Lonni: "And what do you sacrifice?" Luthen rael: "Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love." "I've given up all chance at inner peace." "I've made my mind a sunless space." "I share my dreams with ghosts." "I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago, for which there's only one conclusion, I'm d*mned for what I do." "My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape!" "I yearn to be a saviour against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet." "What is my sacrifice?" "I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them." "I burn my decency for someone else's future." "I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see." "And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude." "So what do I sacrifice?" "Everything." I liked this show from the start, i decided to gave it a chance and andor didn't disappoint.
My guess is that if he was able to poetically word it like that, he's been CONSTANTLY thinking about it. This wasn't some on-the-spot Kino Loy prison break speech, this was premeditated.
Such a good show and it was kind of nice that for ONCE it didn't focused on lightsabers, the force and cameos of familiar characters. Somewhat similar to Rogue One. It was also about the everyday people and the suffering of said people. While we the audience HATES the Empire most of the time, it was also nice to see some of them actually ACT kind of competent. I do like some of the easter eggs we got but what I cared more about was the world building and the character developments. The thought provoking themes were also interesting. What I also liked about the show was the willingness to use some foul language. While its STILL Star Wars, it felt more darker, gritter and more adult oriented.
The use of some foul language kinda ruin some perspective (almost look like the director doesn't look like he know Star Wars at all) but other than that, I loved it totally
@@KENSHIROez3260 He has admitted that he wasn’t a Star Wars fan, so it makes sense that it didn’t feel like traditional Star Wars. However, it is clear that they did their research on Star Wars.
And honestly, slow =/= boring. I mean, look at Better Call Saul (Which this show has frequently been compared to by fans of both Star Wars and Breaking Bad)
Sigh! It didn't start slow! What is wrong with you people?! I was literally mesmerised from the first scene. There are millions, billions I guess, of people who have been brought up on fast food TV. Good storytelling, world and character building equals slow it seems. I despair for us humans.
@@thedarkknight5239It’s worth the wait as it takes time to produce quality shows. I know it’s hard to wait but I am willing if we get another masterpiece of story telling. But so hard waiting!!
I think, something no ones really talked about, is Luthen's deceptiveness towards Saw Gerrera could be even more reason for him becoming the super paranoid extremist rebel cell we know him to be.
That's what I thought man the dude who cant swim hits me the hardest I'm like out of all people this dude can't swim Jesus shit makes me emotional and I'm a grown ass man lol we need shows like this
Thank you for being honest. Definitely Andor is at equal footing with the Mandalorian. I can't even place it second place because it was so unique as a dark and gritty show and it do so much more.
Mando was amazing, but it did not suck me in and make me feel the way this show did. You can feel the danger from start to finish. Masterpiece of film making. Imagine if gilroy had written the sequels..
@@cosyak3 I’m genuinely surprised how many people like the mandalorian. Every Star Wars show I’ve seen on Disney has been so bland imo. I watched Andor and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to watch it again. Haha.
Its beautiful, mon mothma laundering money, maarva accepting death in exchange for inspiring the real rebellion. Cassian being a badass, sticking it to imps and looking damn fine doin it. Just... *chef kiss*
I hope Disney heard you when you said "They can't give us another book of Boba Fett after this". I agree with the sentiment. The bar has been raised, and there is no going back.
I love the show and found it very refreshing to see a story that was focused around normal people in the galaxy and the struggles that started the rebellion.
Personally I think this show is a masterpiece. The only thing I can criticize about the show is the lack of droids and aliens. I don't think I have ever seen a TV-show that has been so consistently good. Even some of the greatest shows like the Wire and Sopranos had some weaker episodes and inconsistencies. If they can keep up the quality of season one it may turn out to be one of the best shows I've ever watched.
I do think the relative lack of aliens is actually all about Imperial segregation, really. And droids, well, I guess a lot of those places can rarely afford them.
I would put that down to the budget and covid restrictions but I think the show will do a better job in Season 2 as they need to bring in K2SO however on repeat viewings we do see a lot of aliens that are not there just for show but functional.
I am in the midle of a rewatch and if you look closely there are actually a lot of aliens in the background, It's just that only 4 (that I have counted so far) of them interact with the main characters so they end up barely noticeable, blending well in teh background (as opposed to aliens being in-your-face in other Star Wars movies/shows, even when they're not really essential to the scene). The only location without aliens is the Narkina prison, which makes perfect sense.
It destroys the theme of A New Hope. It actually did what all the crybabies said The Last Jedi did. How can people even pretend Rogue One was anything but shameless is baffling.
@@myself2noone??? explain if you could. I always wondered how they got the plans to the Death Star. And always wonder how @one blast to the main reactor and the while thing blows up” or something like that.
As a person whose country is currently undergoing an uprising (and hopefully a full scale revolution) against a cruel dictatorial regime, Andor was too real for me and truly a brilliant and inspiring show.
