WP, I got a question, do u need the full set to have the back animation? or just one piece?
That's cool, shame it's out of reach for like a huge percentage of the player base. I understand raids needed something to push the player base to continue on playing them, but I know the people that would REALLY like this is the wvw'ers, as you could go from pve to wvw and swap some runes and stats and go.
I foresee less people raiding as hard to get legendary armor now that they have it, unless they are the folks that have 20 characters and want more and more sets of it as time goes on (which will become easier as more and more raid wings come out)
I've wanted more cultural flavor and roleplaying content to be added to the game for a long time (been playing since betas). Watching this reminded me again. Once they are ready to add more legendary skins, I think it would be really cool if they added new tiers to the cultural vendors. I'd like to see exotic, ascended, and legendary sets that are specially designed for each culture. This should honestly be so that you don't have to apologize for being an Asura and so that the artists can focus on what looks good for each race without having to compromise toward generic features. I would also do something very different with the acquisition method. I would like it to require core currencies with very large prices. Some kind of substantial sink for gold, karma, spirit shards, and laurels. The exotic tier of gear would be more expensive than the current T3 cultural armor and also require karma and shards to purchase. The ascended tier would require much more gold, more karma, and change the third currency to laurels. The legendary tier of armor would only require a gift to purchase. Then I would like to see the gifts that are used be culturally based as well. A "Gift of Hoelbrak", "Gift of the Black Citadel", etc. would be mystic forge items combining various rewards for cultural missions. These special mission chains would be acquired from the main cities and would culminate in a legendary heroic action taken on behalf of the rewarding city. You could think of this as being similar to the first series of personal story missions but with a lot more lore, more content, and adding life to the main cities and races. If they kept going after that then the same thing could be done for the three orders and the Pact.
I am so far behind in this game. I get overwhelmed with stuff every time I log in, got four 80's but dont know where to start when I log in.
Just go through living world achievements and take it from there! Aim for each releases metas imo, lots of fun to be had in that. Fractals, WvW and PvP. Raids if you're so inclined at the end of the road.

Don't worry about it, except on a few analytical moments, WP comments and behaves as if he's a "normal" player in this game. For most of us a single legendary weapon is still way too much and that's ok.

I have 12 lvl 80s and just one legendary weapon. All exotic/ascended gear. No time to grind.
Please continue to do these educational videos, nobody does it correctly and it's nice to have a streamlined video walking us through it all. Love the armor, keep it up!
I'm really glad stuff like this exists to reward the extra-dedicated tryhards that are the raiding community, even though I'm not a raider, just a lorehound and RPer who dearly loves this game.
This kind of reward can only make the game and the community that much stronger overall.
I'll only ever see this armor on other characters, and I'm okay with that. Heck, I'm still working on HOPE since HoT released, and that's been more than enough of an endgame goal for me. This is generally because I don't regularly farm much of anything, but prefer to spend my time in-game enjoying the game.

Seeing this in perspective a year later, I like not having legendary armor. When PoF dropped in, it was fun to gather mats for the new stat combination. (I'm crazy and like crafting a whole new set instead of Mystic Forge swapping it.) Legendary armor would kind of invalidate that.
I already saw a bunch of people wearing legendary armor at patch day while I can barely get materials for my ascended armor ._. FeelsBadMan
I am not so much annoyed by the trench-coat but by the look when you are not in the battle state. At least trench-coat is made to look cool as oppose to a nonsense without it (light and heavy look good in both states), especially pants - they barely change, are ugly and going to be covered by the coat anyway. I am a ranger main and playing mostly engi and thief in pvp so I guess I have to wait for a different set.
Congrats WP! Went with the heavy set myself. Very excited to get it. The armor was a long time coming for raiders and very worth it, even just for the rune/stat swapping.
My head cannon for the legendary armor is pretty much with the envoy armor being tied to the raids, you really do seem to become the 'Tyrian shepherd of souls'. With the releasing the river of souls and Saul's soul in both wings. so in a way this armor symbolizes you (the player) becoming the envoys of Tyria. as with all regions they look slightly different but through your adventures you are the new shepherd of souls ;) in a way.
Congrats WP! I also went for the light armor and I have to say, even though I love my old look, which I had lovingly perfected for over an year and a half with even weapons matching perfectly with my dyes, I'm not transmuting it!
Lots of technical issues with the armor though, specifically light and heavy. I hope they get resolved soon.
Man, this is so cool. Really stoked that it's not as expensive as most of us anticipated. Heavy looks so sick on all of my chars, as for light and medium mix&matching will be very nice. So much to do now till the expac hits.
I think that with the envoy theme they might be implying that we ourselves are shepherding the souls from the forsaken thicket and saul's soul into the mists.

