I'm a full-on atheist who's got a solid 0.00001% chance of being converted, but I just wanna say I'm happy that YOU'RE one of the big Christian apologists. You have a very kind/approachable demeanour. I always find it weird when I give out advice on how to convert atheists, but if I had to give advice, I'd tell someone to model after you. Despite what your live chat looks like, I feel sorta welcomed by you and I get to hear your POVs, which is interesting to me.

    One Solitary Life
He was born in an obscure village,
the child of a peasant woman.
He grew up in another obscure village where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty.
    He never wrote a book.
    He never held an office.
    He never went to college.
He never visited a big city.
He never travelled more than two hundred miles from the place where he was born.
He did none of the things usually associated with greatness.
He had no credentials but himself.
He was only thirty three when
    his friends ran away.
    One of them denied him.
He was turned over to his enemies
and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While dying, his executioners gambled for the only property he had on earth, his clothing. When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone,
and today he is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress.
All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that ever reigned put together
Have not affected the life of mankind on earth
As powerfully as that one solitary life.

Twelve Ordinary Men- John Macarthur :
Among those who stayed with Christ were the Twelve, whom He had personally selected and appointed to represent Him. They were twelve perfectly ordinary, unexceptionable men. But Christ's strategy for advancing His kingdom hinged on those twelve men rather than on the clamouring multitudes. He chose to work through the instrumentality of those few fallible individuals rather than advance His agenda through mob force, military might, personal popularity, or a public relations campaign. From a human perspective, the future of the church and long-term success of the gospel depended entirely on the faithfulness of that handful of disciples. There was no plan B if they failed.
... The Kingdom advances "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit' says the Lord of Hosts" (Zechariah 4:6)
There's another striking reality in this. When Jesus chose the Twelve to be his official representatives - preachers of the gospel who would carry both His message and His authority - he didn't choose a single rabbi. He didn't choose a scribe. He didn't choose a Pharisee. He didn't choose a Saducee. He didn't choose a priest. Not one of the men He chose came from the religious establishment. The choosing of the twelve apostles was a judgement against institutionalized Judaism. It was a renunciation of those men and their organizations, which had become totally corrupt. That is why the Lord didn't choose one recognized religious leader. He chose instead men who were not theologically trained - fishermen, a tax collector, and other common men.

@38:38 JWW encouraged young Christians to get involved in scientific research. That's a very good advice. I second it.
If they like it, young students should pursue careers in biology research, because there's so much to learn and discover in biology, that could lead to new medicines and treatments, specially in the fascinating area of control systems (e.g. bioelectric networks, morphogenetic codes and regulatory genomics/epigenomics that are being deciphered using deep learning techniques).
Biology is the new queen of science, while Math and Physics are the efficient advisors of the new queen. Physics seems to experience a partial stagnation and much speculation, while exciting biology discoveries are piling up at an accelerated pace, making it very difficult to grasp even a very specialized portion of them. It's really becoming unbelievably mind-boggling. Biology research is discovering wonderful complex functionally specified information systems, which empirically we know that can be created only by intelligent minds.
Unlike Physics, there is no much room for speculation in Biology, because technological advance is increasingly making it possible to observe biological processes in vivo. In Biology the more we know, more is there for us to learn. As the outstanding questions get answered, many new ones are raised. But it's what we know, not the unknown, that increasingly points to the indescribable mind of Logos.
We don't worship fictional "gods of gaps", but the God of the whole show, as professor Lennox has stated so clearly. When we realize that our amazing Creator has graciously provided the Way for us to someday be in His glorious presence without the universal time constraints, we are awestruck.
    Praise Adonai Eloheinu!

I'm really interested in what he has to say about the Messianic prophecies. His button analogy is quite thought-provoking. It is so sad that apologists pay little attention to discussing the prophecies that point to Jesus as expressed in the NT. Honestly, its scary to me. Dr. Michael Brown has a series, but its a ton of books and one references the other. You have to have his entire library it seems just to track down a few facts. I'm not sure why he has not produced a succint book on the best and some of the hardest prophecies. Anyway, I'll be getting the book. Now will I have time to complete it???? That's the question!

Another explanation of many of the fulfilled 'prophecies' is that Jesus was filling to the full (fulfilling) David's story and Israel's story. Therefore, it wasn't always the author saying, 'look! Jesus fulfilled this prediction!' But rather 'look! Jesus identified with Israel/David/etc. in this way!'

