    Hi Alex, there are tons of questions about compound adjectives
    I think there is no specific rule that explains these compound words precisely.
    For example one day I wrote
    A hard-winning game but the teacher told me, it's wrong, they said you should write
    A hard-won game because " game" represents the object.
    Should I say: well-behaved girl or
    Well-behaving girl, here the girl represents the subject because the girl is behaving well.
    About adverbs ending with" ly"
    You used them and I saw famous newspapers using them but BBC learning English said don't use adverbs that end with " ly" in compound adjectives.
    We can use Noun-noun noun can't we? For example
    Alex-Adam theory
    We can also use this structure
    Adj or adv - noun noun for example
    Free-trade agreement.
    There are so many other questions, but I don't think you have time to answer all my questions.

      If you want to use them as compound adjectives, it's absolutely necessary. For example, "I saw a one-armed boy with his mother on the subway." If you want to simply say "one arm," you would have to say "I saw a boy with one arm on the subway."

      This is a good question, and it addresses an oversight in my video. Typically, adverbs that end in -ly do not need to be hyphenated when they are connected to an adjective, so a couple of the examples in the video don't need them either. My apologies for the error!

    • @engvidAlex
      @engvidAlex  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A mind-altering experience is neutral, but this compound adjective is typically used to talk about drugs. "Have you been taking any mind-altering drugs?" A movie or a book can be a mind-altering experience too, of course, but just keep in mind that it is typically used to discuss mood changes or heightened awareness caused by drugs.