I was crafting ascended armors and weapons non stop for different characters and then when Legendary v2 came out i crafted Nevermore as fast as I could. Then I got burnt out and stopped playing for 4-5 years. I just returned to GW2 this week and now I see there are armors too. I am afraid it's going to burn me out the same way Nevermore did. I hope it's not as crazy
I've been running around on a Charr ele wearing this light legendary for 3 days now and I'm still pissing myself watching it fold and unfold in the video :D Good job WP
I love all 3 sets, making medium right now => pretty close. Won't have LI for heavy so that's in 3 months or so hehe. Getting first set was easy if you ve been raiding and preparing. I have been handing in 3 provisioner tokens per day for aaaages (verdant brink is always unlocked), so I'm covered there for all 3 sets.
Trust me, WP you're going to want to read this post.
Today is the day I crafted my own legendary armor (Mesmer main so I also got the Light variant) and it's the most accomplished I've felt in this game. I went from being an outsider looking in at raid for over a year, wishing I could join. To doing training runs where we fail at a boss for two to three hours before calling it. To clearing a wing a night. To clearing wings 1-4 with my static every week while doing progression the second night on wing 5.
Nothing has come close to the sense of accomplishment I have with this armor, baring perhaps the first time I got my Royal Ascalonian Greatsword doing AC the first year, or my very first legendary weapon despite crafting a dozen of them in total afterwords, or beating Liadri during the first release of the Queen's Jubilee.
There's such a gaping hole with GW2's loot in terms of just having items that signify that you've done very specific content. Like I would perhaps consider it GW2's biggest missing piece. There' some cool stuff, like the Funerary Armor, Blades Armor, ect. ect. But compared to other MMORPG's they feel so few and far between. There's something special about being able to just look at another player and being able to see exactly what content they've done and what content they're actively working towards at a glance.
I'm telling you WP, I'm currently watching your latest Twitch Vod and I can tell you with 100% certainly you need to check out Classic World of Warcraft when it is released provided they don't completely fuck it up. The way it lead you through solo questing, to group questing, to group dungeons, to raiding just made you want to play the game more. Even just the fact that it made you, forced you, to communicate with other players to group up and do group content. It wasn't just skinner box rewards or the gear treadmill. It was the fact that there was difficult content that's so hard you can't even see it that gave you the allure (Go check out Blizzcon 2005's talks on Raid Design). It's not perfect. Most classes has exactly one role that was particularly effective for raid content and that was it. Balance was not it's strong suit. But in terms of your design sensibilities and pulling you into an immersive open world MMORPG it is exactly what you keep saying you want from an MMORPG.
WoW, by the time it's second expansion had come out, was a far more easy and casual game than it was by release. A minimum level of guaranteed epic loot. Multiple difficulty tiers so everyone can beat every raid. Even minor stuff like everyone being instantly teleported to the dungeons instead of having to physically go to them took away some of it's charms. By that point you could already see the writing on the wall in terms of where the game was going and by expansion 5 you were literally sitting at home while minions brought you free top tier gear.
I think if I had to define a game it is "an exercise in adversity that is mostly free of consequence outside of the game itself". While I do love a lot of things GW2 has done, there's a point where making everything as convenient as possible removes a lot about what actually makes the game interesting and memorable. Wiping repeatedly on a boss until you get it right makes that boss take a larger part of your cognitive thought and time compared to just effortlessly killing it the first time through for the sake of appeasing as many people as possible and freeing up as much of their schedule to do other things. It stays with you longer. It's why Matthias Gabrel the raid bosss is more memorable than Grand Inquisitor Victor, if you can even remember which White Mantle NPC that even is.
Just some rambling thoughts about difficulty, content, rewards, convenience, time sinks, as I sit and bask in my legendary armor.