In Jewish tradition there are 4 ways of interpreting the text of Tanakh. The literal meaning and the allegorical meaning and the hinted at meaning and the hidden meaning. The NT writers didn’t always use the literal interpretation face value contextual meaning of the verses they quoted from Tanakh. Often they interpreted them using the allegorical meaning or the hidden meaning or the hinted at meaning of the verses they quoted in light of the events of the life of Jesus and what he said and did as the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Mashiach Ben Yosef in his first advent and the yet to be fulfilled prophecies he will fulfill concerning Mashiach Ben David in his second advent. Often they quoted from the Greek LXX Septuagint translation instead of the literal Hebrew original like when Matthew’s gospel quotes Isaiah 7:14 from the LXX where the literal Hebrew HaAlmah meaning the young maiden that may or may not be a virgin is translated in Greek as He Parthena meaning the virgin so perhaps that just makes the hinted at meaning more clear. Matthew also quotes Hosea 11:1 where it’s talking about HaShem loving Israel when he was a lad and calling his son from Egypt. The literal context speaks of the Exodus but the hidden meaning is a prophecy about Jesus leaving Egypt as a lad. Jesus as Mashiach represents Israel as the king of Israel and is the servant of HaShem in Isaiah 53 even though Isaiah quotes HaShem calling Israel his servant earlier in the servant songs because as Mashiach and King of Israel Jesus represents Israel and is the ultimate Jew because he alone was perfectly Torah observant

The historical record shows *_NOTHING_* about Jesus without relying on the New Testament other than that a person named Jesus existed and some people worshiped him a long time ago. This is because Jesus does not exist in the historical record, outside of the New Testament (which really isn't a historical record), except as a few sentences referencing Christians of the time.
This is utterly ridiculous... without the oral tradition that became the New Testament, there would be nothing about Jesus known today. Even the tiny tidbits that show up in secular writings are based on what the Christians of the time believed, aka the oral tradition that became the New Testament. Beyond that, its funny that he admits that the stories were reliant on the spread of the Roman Empire... meaning that the story was less important than the time and place.
Gasp! When you make a set of traits that are from the New Testament stories about Jesus, then compare them to some other myths, you come up with the stories about Jesus as the one that fits them the most? Wow!
Guess what... if you made a set of traits from one of the other myths, then compared them to all the other myths, only the one that you made the set from would contain all the traits.
Science, math, music, etc didn't come from Christianity. The Christian scientists in the Middle ages were building on what came before from people like Egyptians, Muslims, Phoenicians, etc. Nothing starts or ends with Christians.
What utter nonsense... He should write a book about how to go from a failed detective to making a great living from lying to believers.

*Quote:* "without the oral tradition that became the New Testament, there would be nothing about Jesus known today"
      *Answer:*
The *atheist/agnostic historian* Bart Ehrmann claims that there are non-biblical sources mentioning Jesus of Nazareth in the book "Does Jesus exist? A historical argument for the existence of Jesus".
If you will not take it from me, then at least take it from him.
Below are all non-biblical sources mentioning Jesus or his movement.
      - Pliny, Thallus, Lucien, Tacitus, Celsus, Mara-bar Serapion, Josephus and the Talmud (non-biblical sources by non-Christians).
      - Letters by the church fathers (non-biblical sources by Christians)
      ___________________________________________
Josephus *does* mentions Jesus of Nazareth in "Antiquities of the Jews".
Quote: "wise man called Jesus /.../ And many people from among the Jews and the other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemend him to be crucified and to die."
There is only one person named Jesus that was condemned by Pilate and had a following of gentiles as well.
And no, it was not an interpolation. There is a historical core.
Josephus did NOT copy that from Christians, because the martyrdom of James is NOT mentioned in the New Testament.
      _______________________________________________
Here is all the info we get about Jesus from non-biblical sources:
      a) Josephus and Lucian indicate that He was regarded as wise and
      b) Pliny, the Talmud, and Lucian imply He was a powerful and revered teacher and
      c) Josephus and the Talmud indicate He performed miraculous feats and
      d) Tacitus (in "Annals"), Josephus (in "Antiquituis of the jews"), the Talmud, and Lucian all mention that He was crucified and
      e) Tacitus and Josephus say this occurred under Pontius Pilate and
      f) the Talmud declares it happened on the eve of Passover and
      g) there are possible references to the Christian belief in His resurrection in both Tacitus and Josephus and
      h) Josephus and Celsus record that His followers believed He was Messiah or the Son of Elohim and
      i) Pliny and Lucian indicate that Christians worshipped Him as a Deity and
      j) Mara of Syria (Mara Bar Serapion) suggests that calamites came to be partially as a result of the execution of the wise King of the Jews and
      k) Phlegon indicates (with Thallus indicating something similar?) that there was an eclipse of the sun during the full moon that was accompanied with earthquakes during the reign of the emperor who was in power from 14 CE to 37 CE and
      l) both Tacitus and Suetonius indicate that Christians were punished by the emperor who was in power from 54 CE to 68 CE and
      m) there was even a huge fire as far away as the Italian Peninsula that was blamed on followers of Him as early as 64 CE.

