAST!
briansmobile1
You talk about them as if they are trouble, but also that they focus on it looking good and feeling good on the road.
I do realize you have two. I've considered that you have a thick skin or you have been drawn in by their driving charms. :)
Thanks for the stickers- just got them today!
I call it like it I see it. I'm not a "fan boy," but I'm not going to vilify an automaker either. I've been working on cars for decades. In addition I work on EVERYTHING- not just one or two brands. If I buy something, there's some reasoning behind it. The question you have to ask is was my decision based on ethos, logos, or pathos? Or by any of those three from my wife? ; )
briansmobile1 I'm glad you checked your mail.
Hey, like my buddy told me the other day when I was complaining about my Nissan. Every make has issues.
Thanks for Helping Jerry
Brian, some of those Chryslers have OAD/one way drive pulleys on the alternator. That looks like one of them. They frequently go bad and or deteriorate in function to where they will work but slip or not engage properly. I've see a bunch between 60-100k mark bad. This is considered a wear item and should be replaced around 100k.
Ugh all I could think about with you skiing around all those trees are tree wells! Made me nervous! Great video!! Ya I just had my alternator replaced a few months ago and already I need to get that one replaced!
i have a 08 2.4 sebring.alternator test good.battery light stay on.when i crank it, then take positive of engine dies.
I love the information that you guys give us I have a 1992 Mazda Protege DX model I would like to get some information on the engine and air condition and electrical system on a car.
You can get wire diagrams here: revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd Air conditioning would be R12 and would need retrofitting if it hasn't been done or leaked out. As for engines, Mazda had many engines for the Protege so I really couldn't tell you much and I don't have experience with them. The VIN would tell you what engine it came with though.
Best serpentine explanation!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Glad it was helpful!
Great Chrysler engineering right there!
Do you know the name of that black flap piece that you have to take off to get to the battery? I need to replace the clips for it but I'm not sure what to search for. Any help is appreciated
2010 Fiat-Chrysler with battery in retarded place and alternator fail. Now this is why my 2001 Chevy still has it's original alternator, working perfectly. And I can service the battery by simply lifting the hood.
Ono Udont
Are you pulling the alternator out through the passenger side wheel well?
Affirmative
Thank you for motivating Zach from Jerryrigeverything.
What's a good price to charge for replacing it? labor only
Great presentation, helped me 150 %,Thank You So Much
So Brian, I've been told countless different things about hooking/unhooking a battery. I've been told to hook/unhook the positive first. From what you said in the beginning of the video leads me to believe you think this is wrong. I'm wondering why it is wrong/what could happen if you take the positive off first before the negative. Thanks in advance for a response, love the vids and keep em comin! Much love from Ontario Canada, you've saved me countless amounts of time, money, and heartache.
You have the possibility of shorting out your wrench/ratchet on a grounded surface taking the positive off first. Same reason you connect the negative last, if you connect the positive last you could also short out your wrench/ratchet. If it's possible, always unhook the negative first then the positive, then when reconnecting, connect the positive first then the negative last.
Thanks, that makes sense.
New Chrysler model battery in the trunk easy to get to they should've thought about when they made this one
You didn't say how much the alternator is suppose to put out; 16 amps. instead of 14.5 amps. If a person is safe under the car how do you caution for properly working on this alternator safely. Thanks for showing me the belt routing and the size of the sockets. I don't like working under this car and will have to raise it and put jack stands under it . . . with good lighting in a dry environment I should be able to replace the alternator. . . after checking the belt and the pulley for wear. . . and first charging or replacing the battery which will not take a charge. . . to avoid damaging the new alternator.
Always a first rate vid buddy, oh ya can't wait for the snow . Cheers...
Are you still suffering the heat?
DE Nichols nope have the wood stove on now.
STEVE ROB I'm even hotter than when we last discussed this. Lol
The design of the battery would have to go before a panel to get the ok to fit it there.
The people that ok'd the battery to go in such a stupid place must be dumber than the designer ?...
The mind boggles.
Nice job Brian
Brian small tip i do when removing alternator live cables,i cut a small length of rubber hose (4 to 6 inches)and put the live terminal inside the hose,it always stays in place to protect from shorting out.