I personally like the medium one. However, this is only because, like you, I am an asura main (engeneer) and the utility based kind of spikey look works with me. I can understand other people being not so happy for it being basically a trenchcoat joke.
I also decided on light and i'm very happy I did.. looks great on a human! Also the light armor is nice to play with dyes.
Watching the animations in preview mode, light cemented itself further as my top favorite. The medium...I think it's a pretty cool transformation now that I've seen both forms, like turning into a super hero. I need to preview it on someone else though cause the jacket in passive mode still seemed a bit boxy on my male engi. It's cooler than I initially gave it credit for, but it'd probably be the third one I go for unless it looks absolutely stellar on my main peep...I should probably preview that to be sure!
I'm glad to see that the tree held a place in the collection though since it did seem rather odd before and the character goes so far as to comment about it. Just found it rather neat
I will be getting medium shoulder piece along, I mostly play 3 medium class but non-combat medium really looks terrible except the shoulder piece.
The provisioners token part is probably the the biggest turnoff for me. Apart from it being 12 token per day bullshit time-gated, most of the outpost requires event completion to interact with the NPCs, that means only about 6-8 NPCs that are ready every time. They really need to fix this.
First I thougth that light was really ugly and that the only cool legendary armors were heavy but after seeing this I am glad I am an elementalist!!! Good job on the video WP

Just seeing how quickly you got legendary armour makes me realise how casual I am lol.
I've been playing since launch, but on-and-off (generally when new living world or story is release). Got 2000 hours which works out as a bit more than an hour a day, though much of that would have been in the first 2 years.
Still no legendary. XD I've attempted for one a few times but the time sink is too much for me, I've only gotten gift of mastery and exploration, and the clovers (which I got around the final step of LS1). No precursor, no gift of magic/might.
Any tips for getting a legendary weapon at this point? I've lost touch with GW2 for a while (though I always seem to watch your videos?), just bursted out the last 3 LS steps last week for the new episode.
Don't take it so rough. You've been able to get most of this stuff since launch of HoT. Most of the people that started raiding from the beginning have pretty much just been sitting on this stuff and waiting for the day Anet made it obtainable!
As for the legendaries- you need to set yourself a goal. 2k hours honestly isn't much if you've been playing since launch.
You are now able to craft your precursor, which I find to be rather unnecessarily drawn out, but it adds structure and a goal rather than just grinding for gold to buy it.
Really you're going to have to choose the option that best fits your time schedule. Pick the maps that have the best reward/time ratio...something like Auric Basin. Join an active guild!! My personal favorite route for money(also gotten a few precursors from it) is high level fractals. If you have a friend that is also working on a Legendary, pair up! Make it a "competition" just to take your mind off the grind! Just some suggestions, but in the end, it's going to be your dedication that makes it happen or not. :)
Oh man this is really making me want to make a set! Great vid WP - maybe I should get onto those provisioner tokens sooner than later...

My favorite aspect of the light armor is that when it is being stowed, the shoulder crystals rotate over and over as the armor retracts one by one, the helmet also all the crystals stack into each other one by one.
that and how they split the skirt/cape-thing for charr. Light armor looks really good on charr

I can see why a lot of players would want PvP or WvW Legendary armor introduced as well as players that don't raid finding ways to acquire it other than having to raid, BUT it would take away from what it means to have Legendary armor.
I myself would love to have a set a least and I'd be actually willing to do some raiding but I am very cautious about raiding, in this game in particular, and that is because of how toxic some of the other players can be (FotM is easily a good example of this). Yes I get it, if you don't know how to play your class properly then why bother, also other factors can weigh someone down in hopes of raiding.
Anyways, again congrats!

Personally using a light armor class myself, went for that on my char ele, love it but think shoulders gloves are a bit excessive and I hate the headpiece making a mask show up. I like seeing my characters faces with little obstruction
i consider pure monetary investment to be the easiest of the tasks. easier than farming the specific map metas since you can earn your gold in any way you like.

Hi W.P. I know it sounds trivial but do you reckon there's any value in producing an up to date Provisioner token guide as its interesting seeing how this video has aged in 2020 and I reckon you can open a lot of peoples' eye's as to all the sources at their disposal.
WP try using the growth combat tonic from the new map on your main, maybe that will help.
I gotta agree with you that some of the requirements for the gifts seem way out of proportion to one another. At 13 legendary insights per week, it would take a little under 12 weeks just to get all you would need, assuming a full clear every week, basically 3 months of pure raiding, while the map clears can be done in just a couple of days work. I'm not even gonna talk about the monetary requirements for those gifts of prosperity though, man, screw that. I just got my flameseeker prophecies, which I've been working (very lazily) since launch to get, and this all seems like way too much effort. Stat swapping would be nice as hell, but i just can't be bothered with all that.
Medium is just ANet's way of trolling medium class mains.

WP I can't believe it but I actually like the med legendary armor. Thought it made my ranger look like a samurai, though the stowed look is laughable. Fits perfect for its next elite
My thought is that they are implying that either Saul or Samarog is an envoy.