My opinion simplified: I actually liked a different new take to make a story in Star Wars that is Rogue One, Solo, The Mandalorian and this show because I feel like there is actually a lot more to show in Star Wars universe more than just the Force, Jedi and Sith which is the 'flagship' element of Star Wars franchise but that doesn't necessarily mean Star Wars should be 100% about them
I love Jedi and the Sith. But this was something else. A story told about the regular people who fought not with lightsabers and the force, but with heart, determination and courage against evil.
I was excited for Andor when they first announced it not because of Andor but because I knew its was going to be about the early days of the Rebel Alliance, which is a area that is poorly explored even in Legends.
@@mightheal I'm glad they focused on just a single cell because I don't think rebels would ever be able to do that justice, andor is how u tell that story, I already am not the biggest fan of rebels (good story trapped in bad show) but after seeing andor and how it handled the rebellion it just makes me think of what could've been for rebels
See, I was excited because I heard it was gonna be an espionage show involving Cassian Andor. I was intrigued by the character since ehis first scene, and the potential stories that that kind of character could be used to tell. I was particularly interested because of the writing chops that were announced to be working on the show.
@@mightheal yeah I'm with you. Both tell good stories, but Andor tells the story of how the rebel alliance formed so perfectly. Just a bummer we aren't getting Season 2 until 2024.
Do people remember the time before Luke Skywalker was Luke Skywalker? Before we met him. Then we did, got to know him, began to care, and now he's legendary. How did that happen?? CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENT in a story. THAT is what's happening in ANDOR. Excellent show, and this video is absolutely correct! Well done.
Some incredible writing and delivery in this show. I was constantly impressed with how it could pull me in through a well time and thought out dialogue. Shows tyranny and the fight against it in a very realistic way for being science fiction. Love this show and hope they bring us more like it!
Guys there have been some legit legendary speeches and killer dialogues here, some of which I'll post here for everyone, as I loved this show so much and took the time to write scenes I enjoyed the most. Thank you in advance for reading. "How? You just walk in like you belong. Takes more than that doesn't it? What? To steal from the Empire? What do you need? A uniform, some dirty hands and an Imperial toolkit. They're so proud of themselves, they don't even care. They're so fat and satisfied, they can't imagine it. They can't imagine what? That someone like me would get inside their house, walk their floors, spit in their food, take their gear. The arrogance is remarkable isn't it? They don't even think about us(...) These days will end Cassian Andor. The way they laugh, the way the push through a crowd... the sound of that voice, telling you to stop, to go, to move. Telling you to die. Ring in the ear doesn't it? But they'll think about us soon enough. Soon enough they'll have something else to listen to." "I've spent a great deal of time thinking about this conversation, Tay. I want to tell you something that only three people in the Galaxy know about. Why would you want to do that? Because I need your help. And I'm hoping I can trust you. Is this personal or political? Political. Then I'd suggest you hesitate. Why? Like I said, we've both changed. I've done more than grow weary of the Empire. I'm afraid you'd find my politics a bit strong for your tastes. Your world is inescapably linked to the Empire. You're with these people all the time. I'm not sure you're aware how far afield some of us have take our political allegiances these days. Sorry, I think I've had too much of Perrin's Embassy Punch. Drink up. Drink up Tay, and keep smiling, as if we're having a happy chat about our childhood days. I'm not sure I understand. No, you don't. What you see, what people say about me, it's a clear picture, isn't it? I'm a polite, sometimes indecisive senator who spends her days fighting and failing to protect separatist do-gooders and battle Empire overreach. An irritation, as you've so harshly put it. I've made you angry, I... No, no, you've set me free. I've been wondering all day how I could be sure of confiding in you. I don't know what we're talking about. It's a lie. The Mon Mothma people think they know, it's a lie. It's a projection. It's a front. Smile. I've learned from Palpatine. I show you the stone in my hand, you miss the knife at your throat. Where is this going, Mon? The Grand Vizier has infiltrated my Separatist Coalition meetings. My driver is an ISB plant and reports on my secret humanitarian programs. They know they watch me, and I want that, because as long as everyone thinks I'm an irritation, there's a good chance they'll miss what I'm really doing. What are you really doing? Raising money. I need to access my family accounts. Until recently, I was able to dip in and out of my family fortune without concern. That's changed. I need help. Raising money for what? I'm forming a Chandrilan charitable outreach program. I'll ask you to be chairman. It will involve visits here to Coruscant. It will appear to be another of my benevolent and useless irritations. I've explored the alternatives, you're my best shot. You haven't answered my question. And I won't. You're better off not knowing. Or perhaps you'd find my politics a bit strong for your taste. Perrin's on his way over. He knows none of this, he's not to be trusted. Smile."