Tam, I LOVE that idea! As I was looking at this battery spot I just kept thinking, so, if you pull out of a blind corner slowly into traffic, and somebody hits you, that live battery is going to take the brunt of that impact. Those little valence electrons (pixies) are going to go absolutely CRAZY on each other! What a mess! How would that not light right on fire with all the freshly mangled substructure it would be driven into?
Always informative videos with great information great job !
Hey Brian, really wanted to contribute to the plates but in NYC they are very hard to come by plus I see you already got a few however my great friend in Iowa just informed that he has a spare plate which is going straight to you.
Thanks Papa Gleb!
hyundais have a slotted alternator mount like that too
where is the ground strap on these cars i have. Chrysler 200 and i have a wire disconnected the wire is close to the power steering where u put the liquid idk if thats causing the battery light to turn i put a new battery plz help
It's funny that you say "sorry to sound like i'm complaining about two things....". I complain about chrysler as a whole! There's always something.... excellent vehicle. I used to pout all day if i knew i had a crusty chrysler coming in.
I've put a TON of thought into it and best I can figure is they are THE MACK DADDY KING!!... of afterthought engineering. I think their process goes something like this.....
1. Cool body design comes first.
2. Numbers- horse power, passengers, whatever the market wants.
3. Make 1 and 2 work somehow. Make it test drive well by working out the center of mass etc. (basically get the test drive numbers to work.
4. Find a place to put the battery, HVAC system, starter, and everything else that you forgot to plan while chasing down the esthetics and the test drive numbers.
Lmao, that sounds about right. Mays well rotate the tires while you service the battery. I can't tell you how many crank sensors i've done across the board on them. I guess they think that hiding everything is more money in their pocket on labor time. I don't mind the cue they took from BMW with the charging lugs under the hood, but at least the battery is accessible (if the trunk is clear) on a BMW. I have to say though, the two chryslers i've liked some ideas on were the dakotas with the wheel bearing, not the bolt on GM type, but the one where you remove the axle nut and just slide it right on (or that's how i remember it...) and as well on a town and country, getting to the plugs and injectors really isn't that much of a process. Some cars are a nightmare (ie. maxima!)
+briansmobile1 LOL.
+TheTotalMechanic Yes Maxima's are a pain for sure - well, thinking of an intake job I did.
Altima brake jobs have overly inaccessible bolts for the brakes.
Exactly what i was talking about. Having to remove the upper plenum, etc. There was an Audi i believe i worked on which i had to cut down an allen wrench just to access the rear caliper bolts. Sometimes i scratch my head in the middle of a job and wonder which desk junkie i should slap for engineering such a puzzle.
I helped my neighbor replace the alt on his not because the alt went bad but bcz overdrive pulley started growling and a low miles used alt cost about the same as a new pulley for it. I couldn't get how overly complex the whole serp belt routing and all pulleys was. And then there's the asenine batt location. Oh and those damn red locks on all the electrical connectors... I hate Chrysler vehicles.
Brilliant song. Thanks for the video
That's a very - very poor place for a battery - a little fender bender on the left side - not good!!
The skiing made my legs hurt, just sitting here
is this similar to a chrysler 200? i have a 2013 chrysler 200 and i cant find a video on youtube that shows me how to change the alternator
Hey man, I literally just changed the alternator out on a 2013 Chrysler 200 and yes, it is completely identical
What an unusual place for a battery.
That pulley has a ton of run out in it!
You saw the wobble there too huh? I should have shot it with the thermal when I pulled it out after running it for about five minutes. It was on Fah-YIE-YERRR! So stinking hot!
Not really interested in skiing and never skied either, even though I do live in Colorado, Though I like sledding and tubing.
I work for a fleet of car rentals that 2.4 on the 200 is junk but seems to do just fine on a dart for some reason
Interesting- I wonder if it's easier to cool or the reduction in mass makes it better, or if it's a pride of ownership and better maintenance that factors into that?
+briansmobile1 I have made some of those questions myself but the 2.4 on your video is currently used like on the jeep patriots vs de ones I'm talking about takes 6 qts of syn. oil
Hola por qué ponen la batería del carro ahí junto ala rueda delantera. Si es lo más básico esuy latoso andar quitando la batería o pasar corriente a estos autos.
Luvin' the tune and video at the end. :)

What a stupid design from Chrysler no protection for the battery whatsoever nice job Chrysler I'm surprise those cars haven't gone up in flames!!!!Good video like always love all your explanation of everything keep up the good work..
