He fought in and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He and Audie Murphy came home and died young in plane/helicopter crashes.

This is the second time “the day the music died” in March of 1963. Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copus were also killed in the same plane crash that sad day.

I liked Hawkshaw Hawkins’ rendition. Gone way too soon, along with Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas. They all had a lot of music left in them.