"Mr. Blevin. Sir. I sense something eager in you this morning. Am I mistaken? No, sir. And at risk of repeatition, you are correct. Good news, is it? I'm afriad not. I wish to lodge a charge against a fellow supervisor. Proceed. I believe our Sector Protocols, as being described in the ISB Code of Conduct, are being violated by Supervisor Meero, and that this overreach, for which she was previously reprimanded, risks compromising Imperial safety to a degree that silence is no longer possible. You think this forum appropriate? I do. It's a serious charge. I believe you'll share my sense of urgency. Supervisor Meero, do you mind having your integrity ventilated in public? No, sir. Supervisor Blevin obviously finds my conduct a more interesting subject than the advancement of integrated Imperial Security. He's put a lot into it. I'm curious to hear his insights. This is Ferrix, is it not? Yes, sir. Your Sector, there was an unusual piece of naval equipment recovered. Meero wanted your crime reports. You determined her request was out of order and in violation of the chain of command. That's not accurate. You advised me to reinforce my suspicions with data and to be careful in my work going forward. Careful? Is that your defense? You've been careful? I'd be curious how many people at this table would think it "careful" that you've found a way to access our Sector data without ever filing a request. Is that true, Dedra? Yes. I used the Imperial Emergency Act in the wake of Aldhani to gather data across multiple Sectors without official sanction, but that is the wrong question. I'd like to know if anyone here believes the Rebellion plans its actions around the artificially constructed boundaries of our Sectors. Major Partagaz created those Sectors. As organizating principles, not personal playthings. Do you really think the rebels care about the lines we draw on maps? You think the relevance of my work has been supplanted? Systems either change or die. Sir. Thesis, please. There is a focused organized Rebel effort to acquire highly restricted Imperial military components. Your evidence? By accessing unfiltered Sector Crime Reports I can now prove a link between the theft of our most secret equipment and its distribution to rebel groups across the galaxy. This is hard, verifiable data, you are prepared to present? Yes, sir. I believe Supervisor Blevin is aware I have a documented file ready to go. I believe his accusations here this morning have more to do with self-preservation than any sense of urgency. What is more urgent than a renegade intelligence officer? Imagine if everyone in this room played as loosely with the rules as you. Excellent suggestion, Blevin. I'm wondering where we'd be right now if everyone here showed the same endeavor as Supervisor Meero. I'll have to think about that. For the moment I'm reassigning the Morlana Sector to Supervisor Meero. Ferrix is of great interest to her and has clearly become a distraction to you. I see no urgent problem, but as always, I salute the provocative exchange of ideas." "What do you think you're doing? Excuse me? You keep looking around. Just trying to figure out what's going on. You're a part of it? Part of what? Don't play dumb. No, I'm on my way to the store. You need to back up. Stand right there. You look like you're sweating. Well it's hot. Or you've been running. Why would I be running? Because you're a part of it. Part of what? I'll ask the questions. I can wait for you here if you want. Friends of yours? What? You heard me. Wait, no, I don't know anybody here, I'm just a tourist. Tourists don't run. But I'm not running. You got that right. That window's shut. I'm just going to the store, it's right there! You need to calm down, sir. Droid assistance, please. What, wait... what is he? This is crazy! Hang onto this one for me. I wanna check the shelter. He said hang? No, no, no, you misunderstand. No, he meant watch. Hang? No, no, he means watch. Hang. Tell him... tell him you meant watch!"
"The senator from Chandrila stands with those in opposition to the Emperor's new public order legislation. Is there a more important issue facing this body right now than Imperial overreach? The Public Order Resentencing Directive is the next step on an all too predictable march towards complete, unchallenged authority. Our first responsibility is to the citizens who have sent us here. Our second vow is to protect the power and independence of this remarkable chamber. I stand here today to speak with senators who've come with open minds, those of you who still believe that when we enter this building we are in a temple." "You've been searching my room again. It's called cleaning. I like a tidy house. You've been in my private box. I have ways of knowing. I find you a job, I press your uniform, I prepare you two meals a day, I move mountains to scrape you off the floor and put you back on your feet, and what do I reap? What is the return on my investment? We were talking about you snooping on me. The shadow of a son, a tenant, a stranger. That's new, you'll wanna remember that. All that time away on Morlana. What if I'd let your neglect drive me insane? Imagine that. Look back just months ago when you could easily ignore me. Imagine I'd cracked under the weight of your neglect. Imagine I'd cracked and wasn't here now to pick up the pieces. I've been promoted." "My name is Kino Loy. I'm the day shift manager on level 5. I'm speaking to you from the command center on level 8. We are at this moment in control of the facility. How long we hang on, how far we get, how many of us make it out, all of that is now up to us. We have deactivated every floor in the facility. All floors are cold. Wherever you are, right now, get up, stop the work, get out of your cells, take charge, and start climbing. They don't have enough guards, and they know it. If we wait until they figure that out, it'll be too late. We will never have a better chance than this, and I would rather die trying to take them down than giving them what they want. We know they fried a hundred men on level 2. We know that they are making up our sentences as we go along. We know that no one outside here knows what's happening, and now we know that when they are saying we are being released, we are being transfered to some other prison to go and die, and that ends today! There is one way out. Right now, the building is ours! You need to run, climb, kill! You need to help each other. You see someone confused, someone who's lost, you get them moving and you keep them moving until we put this place behind us. There are 5000 of us. If we can fight half as hard as we've been working, we'll be home in no time! One way out! One way out! One way out!" "Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion, I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!"