Am I the only one who likes the Medium Armour? I think it looks the best, I really like the light too, but my favorite is the medium.
Looks awesome, but even a Legendary weapon feels far in the future for me assuming I ever train up the crafting skill needed.

This is a lot of busy work, too much busy work I should say. Of course you made it look easy. Honestly this takes fun out of the game for me, and instead turns it into a job. I already spent way too much time crafting ascended gear and weapons for just ONE of my characters and loads of time and effort getting the Griffon and then the Skyscale. Legendary Armor is just not worth it imho.

i started raiding in july 2016. my friends only have wednesday to Raid/train. so i only managed to kill 27 ValeGuardains and only 5 gorsevals. gonna take a while for me to join the charr armored tail meta :P
I hated that light armor when I've seen it on females. But it actually look awesome on asuras and males. *__* I can't wait to get new pc and start practicing for raids. :3

Can you only ever get one of the three sets of legendary armour skins? I imagined that the skins for the other two weight classes would unlock alongside the one you made, as we see with things like the Living World meta-achievement rewards, but looking at this video that seems not to be the case...
no, you can unlock the recipes for the precursor of other two weight classes at the master craftsmen (25li +5g a piece)
you can make all three sets, not entirely sure but i think you'll mostly need the same materials again for additional sets. maybe extra legendary insights or something.

Just to make one thing clear ... you do 2 collection for full set of legendary armor of your choosing? So the choice between light/medium/heavy is imporant as this is one time thing and the easiest legendary armor to get?
really wish I could play the update but I slipped a disc in my back right after loosing my job on Monday, so I'm bed ridden, taking a piss is probably harder then making the legendary armour for me atm ×_×
Haha, I've been watching your Prophecies videos lately, which have lots of superspeeds and seeing some here to felt weird in a good way. Also, congrats on the armor! How do you compensate yourself about having an asura main? I recently geared an asura mesmer with Bolt and Flameseeker shield but I also feel like I don't get their whole value on an asura. I'd like to know your thoughts if possible. Cheers!
I really don't have much to compensate, except sometimes playing alts! Otherwise my main just kinda looks like a glowing ball of infusions. Kinda sad but it's the price we pay for those sweet fast asura movement animations I guess. And awesome to hear you're watching prophecies! Always love me some speed up.
I have to disagree on what is the most painful part of crafting the armor, the tokens take time but are easy, just ~5min/day. But the HoT related stuff is killing me(30 chack eggs so 30 kills if you are not lucky, then VB a map what was never popular ... , at least you can buy the reclaimed metal). Maybe everything is amplified by the fact I want to craft all 3 sets and im missing ~350 LI(another 30 weeks of raiding) so for me another gate in form of provisioners token is not a big deal.
5 minutes my ass. More than half of the provisioners are gated behind events, the worst being SCAR where you have to do the ENTIRE event chain. Every day. For 25 days. Yeah, no, it's not easy, it's not fun.
Meanwhile, if you select chak eggs from the daily even chest, you can easily get 30 eggs with just 15 metas, and that's if you never get a chak egg dropped, which is impossible.
It takes more than 5 min if you go for the gated ones/ heavily gated. I usually do 8/10 because im in no rush(gated by LI for the last set) so for me is 5min. Another problem is that the chak eggs drop after you kill the garent, me and you are doing the hot stuff now but good luck doing a TD meta in 1 year.
That's what people were saying an year ago, "good luck doing HoT maps a year after the expansion launches" :P
So if you craft the legendary armor does it change armor type if u switch characters? For example in this video its light armor for elementalist but if u send it to a guardian, does it become heavy armor?

honestly i think animations for legendary armor is cool but i hate the way all of them look, im just not a fan of all the spikes and stuff. Was kinda of hoping i would like them more so i would have a reason to start raiding and have a long term goal and keep me playing gw2 between living world updates but i happier with the way my mix and matched armor looks except i want a male light armor that is just pants with no butt capes
Are the precursor armor ascended quality? Would this be a good easy way to get ascended at cheap cost?

I'm an old old playet of gw2 and stopped after one year simce ciz all my friends left and it wasn't fun but i always felt empty for not getting Twilight i wanted it soo bad and still just don't know if coming back is going to be overwhelming and from where would i begin...
Just follow the story and it will take you trough the new maps in the game.

Wait, if it's tied to a collection, does that mean you can only make one set? You make light and you can't make heavy any more?
Once you complete the two collections you can unlock recipes to make the others!

What is the total cost on the legendary armor set? I just finished crafting Nevermore the night before episode 5 dropped and I am looking for something new to do.
