In this high definition video, New Jersey Transit Atlantic City Line trains are seen flagging the Westfield Ave grade crossing in Pennsauken a malfunctioning grade crossing signal. NJT Police were also on hand to also help protect the grade crossing.
    Locomotives (Lead Locomotive/Trailing)
    1. NJT Cabcar #5017 / NJT GP40PH-2B #4212 w/
    2. NJT P40 #4803 / NJT ALP-44M #4429 (ACES)
    3. NJT ALP-44E #4415 / NJT P40 #4802
*Note* - Made sure to the best of my ability to keep the faces of the crew members OFF camera.

Love when the GP40 pulls away. So scary. Reminds me of when I was a kid - watching them come at me. Like seeing a monster ;)

Thanks Kyle. Of course, it happens quite often. But since my camera is so clear its easier to see who they are/what they are doing. I try whenever possible not to put any train crews on camera. Of course, seeing the engineer through the window is unavoidable. It's just the way I roll :)

Grade crossings do malfunction almost everywhere. Its happened many times on the Baltimore Light Rail. And the last one I heard with the Baltimore Light Rail service had to be suspended on the Light Rail as the result and shuttle buses had to operate the service.

No problem. And I see what you mean about clarity -- your camera is INSANELY sharp! But I still don't understand what they need to be protected from? If it was a cab ride, or someone hanging out of a window.. yeah. But an operation like this? And LOL nice, Mike. Nice =D

Much history no longer with us. The P40DCs, the ALP-44s, the Comet IV cabs, the ACES, all gone. The P40DCs now serve Connecticut's CTrail, while the Comet IV cab cars remain as trailing coaches. The ALP-44s are stored.

Grade Crossing malfunctions are a nightmare near my school, though I only experienced one. I remember taking two hours on the bus b/c they couldn't open up the gates at the Lake Road crossing on the Gladstone Branch.

deathcult, the aces trains runs from penn new york to atlantic city so they have the 44 on there to run from penn station threw the tunnel to newark. at newark they usealy stop and drop the pans and run deisel to ac and deisel to newark again. the 44 is pretty much only there to get threw the tunnel to penn station

@Jc42bugs I would guess that the gates are stuck down and cop or no cop the trains are required by law to flag at the crossing (I'm not from the States and don't know thetransportation laws in the US, but that would make the most sense)

Were all the trains in this video heading for Atlantic City, New York, or somewhere else?

    • @IVR02

Nice catch. I'm more familiar with the NJT on the Raritan Valley/NEC than Atlantic City lines. I knew they were using the P40s down there, but were they always running with a locomotive at each end? Up this way they either use a cab car or run the engine around the train. Interesting that they use the older electric ALPs. Are there electrified tracks at some point? Thanks!

    • @ploopy5235

On the ACL the P40 was the one supplying the power to the whole train while on the NEC the ALP-44 supplies the power to the whole train.
