There is a black box warning on Cipro. I, as well as many others have widespread tendonosis and neuropathy due to taking this antibiotic. It is a floroquinolone antibiotic that should only be used as a last resort in a life or death situation. I was an active person and I’m pretty much bedridden due to taken this.
I almost cringed at this, but the booklet is clutch. If youre going to get this, please stick to what the booklet says for use. Antimicrobial stewardship is a real thing and forming resistant bugs can be almost worse than whatever is going on at the time. Pro tips: if you are going to dive into an antibiotic for something that relates to the booklet, please finish it lol. One or two doses won't cure whatever is going on, even if it/you start feeling better. If you start it, finish it. Know your allergies, and I'm assuming the doc would go over it with you prior to prescribing, but know what youre allergic to and if said antibiotic is a family member of that class. Storing these somewhere out of sunlight/damp conditions will keep them in shape, even putting them in another container with a desiccant would be of huge help. Realistically you can use most antibiotics past their expiration for well beyond what the bottle says, the efficacy starts to drop off after a few years, but I wouldn't jump on the phone the day after said expiration. - Kinda cool this is coming into preparation topics now!! Thanks for the video, Ivan!
That’s what I was thinking. Thank you for posting/typing it all out. 😬 I was going to add that developing antibiotics is expensive and, because of antibiotic misuse/abuse, necessary. Other countries cap prices. If all countries did the same, especially the USA, R&D would plummet and we’d have an even bigger issue.
@@jwchoi9823 1000%, antibiotic research is probably the most crucial tbh. Theres just no money in it, keeps the drive/RnD down.. When they do develop something new, its obviously reserved for when resistances emerge. Resistant bugs are scary af haha.
I was holding my breath repeating, “Please don’t let Vancomycin be in that bag. Please don’t let Vancomycin be in that bag.” Thanks for touching on stewardship and reminding people to finish the full course of their antibiotics.
Wow, very informative video. My question after watching was what is the shelf life? I found this on their website.. How long can the antibiotics be stored for? Most antibiotics will come with a manufacturer’s expiration date between 2 and 3 years from the date of manufacture. To maximize the shelf-life of your medications they should be stored in air-tight containers in a cool, dry environment. Under proper storage conditions antibiotics expiration dates can be extended for a MINIMUM of an additional 5 years. Studies have shown that, when stored in a dry, cool environment, these types of medications retain greater than 90% of their potency after 20 years
This is Awesome!! This should be a part of anyones first aid or bug out kit. The fact you can actually talk to a Doc is a huge plus!! Great find Ivan!!
This is rad. I live in a border town and it’s super common for people here, including me, to go into Mexico to pick up antibiotics for the cheap. I keep my medicine cabinet stocked with most of these.
One trick when trying to get your doc to prescribe you some anti biotics is to tell them you’re going to hike the pacific crest/Appalachian trail for a month or two and will be out of contact with medical help. They may play ball with you then
It depends on the stability of the medication, and the circumstances of where it's stored. In your car or in sunlight? You probably 1/5th the shelf life unless you're in the far north. Antibiotics like amoxicillin and ciprofloxacin can be stored for like 30 years if stored properly (Cool/cold, dry, dark, undisturbed) but that isn't the case across the board for antibiotics or anything. If you are particularly curious and know a little bit about chemistry and why/into what a molecule will break down into, you can reasonably tell if something will be shelf stable beyond its stated expiration date. The less energy you put into any molecule, and the less of the outside environment you expose them to, the longer they will last. edit: an actual pharmacologist could speak on this better, but if you have good data on shelf stability over time, you can reliably adjust your doses to get an actual therapeutic dose. But you need to be smart boi and actually do the work, otherwise you might screw yourself

I use to get a lot of my amoxicillin off eBay that was packaged for fish use only and the crazy thing was I had some my doctor prescribed left and the one for fish were packaged in the same capsule by the same company my doctor prescribed amoxicillin was.
Most Doctors will play ball and prescribe antibiotics, anti-nausea, anti-diarrheal, pain meds, etc if you tell them you travel or spend time in the remote outdoors. I have a PA at a clinic I go to that is a retired Army Special Forces 18D medic. He will prescribe whatever I ask for within reason for my prepping or outdoor travel needs. Many antibiotics can be bought over the counter in veterinarian form and are suitable for humans. Whenever I get a script for anything filled at the pharmacy I ask the staff what the actual expiration date is on the bottle it was dispensed from is. From there many drugs will last years beyond that. Do your homework and save money.

Pro tip from the field: If you take antibiotics afterwards take probiotics or eat foods with good probiotics. C-diff is nobodies friend.
Most definitely. Antibiotics wreck your gut.

I have had numerous MRSA infections and almost died. So antibiotics are extremely important to me. I will definitely check this out.
By using general spectrum antibiotics you increase your risk of getting MRSA again.
pretty excited about this. they just reached out to me and sent me a free kit to check out. I will have a review coming soon as well.
My dad died of a secondary infection related to covid, they refused antibiotics the entire time he was sick.
I hear conflicting things about expiration dates on drugs. Do they actually expire? or is it just that they are less effective

Depends. Some become toxic. Research it for sure.

Great video
I love it but my biggest question is what’s the expiration date on this. Amazing video

No Keflex or Bactrim, the two most commonly prescribed antibiotics out of urgent cares. That's a little...odd.
IMO you'd be crazy not to buy a kit for each member of your family if you can afford it.
