Yes David, reviews of discontinued pens are more than welcome as they add to the temptation. They would be available either on the grey market or in some pen brick and mortar shop that may not have them online.
Sailor feedback is very pleasant, it adds to the pleasure of writing. Spectacular nibs.

you were at Yoseka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is just wonderful? I live outside Boston, but my office is in NY and i visit as much as I can when in town. Daisy, her husband and staff are just amazing. It is my favorite stationary store. Truly passionate people, who's love for the hobby is infectious.

david do make some videos on the pens that we cannot obtain. For example, many montblanc pens especially there special editions & namikis are great to look, but some of their price is quite expensive, many of us cant buy but we do respect & enjoy watching the creativity & art of the pen

Here's another vote for the Omas 360! It's a grail of mine as well, and I'd love to learn more about it. Even if it weren't a grail, it's always interesting to learn about uncommon pens even if they aren't on the modern market. I'm sure many viewers would agree.

Yes David, by all means do reviews on rare pens! It will add something new for followers to enjoy, and perhaps encourage them to hunt down. They would be fascinating even if one cannot get the pens in question.

Nice review. I have the same pen which I picked up in Japan. I agree that it checks my boxes, although I could go for a less flashy band. I’ve dreamed of visiting Yoseka someday. Seems like such cool people and shop. Aloha

A Padres and Pens road trip! Perfect plan. And I hope NBC decided to offer you a time slot to talk about pens and ink.
Yoseka is on my list of pen stores I’d like to visit. I love the little notes the staff included with orders.
That’s a beautiful pen. It’s nice to hear that you’re enjoying it too much to put it away.
I’m another person who votes for reviewing the OMAS. The story of pens Is as interesting as knowing what’s available to buy and you make history interesting.

Regardless of whether a pen is discontinued or not, some pens have such a unique shape, nib or filling system, they are definitely worth reviewing.
Sometimes it’s worth going into extra yards for a quality pen,if it provides lasting enjoyment.

I absolutely love Sailor pens, mainly their nibs are amazing. I have owned many different models, and I did have a pro gear but had to sell it. My biggest gripe is their pens are made for small hands. They are so short, the end of the pen hits the web of my hand and is like writing with a child’s size pen. I would buy way more Sailor pens if they just made them longer; I hate short pens. If only someone made a 1 inch threaded extension for lengthening it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Come on Sailor, start making pens for people with normal sized hands. . . PLEASE!

Thanks David for sharing your experiences of your travels and for another great pen review. That Omas pen looks interesting. I would appreciate a review on discontinued pens. To anyone, in my budgetary range, many of the finer pens are out of my price range but I still like seeing them. Too expensive or discontinued both equally unobtainable. I like your style and enjoy your videos.

I’m interested in the Sailor Pro Gear, but like you, David, I’m not entirely comfortable with the premium cost. To my budget, $400 may be a price I’ll pay for a pen, but it would need to be truly exceptional. I do hope for you this pen is one uniquely exceptional instrument.

You made me smile when you talked about the sailor ink bottle. My friends have all talked about their struggles of inking from Ferris Wheel Press ink bottles - we've decided that the people who design the bottles don't actually ink pens! Please review that interesting triangular pen - looks neat. Please & Thanks!

I was torn for quite some time between the Pilot Custom 823 and the Sailor Pro gear (the gold trim anchor one). Though the Pro gear fitted very well in my hands and looked very nice, I was a little bit dissatisfied by how hard the gold nib was on the paper. Finally had to give in for the black edition of the Pilot Custom 823. Nonetheless, the Pro gear(I prefer the normal one) is a great great pen. Thanks for the lovely video👍👍

I'm all for reviews of discontinued/limited edition/prohibitively expensive (for most of us) pens. It might be disappointing to see a review of a cool pen that isn't available any more, but I have about the same chance of buying one they don't make any more as I do of buying an urushi pen with a gold paint dolphin on it that costs $3,000, so getting the chance to see either is pretty cool.

  • @freespirit995
    @freespirit995 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for an interesting video. I am trying to keep the purchase of new pens to an absolute minimum (as I have an embarrassingly large collection...) but I was recently very tempted by this new Sailor. However, in the end, I went for the Sailor 1911 Large 'Blackout' which is, I think, part of Sailor's new venture into very dark pen bodies and nibs. I strongly recommend it as a marvellous writer, and also a stunning combination of a ringless 1911 cigar shape that is completely black, with a dark ruthenium clip and a 21 gold nib also coated to very dark silver colour with ruthenium. The whole effect is absolutely stunning. I was persuaded to buy it because a local store had a large 'anniversary' discount, which made it affordable.
Your review makes me think that the next "indulgence" may well be the Imperial Black!

    David,
While your main game here isn't directly "How to..." content, you're educating us. Usually it's just something you mention in passing but it's there. Many of the things that are available are either unattainable for some of us, or simply don't spark an itch. There's no practical difference between those and things that are genuinely not available. It's still worth watching and learning though!
In my own mind, I compile all this information, continuously building imaginary "Frankenpens" to combine materials and features I like. So if I do go shopping for a pen, it's better to understand the concepts behind the designs. When some particular product gets close, I know what I'm seeing.
So in summary, count this as a vote of yes for including pens and products that aren't available.

I had one of these and recently sold it. Such a boring pen (and that is coming from someone who loves boring pens), there is nothing special or remarkable about it at all. The nib is decent, but falls short of many other gold nib pens I have. It was. I’ve to add a 21k gold nib to the collection, but after awhile that alone wasn’t enough to keep it in my collection/rotation. The pen body is small and feels very cheap, you can even see the injection mold line on the threads.
I bought this pen from Amazon Japan for $220 and I think that is right around what the pen is worth. I couldn’t imagine paying any more than that, much less $500 😂🤣

Hi David, I just want to point out a mistake in your ink swatch. Sailor Jentle Black and Sailor Kiwa-Guro (not Guru, Kiwa-Guro literally means extreme black) are 2 completely different inks. Jentle black is dye based, and Kiwa-Guro is pigmented and waterproof. So I think you have likely confused the 2 inks, and your ink swatch is for just one of them. The bottle of black ink that comes with the Imperial Black pen is likely the same as Jentle Black, but I'm not 100% certain about that.

@@testinguk_Admin.I love Sailor pens (own twelve of them). Including three KoPs.
I don’t care if the seller is big or small. All I meant was that $472 price for this pen in the U.S. is quite over-the-top extortionist. Everybody, from Sailor onwards knows it’s true. I suspect David knows it, too. And he does almost always, rightly or wrongly, justify the prices for the individual pens he reviews. Sometimes extremely expensive pens.

It's always weird to me how words like "Imperial" have just become normal adjectives nowadays. Like... Sailor is a Japanese brand started within living memory of when Japan was an imperialist state! I'm of course not saying Sailor are imperialists or that this pen is "immoral" in anyway. It's just strange to me. We'd all be weirded out if Lamy made a "Safai 'Fascist Brown shirt'" pen right? Lmao