I get so disappointed in Christians that refuse to stand and say CATHOLICISM IS NOT CHRISTIANITY!! I was raised Catholic and I know what is involved. Mary is the intercessor between God and man…you pray to her and she prays to Jesus. They also say SHE was the one born of a virgin! They literally DO NOT believe what the Bible says…they say it is faulty because it was written by man…not inspired by God as it claims to be. They pray to dead people to help them instead of God. They use the EXACT same icons as did the worship of Semiramis and Tammuz…the son Gods child…and they call Mary the ‘queen of heaven’ which was a goddess condemned in scripture. They do literally everything the scriptures tell us not to…calling priests father…we have only one father…God! They do rituals and chants which are condemned in scripture. Stop saying what Catholicism did had anything to do with Christianity. It doesn’t. It’s so far distant that it’s no different than any other cult in the world….just larger.

⭐⭐⭐ JESUS IS COMING VERY VERY VERY SOON!🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
The return of Jesus is at hand!
JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN!
    📖 John 14:6 says,
" Jesus says, 'I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES UNTO THE FATHER (in Heaven) BUT BY ME'.
JESUS CHRIST is the only, true way to Salvation! It’s the free gift of GOD to all those who believe and trust Him!
SALVATION! is the redemption of one’s soul from eternal destruction after death of man, on this earth, by the cleansing of the blood, and by the death and power of resurrection of Jesus Christ
    📖Acts.4:12 says.
Salvation is found in no one else (except Jesus Christ), for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
How is SALVATION gifted to man?
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
    📖John 3:3 says,
Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, Except a man be Born Again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
How can a man be BORN-AGAIN?
To be Born-Again in spiritual sense, is to die to our old sinful nature and be born-again in the spirit, to be holy, righteous with a new nature in Christ Jesus.
👉To be born-again, we need to repent & confess our sinful past for a holy future.
    What is repentance?
👉 REPENTANCE! Everyone born into this world is a Born-sinner. Human nature is a sinful nature. Sin in us has defiled us and has separated us from the Holy Gowit
We have to repent for all the unholy, lawless transgressions of God’s commandments done willfully or unknowingly, in order to obtain mercy and grace so that we might not be judged and fall into condemnation, the condemnation of eternal hell.
📖 Acts.3:19 says,..✔️Repent, then, and turn to GOD, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the LORD
    What is confession of sins?
👉 CONFESSION! The guilt of sin and it’s condemnation is rolled away if one truly regrets his sinful past and confesses them in the presence of Jesus Christ.
    📖Romans.10:9 &10
✔️That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
    📖 1 John, 1st chapter & verse 9 says..
✔️If we confess our sins, He (Jesus Christ) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins(every sin)...
The sole purpose of sending Jesus Christ into this world more than 2020 ago is this👇
    📖John.3:16-17 says "
👉 GOD so loved the world (us) that He (Father GOD) gave His only begotten Son to die for us ( our redemption ), that whosoever believes in Him (Jesus) should not perish (in hell) but have everlasting life.
👉 GOD has not sent His Son to condemn the world (us), but the world (we) through Him (Jesus Christ) might be saved.

Reliable sources? Daniel doesn't fit, and neither does Ezekiel. Most of the prophecies were written after the fact and for Ezekiel, read chapters 26 and 29 and compare it to actual history.
As for Jesus fulfilling prophecy, it's easy for people to shape a narrative to match prophecy when that prophecy was both written long ago and contains vague details allowing future generations to make leaps of logic to get there. Case closed!

