    When our school teacher was teaching this I was the only one in class who asked why and many people laughed cause they thought I was cracking a joke and the teacher said it's just a fact.Then I said that how is this fact true the teacher then told to learn it this way but then I again asked the logic behind it and why so the teacher scolded me saying I was asking unnecessary questions and told me to leave the class and I didn't even bothered browsing about the answer in the web because of this incident.And finally after 3 years (I am in ninth grade now) I got the answer !☺

      If you really want to understand why a negative times a negative is a positive, you will need to take a class on analysis I or advanced calculus. Basically, you begin with a set of rules to construct the natural numbers called the Peano axioms. Once you have the natural numbers, you can construct the set of integers (these include negatives) as an ordered pair of natural numbers. While constructing the integers, you with learn that negation is defined to "reverse" the ordered pair of natural numbers. Also you with need to define how to do integer multiplication. From the definition of integer multiplication and negation, the only logical outcome is that a negative times a negative is a positive. This kind of math is known as rigorous math or analysis.

    • @jong7100
      @jong7100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will note though, that analysis came much later on. Before a negative times a negative equals a positive was just a fact you had to take on faith since you would have inconsistencies if this were not the case. And the whole purpose of math is for it to be consistent.

    Means he want to eat(+)
    If person B said "yes" then the conclusion would be i don't want to eat(-)

      Superb questions. ..
      I think this is the greatest question we should ask every mathematician brother...

    • @yogeshpathak73
      @yogeshpathak73 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's say you owe bank Rs. 100 in account A. That means your balance in account A is -100.
      Now let's say the bank owes you three times as much amount in another account B. What is your balance in account B?
      Since the direction of "owing" has changed compared to account A, the multiplier will be -3. Balance in account B is therefore -3 x -100 = 300... The positive sign showing that bank owes you this amount, unlike account A where you owe the bank.
      Hope this clarifies...

    • @yogeshpathak73
      @yogeshpathak73 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the example given by Nganba, both accounts have negative balances and since direction of "owing" is same in both accounts, multiplier is 2. In both accounts if you had -100 balance, total balance will be 2x-100 = -200. Negative balance shows you still owe the bank...

    Thank you sir for such wonderful explanation. One day I teach my son who is in 6th grade the multiplication of integers. While teaching I told him that -2 x -4 = +8, he asked “why” it is +ve not -ve. I tried to convince him in many ways but he was not convinced at all. Then I told his maths teacher to explain the concept. As while my childhood I mug up that multiplication of two -ve numbers are +ve only and my mind accepted that till date. But when my son questioned me, I am really anxious to know why it is so. After watching your video, I understand the logic behind this very well and my son too. The words uttered by you that “one more mystery of the universe is solved” are literally true for me. My mind was unaware of this unsolved mystery but I am very thankful to you for solving my untold mystery. Teaching math with such a wonderful trick is really amazing. If mathematics taught by such concepts, nobody hates or fearing of mathematics.

    i think the deep reason behind it lies in vector product convention. when we are to multiply two numbers having two extra options of "+" & "-" signs, then we need four directions to describe the multiplication process in two dimensions forming an Area of two faces called front and back. By conventions regarding signs as which sign is prescribed to which direction, the resulting area is resulted in either of two faces having positive or negative sign due to clockwise or anticlockwise multiplication. This video demonstrates the product in one dimension which forces the viewer to imagine the other dimension in mind abstractly.

    If you have 3 baskets per 2 apples, you have 6 of them.
    If you owe 2 apples to 3 people, you basically have -6 of them.
    If you owe 2 apples to 3 people that don't exist, you don't have to pay them, so you have 6 of them.
    Quick maths.

      Probably you haven't had much knowledge of Indians. It's too foolish to generalise everything. Not all or every Indians are the way you explained,though many are. The wise man should also look at the history, how many times indians have been looted up amd kept away from development. The process and awareness you're talking about comes with interests and right path which many indians are yet to achieve. Not all Indians are getting the right education. Most of them start their education from govt schools and you know the condition of those schools. Changes are coming. Good governance has come, good things will be seen. Keep patience. And please request you don't generalise. If those "Indians" who call themselves intelligent were foolish to say so, then we would not be so good at space exploration and stuff. We're developing in all the sectors. Give it some time. Don't generalise.

    N+N=P

      Aerohn Celedonio P+N may equal negative if the negative number is bigger than the positive. PxN = N - no matter what you do it will equal negative. So it should be
      PxN = N
      PxP = P
      NxP = N
      NxN = P

    This video explain you how to solve a minus x minus

    • @tekmusti
      @tekmusti 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "How answers" takes you to "why answers"
      Why answers' means that "because of the math rules"
      So,"why answers" comes from the math rules.
      Therefore, İf you ask why -*-= +
      The answer is because of the rule.
      The rule comes from discription that who made it or realised it.
      For example, does the one as a number exist?
      No!
      So ,how did it appear?
      Or what is that "1" then ?
      Where does the "1" come from?
      The "1" come from hypothesis.
      Someone made a stick and called it as "one". And anotherone give a sembol which is "1".
      So,another numbers created like that.
      What is the relation between nımbers and "why ansfer"?
      The relation is hypothesis and, rules comes from hypothesies
      İf you proff your hypothesis by calculating over the discbricrion terms,then your hypothesis becomes a rule.
      So in math, there is no exact "why answers "
      Because all rhe math concept comes from hypothesies.

    The operations are representations of logic statements we must read to the end to compute them correctly. -2 × -3 = 6 is read "minus two times minus three equals six." We speak "We don't have time" or "we have no time". But if we say "we don't have no time" we are telling a logical riddle that can be translated in terms of time as "we have time".

    Hi bhayya I have another explanation to it, with white balls and black balls. White is positive and black negative. Now if I take 10 white balls and add 4 black balls, it becomes 6. If I remove the ball it is minus and if i add it is plus. So if I again remove 2 times 2 black balls it is -2 * -2 , the result is 10 which is 6 plus 4. Hence -ve times negative is positive.