"The ISB knows Kreegyr's plan. They'll be waiting for him. And how do we know this? I won't tell you that. And Kreegyr, he doesn't know. And how do you know I won't tell him? I don't, I don't know what you'll do. It's far from ideal for either of us. You're willing to burn him. You're the random factor. It's thirty men! Plus Kreegyr. So you know he's doomed! Which means you're either ISB, or you have someone inside that you're protecting. Or I'm just a very good listener. You think it's loosing Kreegyr? I did. I'm not sure right now. What if it was me instead of Kreegyr? What would you do? Kreegyr doesn't know me. I'm not vulnerable if he's captured. Surely you've met him. I've met him, I've been in a room with him, but he doesn't know that. We send people, we drop supplies, we have special radios. He can't hurt me. Like I can. It's your decision, Saw. It's your decision. But know the choice. Do we let Kreegyr go down, and play the long game, or do we warn him, and throw away a source that's taken years to cultivate? You have people everywhere, don't you? You're avoiding the question. All of your sources... Try to concentrate. There's someone with Kreegyr? Someone at ISB? Maybe there's someone here, with me! You're wasting time. Why wouldn't you? You're avoiding the choice. Who is it? Who is it?! It's Tubes. What is this? Nonsense! He's my man. He tells me everything. Tell him, he deserves to know. What is this? He's lying! I have only allegiance to you! What kind of game is this? *pulls Tube's blaster and aims it at Saw* There's no way out alive. Of that you must be sure. I'm doing this so you'll listen. So listen. Kreegyr goes down, the ISB will feel invincible. They'll feel untouchable. We'll have a clear field to play. The alternative, Kreegyr pulls out, we wave him off. They'll know they'll have to wonder. They'll trust nothing. Just like you're doing right now. If I were ISB Saw, why wouldn't I just send you out there, with him? I didn't want to have you make this choice. Thirty men. Plus Kreegyr. For the greater good. Call it what you will. Let's call it... war." "There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try." "My name is Maarva Carassi Andor. I'm honored to stand before you. I'm honored to be a Daughter of Ferrix and honored to be worthy of the stone. Strange... I feel as if I can see it. I was six, I think, first time I touched a funerary stone. Heard our music, felt our history, holding my sister's hand as we walked all the way from Fountain Square. Where you stand now, I've been more times than I can remember. I always wanted to be lifted. I was always eager, always waiting to be inspired. I remember every time it happened, every time the dead lifted me... with their truth. And now I'm dead. And I yearn to lift you. Not because I want to shine or even be remembered. It's because I want you to go on. I want Ferrix to continue. In my waning hours, that's what comforts me most. But I fear for you. We've been sleeping. I've been sleeping. We've had each other, and Ferrix, our work, our days. We had each other, and they left us alone. We kept the trade lanes open, and they left us alone. We took their money, and ignored them, we kept their engines churning, and the moment they pulled away, we forgot them. Because we had each other. We had Ferrix. But we were sleeping. I've been sleeping. And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face. There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it's here. It's here, and it's not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep. It's easy for the dead to tell you to fight, and maybe it's true, maybe fighting is useless. Perhaps it's too late. But I'll tell you this... If I could do it again, I would wake up early and be fighting these bastards...from the start! Fight the Empire!" And last but not least, for whoever reached down here (thx tho, took me like two hours to hand type everything above) "I saw a camera in the previous episode and there were screws in the wall"
I want to rewatch it again so bad but I don’t want it to be special. I’m going to try to wait to watch around this time next year. We shall see if I can resist.
i can’t explain how much i adored this show! i’ve rewatched it already and i’ve watched certain scenes and monologues half a dozen times! this show made me feel like i did when i watched the original trilogy as a kid~ full of awe and like a fire was lit in my stomach! i’m so glad that you guys, as a prequel channel primarily, loved it too! and don’t get me wrong, i love the prequels! and the clone wars are my favorite era of star wars, but andor is some of the best television i’ve seen period, and i feel so happy to be here for it!
I had the same opinions with the likes of The Exorcist III, Babylon 5, Adventure Time, and even Cowboy Bebop. Good thing the idea of being wrong can be liberating at many certain occasions.