    • @tonygrigg1173
      @tonygrigg1173 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I understand the concern that people could have gone back and changed the texts after the fact. I too share that concern and it's really important to see if that is the case! I think there's good evidence to believe why that's not the case, but I'm also not an expert.
Aside from that, do you know of anyone who would want to fulfill a prophecy that says you die in one of the most painful and shameful ways known at the time? And all the while doing it KNOWING what you're saying about yourself isn't true, only to convince people you are the person the prophecy described? Would you be willing to do this? It gets even trickier when the second plausible explanation is that Jesus was a nut-job, which I think he clearly wasn't. That leaves only the last, third option, which seems absurd, that Jesus was God and the whole thing was planned. But the other two explanations don't seem to fit with his following and what happened after he died.
Also, did JWW's point about a shirt button and tracing it to the suspect make sense? Because I think he addressed your concern of muddled prophecies with the topic of "cloaked prophecies".
Maybe it would be an idea to read JWW's book and sort through it before closing the case (although maybe you've already done extensive research on the topic already!).

Part of the reason the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus Christ are unimpressive is because you're reading the corrupted masoretic text in which the Rabbis of the 2nd century removed &/or altered critical passages to obscure Jesus' fulfillment of prophecy. The New Testament writers overwhelmingly quoted the (unaltered) Septuagint.

15:37 - my hypothesis on why there is shared expectations, just as there is a shared flood story dealing w/ sin/ corruption between every ancient civilization I have looked into that had left a record of some sort, is because after the flood, until the Tower of Babbel, we were together and sharing these historical truths & revealed truths.
God had chosen the Israelites to be the protectors of the Historical truths to pass on, as well as how to worship God, His plans to bring us back into communion w/ Him after the fall, etc.
At the Tower of Babel, we didn’t listen to God’s commandment to go forth and multiply over the land, but huddled together, creating gods of men, so God confused our tongues (an interesting side note is that we are rapidly losing languages today,), and forced us to go out. Each w/ those who shared the same language, but maintaining the traditions and stories. These traditions and stories became more and more distorted from the original, overtime, only holding portions of the truth. The Israelites were chosen to be the protectors of the full, uncorrupted account (hence, the Chosen people).
When Jesus came in the flesh, born into a virgin, fulfilling all the promises, He instituted His new Church, to be the protectors of the full revelations of God and how we are to properly worship Him and how we are to act and behave, w/ His new Bishop & Priest class.

The interview was amazing and I enjoyed Warner Wallace’s insights and how he connects the knowledge that he has acquired in his career with his faith. However, I felt troubled when he answered the last question at 59:50 (by the way, an AMAZING question). He says that there is a chance that he could be wrong about the Gospel and and that it could be possible that Jesus did not raise from the dead. The Gospel is the one thing that we as Christians don’t (shouldn’t) have even a hint of doubt about! Jesus Christ is not just true, He is the prerequisite of reality itself to exist! John 1 verse 3 tells us that: “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made”. There it is right there. We can have doubts about anything BUT the Gospel. If reality is objective, there must be one immovable and undeniable Truth that was and is and will be true no matter what. And then Wallace proceeds to say “is it possible I’m wrong (about Jesus, as I understood it)? Of course, give me a break”. Well, as Christians, we may have no breaks when it comes to our faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus warned us to be either hot or cold, but not lukewarm. Rev 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth”. I acknowledge that believers go through seasons of weakened faith. We do live in a fallen world and must endure through spiritual warfare. But it seems to me that a believer’s default belief, being filled with the Holy Spirit, is that the Gospel is true and there may be no doubt about it.

However I don’t have such evidences, except I have read the Book of Mormon a number of times. Watched the account of the “ First Vision” and read the Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants as well as the Bible. If that is not suffice, then listen to the current Prophets , Seers and Revelators. If that doesn’t provide enough evidence, then it’s time you got on your knees and talk to God and await the answers?

  • @markmorley7938

What we know about Jesus, is the life of Christ according to witnesses and words written from Prophets, Seers and Revelators. What many of us fail to realise is the oerspective from those writers and their evidences. However if we consider when Jesus stated when we dig a hole and fall into that hole we may never get out, is out of the question because Jesus never said that? Similarly when Jesus scolded the man from Samaria and stated that Samaritans are often heathens, Jesus never stated that either. So what I attempt to bring to people’s minds is simple and even children should understand it. Jesus never wrote stories about Himself nor did He make any claims of criticism to any faiths, people, or specific groups such as the Romans etc. No it is only the writers that defined Samaritans, Romans and Jews, Christ only chastised those that were sinners among the people, not once did He speak to a nation, kindred or tongue, He was not the writer, He was the minister. Hence any purported Christian, or true believer of Christ, would not chastise, criticise, rebuke or any other against a Church or any believers but merely direct to the truth. For that same reason, we too cannot state that Evangelicals, Apologists, Catholics, Protestant of LDS etc are wrong except they preach against God and His kingdom! For too long we have those among us, professing to be Christians but often go against what Christ ministered!
Evidences of God and Jesus Christ have been built upon from the beginning and exist to the end. To rule out scriptures, Prophets, Seers and Revelators, then truth would cease. However due to an Apostasy taking place after the death of Christ, it was necessary for God to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ through The Book of Mormon. Now we can witness how the True Church of Christ has been restored as in The Church zig Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Know them by their fruits!