IM SO GLAD someone sees how good this show is not only the plot and story development but the theme and fill of it it’s more gritty more dark but most of all more eye opening it shows what it was like for people who didn’t have force powers who weren’t in some kind of clan of warriors just a person like me and you it’s more realistic when it comes to Star Wars and I love it I also love how they made a character who didn’t have much to him just The guy who helped get the plans for the Death Star but shows him in a more better light and didn’t make him connected to some kind of main character and make Star Wars fill smaller I hope they paint more background characters or shallow characters with better back story’s
I really feel like this and Rouge One are the finest of the Star Wars projects. Both really made it feel like getting to know the endless faces behind both the rebellion and Empire were important.
Andor is so good that it makes me cautious and not as excited for other Disney shows. I like Mando but it clearly clings onto cameos and fan service to paper over the cracks. Andor really was something.
Imagine if Andor and Jedi: Fallen Order just blended together. It could have given us the Rebels we all wanted! Whenever Filoni and Favreau get done with Mando season 3, they should take notes from this show and use them in the second season of BoBF. I loved the show already but with that, it could be a LOT better
THANK YOU for bringing up Kotor. It’s literally what I kept thinking of as I watched the show. The depth and tone of Kotor had amazing stories that were just grounded in ordinary life but I felt we’d never see that tone in the franchise ever since Disney bought it. I am so, so happy to be wrong.
Andor is the Galactic Empire as viewed from the ground looking up, not from space looking down. It sets us up for this early on with the flashback to Kenari, when they look up and see the damaged ship about to crash. Any other Star Wars show would have then shown us a big CGI sequence of the ship crashing. But Andor doesn't, because it wants to show us what things look like from the perspective of people on the ground. We have to walk with them until they find the smouldering wreck.
Everything about this show is incredible, from the writing to the acting. The two monologues from Skarsgård and Whitaker? Truly inspired acting and I can't believe such strong performances are coming from a Star Wars series nobody seemed to want. Power doesn't panic.
Nope. Kenobi set the standard, very, very low. Which is why everyone thinks this show is soooo amazing. And no, the other live action shows absolutely will not keep up, we already saw the future of Mando during BoBF and it ain't pretty.
I love how the biggest legacy character of the show was mon mothma. The character I've mostly had to describe as" the red headed lady that let us know a bunch of bothans died in rotj." This show reminded me a lot of twilight company. Just a gritty and realalistic story about the everyday people in the galaxy. Anyone else hoping once season 2 is done they throw another 0 or two on a check and let team Gilroy take a crack the underworld series Lucas always wanted to do? I feel like that could be amazing.
Its literally THE ONLY SW show or SW movie for which the entire story-script (S1+S2) was written before the first production day. A finished concept makes the difference!
Everyone told me a was crazy when I said this show was gonna be great, cuz “nobody asked for it”. Everyone just wanted a show about an already established character. And although is wasnt what I thought it would be, it fuckin blew expectations away. But I knew something about a regular person being recruited as a spy for the early rebellion would be great story telling
Saw the show and loved it. I'm all in with a 10 out of 10. Now, if only Gilroy would publish a completed edition of the manifesto Cassian inherited so we can read it all, front to back.
Because it doesn't specifically have to be a SW property. This story could be re-skinned for lots of different settings but wouldn't lose quality or relatability.
As a Star Wars fan from my early childhood, raised on the Prequel era with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Andor felt like such a breath of fresh air. Its multi-episode arcs reminded me of the more striking Clone Wars arcs; the ones that dug into the characters, their struggles, the darker and messier sides of this galactic war. But it took it to the next level, letting its characters breathe and develop and flourish through INCREDIBLE writing and acting and cinematography. It feels so grounded and authentic and REAL. It's exactly the kind of story Star Wars needs right now. Character driven, understated, and committed to telling a fantastic story without relying on the flash and bang of nostalgia with nothing interesting to back it up.
I do enjoy the Andor series a lot. Even though it does raise the bar high for being a phenomenal series, I would rather put Andor on an equal footing with the Mandalorian series for having a magic of its own. Obi-Wan Kenobi series was maybe a lackluster until the 2nd half of the series, but it has a special place in the story building for A New Hope, all things considered.
The cool thing is that the show DOES explore the various concepts tied to the Force as well. You want a perfect description of what the Force and the Dark Side are? What they represent? Look no further than Nemik’s Manifesto and/or Maarva’s speech.
Do you recall the first trailer for The Phantom Menace? It showed so much promise of weighty, meaningful take on Star Wars. Then the movie came out, and for the next 23 years it's been "not good" and "just good enough" Star Wars managing expectations while enjoying the good bits when they arrived? To me, Andor fulfilled the promise of that first Phantom Menace trailer. A fully adult, fully meaningful Star Wars. I loved it.
I think it was great - really delving into the psychology of the people who are involved in the groups - fascist dictatorships, and the causes opposed to them. Best Star Wars content though? I think that’s too hard to place - there’s just so much wonderful diversity of stories to choose from. I think instead of ranking them, we should simply enjoy them as they are!
This show goes so damn HARD. It's not even a matter of being a good Star Wars show anymore; it's a great SHOW. It is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back, imo.
I think Andor could be the real beginning to the Star Wars universe, followed by rogue one, episode 4,5 and 6 It’s like you don’t actually need the precuels
They've showed that in literally every single star wars production to date. Ignoring that though, important people associate with other important people and they tend to be involved in a lot of important stuff. That's reality.
This is definitely the best piece of Star Wars media to come out of the Disney Era. Dare I say the best piece of Star Wars media since The Empire strikes back. Definitely the best show of the year.
I actually had high hopes for Andor when all the series’ names were released because I love Rogue One so much. It delivered on the depiction of every day life and struggle that I expected but it also delivered so much more!! More about the mundane of the bureaucrats in the empire, more unscrupulous selfish rebels… Thank you for this well thought out video which explained the layers and nuance of what makes this show so great. And you are so spot on about the similarities with our own present world, the prison complex, the bureaucracy and rows of cubicles and let’s face it the slow boil of oppression that isn’t quite uncomfortable enough yet. We can point to the oppression in “3rd world” countries but there’s oppression of middle class labor RIGHT now in countries like the UK and US.
Love this essay, and adore this show. You're right: the plot in Andor is driven by the decisions of the characters, each of whom has complex motivations. And one of the most delicious things to me is the circular relationship of Cassian and Marva. His cynical decision to join raid on Aldhani is the spark that unwittingly turns his mother into a rebel, though she never knew he was the very person who made the raid a success. She in turn makes the epic speech that lights the fire of rebellion on their home planet, a moment he witnesses and is the tipping point for him to become a rebel himself. And without these two very ordinary people, the Death Star would not have been destroyed, and the Empire might not have been taken down. True rebellions are fuelled by the actions of people we will never hear about Incredibly skillful and insightful writing.
Andor reminded me of a quote. "To maintain peace is an arduous task. It requires discipline." Not exactly sure where I heard it but the Empire lacks discipline.
I was also very much unimpressed with the announcement of the Andor show. He was not one of my favorite characters from Rogue One and I did not see how or why he deserved his own TV series. So I was just as shocked when the word started to spread after a few episodes were out that this was something different; that modern Disney Lucasfilm had actually given us Star Wars gold. TH-cam was on fire about how awesome this show was, so by the release of episode 10 I simply had to sit down and start watching. Boy was I shocked; this film was more Star Wars than anything since Clone Wars or Rebels! I loved it right away! I still can't believe how good this is. We are supposed to be stuck in a Twilight Zone of life these days where everything is weird, lackluster, or disappointing. But somehow we were still blessed with this show. Its incredible! I really hope we get more of THIS!
I haven't loved consuming a Star Wars story since the last time I played Knights of the Old Republic 2 in 2012. This is the second-best Star Wars content ever, and it has nothing related to the Force.
first few episodes were a chore - but the rest was utterly captivating. really incredible. i loved rogue one and andor - i gotta say, take out the jedi and all the fantasy and star wars is actually pretty good.
excellent video, i was also uninterested about andor, then seen some of the star wars youtubers praising the early episodes, went to watch it and was very impressed, certainly one of the best star wars show made
"We" I've been wanting a Cassian solo show since Rogue One was released. He's been my favorite since 2016. The amount of shit I got when I would say I was more excited for this than Obi-Wan Kenobi...
So I have seen Andor and it is the best thing to come out since George Lucas. In fact I'd argue it's better than Revenge of the Sith or Empire Strikes back. If nothing else it's better for the sole purpose because it humanized star wars. There are no force wizzards or light sabers. Just basic people living their lives under an oppressive regime. I also love Rogue one but Andor Elevated Rogue One to be my favorite Star Wars movie.
I was honestly excited to hear that Andor was coming out- a peek into the life of an 'everyday' man who gave his life to the rebellion. It far exceeded my expectations, and I'm a bit afraid that the excellent writing, acting and directing may spoil Star Wars for me in the future. I mean, why can't all coming up shows in the SWU be produced to the same level?!?
I was hooked from day one, I love how it feels like you are reading a book, all the details that the Gilroys do is awesome. On a side note I tried watching revenge of the sith and omfg the acting is horrible 😂😂

"I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago, for which there's only one conclusion, I'm d*mned for what I do."

"I yearn to be a saviour against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet."

"Everything."
I liked this show from the start, i decided to gave it a chance and andor didn't disappoint.
My guess is that if he was able to poetically word it like that, he's been CONSTANTLY thinking about it. This wasn't some on-the-spot Kino Loy prison break speech, this was premeditated.
It's a great speech. Unfortunately it isn't earned and we don't even know if it's true.
@@TJDious he made it sound so true.

@@biashacker seriously. I had to stop myself from rooting for her cause she’s imperial .
@@KENSHIROez3260 to be fair, it wasn't overused though. Not like say... in a Rob Zombie movie or something like that.

Sigh! It didn't start slow! What is wrong with you people?! I was literally mesmerised from the first scene. There are millions, billions I guess, of people who have been brought up on fast food TV. Good storytelling, world and character building equals slow it seems. I despair for us humans.