I don’t think it could. For instance, other religions don’t remotely claim Mohammed as they nearly all do Jesus. That’s just one example.

@@zach2980 Actually, it's not. There are probabilistic challenges to Darwinism raised by (non-Christian) mathematicians and computer scientists. There is also a harder obstacle in the fact that especiation needs a large influx of information (to produce new genes, proteins, etc.) at different stages, and information does not generate itself from random processes. Check Steven Meyer's work for more details on this.

When I got to the part about the 6 areas of culture, I was blown away.
I was a missionary with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) for 25 years, which is one of the top 2 largest missionary organizations in the world, the other being Campus Crusades for Christ. I worked with hospital ships in Africa and the South Pacific. Both organizations believe the best way to Disciple the Nations is to bring Christ into every aspect of a nations culture, by transforming or discipling all of the main areas that influence a culture the most. They identified 7 specific areas of focus and they are often referred to as the 7 Mind Molders or the 7 Spheres of Influence. They include the 6 in J’s list. They are:
    1-Family
2-Economics (including Science, Technology & Business)
    3-Government
    4-Religion
    5-Education
    6-Communications/Media
7-Celebration (including Arts, Entertainment & Sports)
Everything YWAM does around the world is designed around bring Jesus into these 7 Spheres of each culture we go to.

After retiring, I got my dream job teaching in a Christian Academy in San Salvador and was even able to teach history. On p 411 of Abeka's History of the World in Christian Perspective, 1995, Pensacola Christian College, we find this quote: "(Queen) Victoria spoke for the nation in her reply to a visiting African chief who asked her the secret of England's greatness. The queen did not take him to the Tower of London to see the glittering crown jewels or to hear the brilliant orators who debated in Parliament. Instead, she presented the chief with a Bible, and said, 'Here is the secret of England's greatness.'"

I agree some prophesies are hard to see in isolation. I think some prophesy requires looking at something big picture, For example Psalms book 1 Ps 1-41 poetically Genesis, starts with a man who is a tree of life and ends with a betrayed man like Joseph meant to save the world. Like the promise to Abraham to inherit the world as Roman's puts it, the Son of God will inherit the nations in Ps 2 in the first prayer of Psalms given by God to His Son. The world is fallen Ps 11-14 but who can climb the mountain of God Ps 15, and24? Who but the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, the king in Ps 22 23 24 allowing 'the meek to inherit the earth' in Ps 25 in the son and in the spirit of the Abrahamic promise to bless the nations in his seed and as part of the blessings of David that if he had a righteous son God would be His father.. The meek inherit the earth in Ps 37 (in the son) and how? Ps 35 the trial of Jesus Ps 41 the last supper. The church founded, paid for by the suffering of christ and forgiveness follows in Ps 30 31 32. In the big picture prophesy points to Jesus but if sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees. The mural in big picture points to Jesus, the seed of Abraham, the son of David, the son of God, the son of Man. I think a lot of prophesy is a strong argumen in the harmony of scripture as it sings in ensemble.

Many Jews will say that because Jesus did not fulfill a large number of Messianic prophecies, then he cannot be the Messiah. Christians likewise believe (or should believe) that Jesus did not fulfill a large number of Messianic prophecies, but we are looking forward to the day when he will. In other words, both Jews and Christians are waiting for the Messiah to come. It's just that for Christians, we know it will be the second coming of Jesus when those prophecies will be fulfilled, while Jews when envision that future day are thinking of it as the Messiah's first coming. It is bad logic to say that the yet unfulfilled prophecies prove that it can't be someone who already came once; all that needs to be allowed for is for the Messiah to come more than once. Cf. Hosea 6:3 (the coming/appearing as two in number) alongside James 5:7-9. This is what Christians have believed and known since the ascension announcement, yet too many times Christians act as though Jesus has already fulfilled all the prophecies he was meant to fulfill, and think that the Jews are wrong to still be awaiting that day when Messiah will come and make all things right.