Hi. This is my favorite SW content since Empire and Rogue One. It’s unfortunate that we have to wait 2 more years to conclude this narrative.
We sure it's 2 years?
@@matthewherndon5052 yeah 2024 at the earliest
@@thedarkknight5239It’s worth the wait as it takes time to produce quality shows. I know it’s hard to wait but I am willing if we get another masterpiece of story telling. But so hard waiting!!
Consider the narrative already complete and allow yourself to be surprised at the new details to fill the gap when they arrive.
Worth the wait.
I think, something no ones really talked about, is Luthen's deceptiveness towards Saw Gerrera could be even more reason for him becoming the super paranoid extremist rebel cell we know him to be.

Thank you for being honest. Definitely Andor is at equal footing with the Mandalorian. I can't even place it second place because it was so unique as a dark and gritty show and it do so much more.
@Silver Fox Sports Andor raise the bar high. Mandalorian Season 3 has so much work to do
No! it is not as half as good as Mandalorian is ;)
Hard one I’ve got them tied 1st. Andor was a great show and excellently made but Mando defo was like a fan dream especially for older fans 💯
Agree 💯. It's right up there with Breaking Bad
Started off extremely slow paced.
The fact that it was directly tied to Rogue One is how we knew it was going to be a hit. Rogue One is literally the best star wars film this century.
It destroys the theme of A New Hope. It actually did what all the crybabies said The Last Jedi did. How can people even pretend Rogue One was anything but shameless is baffling.
Rogue One is the best Star Wars film in my opinion too. Not ideal, but still the best.
@@myself2noone how did it destroy the theme?

Luthen Rael is now a top 3 character for me, soooo damn good
As a person whose country is currently undergoing an uprising (and hopefully a full scale revolution) against a cruel dictatorial regime, Andor was too real for me and truly a brilliant and inspiring show.
Are there Farsi (just guessing) subs or do people watch it in English?
You understood the true message of the show! Stand strong comrade, the Revolution cannot be stopped!
@@peterstedman6140 There are subtitles but depends on the person's English level. I myself can watch without any subtitle but many can't.
My opinion simplified: I actually liked a different new take to make a story in Star Wars that is Rogue One, Solo, The Mandalorian and this show because I feel like there is actually a lot more to show in Star Wars universe more than just the Force, Jedi and Sith which is the 'flagship' element of Star Wars franchise but that doesn't necessarily mean Star Wars should be 100% about them
I feel the same about The Bad Batch. I think it's a nice perspective seeing how Clone Wars veterans fare in a post-Order 66 galaxy.
Rebels did a decent job at focusing on a specific group of rebels and glimpses at the wider rebellion taking hold.
@@tailssonicteam1604 That's what I was disappointed with Rebels they only focused on a single cell and not the Alliance as a whole.

Soon enough they'll have something else to listen to."
"I've spent a great deal of time thinking about this conversation, Tay.
I see no urgent problem, but as always, I salute the provocative exchange of ideas."

Fight the Empire!"
And last but not least, for whoever reached down here (thx tho, took me like two hours to hand type everything above)
"I saw a camera in the previous episode and there were screws in the wall"
That was awesome 👏
Mon delivered that scence with ice in her veins!
I’ve watched Endor start to finish 3-4 times. It is by far, one of my favorite shows.
Me too!
I want to rewatch it again so bad but I don’t want it to be special. I’m going to try to wait to watch around this time next year. We shall see if I can resist.
@@EJD339 - To me, Andor is special each and every time I watch it - and I have viewed the entire series at least five times.
i can’t explain how much i adored this show! i’ve rewatched it already and i’ve watched certain scenes and monologues half a dozen times! this show made me feel like i did when i watched the original trilogy as a kid~ full of awe and like a fire was lit in my stomach! i’m so glad that you guys, as a prequel channel primarily, loved it too! and don’t get me wrong, i love the prequels! and the clone wars are my favorite era of star wars, but andor is some of the best television i’ve seen period, and i feel so happy to be here for it!
I had the same opinions with the likes of The Exorcist III, Babylon 5, Adventure Time, and even Cowboy Bebop.
Good thing the idea of being wrong can be liberating at many certain occasions.
You got good taste
Both really made it feel like getting to know the endless faces behind both the rebellion and Empire were important.
literally this show is so underrated one my friends was like its too slow and i was like i promise its so good
it is extremely highly rated, every week all the usual sites would get flooded with 5star reviews.
And then I was like totally and then he was like right on and then we like went and had like some lunch and it was like amazing.
Andor is so good that it makes me cautious and not as excited for other Disney shows. I like Mando but it clearly clings onto cameos and fan service to paper over the cracks.
Andor really was something.
Andor is the best show...live action. It was emersive. Got me back in to the galaxy:) there's hope!!
The writing alone was top tier. Then the actors, then the music, then the production. I've seen it twice now and it still feels amazing!! ❤
Andor is real. So real that it’s breathtaking ❤️
I absolutely LOVED Andor! I CAN NOT wait for season 2!!!
I've totally fallen in love with this series!
Watch this entire show in one sitting, it was so well written but also well directed! Everything about it was amazing.
I’m inclined to agree with you. I ever thought anything would top clone wars for me.
I was pumped from the first time I heard of it, I thought it would be awesome to see the darker side of the rebellion
The best part of Andor was from the start of episode 1 to the end of episode 12
Well said, I couldn't agree more what a show only problem is we have to wait ages for the next season 👏👍
I would love to see you a clone wars era series similar to this digging more into how the Droid occupations worked without the Jedi
Forget Clone Wars or SW, Andor S1 is on the level with seasons of Breaking Bad, The Wire, Mad Men, Chernobyl etc... A true masterpiece.
This sets the standard. I hope all other live-action series can keep up.
Andor was so good. Great show.
i waited for the end to judge it unlike everyone else and was not disappointed
I actually agree that Andor is my favorite series or live action so far to date.
It seriously is so good. Top teir Star Wars hands down, and probably the best Disney Star Wars project bar none.
Best star wars show, period. This NEEDS to be the standard going forward
People have been asking for grittier and more grounded Star Wars stories, and boy did they deliver with this show. Fucking fantastic.
Its literally THE ONLY SW show or SW movie for which the entire story-script (S1+S2) was written before the first production day. A finished concept makes the difference!
Dude, it is the BEST Star Wars ever. No qualifier. Without any nostalgia Andor even makes ESB look like a bad kids movie from the 80's.
Nah bro, I wanted a show about the Guardians of the Whils if we're taking something from Rogue One.
Not some random spy's backstory.
@@bot_Est1989 well he’s more interesting than the guardians of the whils, who never even left Jedda
@@Grand_History are you having a stroke?
@@GODCONVOYPRIME you tell me you’d be more interested in a story that only takes place on jedda
Andor: It's either fight or win or fight and die. The choice is yours.
You say that like it's a good thing. The show comes across like its embarrassed to be Star Wars.
The Prison Arc is like the Umbara or the Maul-Death Watch/Siege of Mandalore arc of Andor.
I was looking forward to it cause it’s Star Wars but it blew away my expectations harder than Alderaan
Luther Rael: *makes his monologue*
new literally me unlocked
I loved it.
I've told my friends it's better than mando and they scoffed at me. It's Star wars the way we all want, and deserve to see it.
It's not.
Not a high bar to clear.
@@TJDious It is
I think it was great - really delving into the psychology of the people who are involved in the groups - fascist dictatorships, and the causes opposed to them.
I actually was quite excited when I first heard it was coming out
I think Andor could be the real beginning to the Star Wars universe, followed by rogue one, episode 4,5 and 6 It’s like you don’t actually need the precuels
The BEST EVER streaming series I've seen so far on Disney. The writing, directing, acting everything is first-class.
Andor hits you with feelings.. "I can't swim". "Where's M..m..maarva?" 😢
Andor is amazing. It’s about time they showed that there’s more in the galaxy then just Sith, Jedi, lightsabers, the force, and some
Mcguffin child.
They've showed that in literally every single star wars production to date.
Ignoring that though, important people associate with other important people and they tend to be involved in a lot of important stuff.
That's reality.
Agreed. It was a delightful surprise!
Get the keys to the kingdom back from Jon Favreau and give them to Tony Gilroy. 😉👌🏼💙
Fantastic assessment on Andor (and a lot of other SW content too).
This is definitely the best piece of Star Wars media to come out of the Disney Era. Dare I say the best piece of Star Wars media since The Empire strikes back. Definitely the best show of the year.
“Oh how wrong we were” is the perfect sentiment for Andor
Andor sure brought the old saying to light again - Never judge a book by it's cover! LOL
I actually had high hopes for Andor when all the series’ names were released because I love Rogue One so much. It delivered on the depiction of every day life and struggle that I expected but it also delivered so much more!! More about the mundane of the bureaucrats in the empire, more unscrupulous selfish rebels…
Thank you for this well thought out video which explained the layers and nuance of what makes this show so great.
To be fair, I had absolutely interest in any new star wars media project and that hasn't changed
Lol I think you forgot a "no" in that sentence there champ.
Excellent analysis and synopsis of Andor Season 1. This show has set the bar extremely high for future SW stories. Thanks.
Andor: Not what we wanted, but absolutely what we needed.
Andor reminded me of a quote. "To maintain peace is an arduous task. It requires discipline."
Not exactly sure where I heard it but the Empire lacks discipline.
Andor felt like star wars legends novels slow detailed and awesome
Andor feels very much like a novel made into a movie, pushed forward by world-building and characters rather than action.
This is the second-best Star Wars content ever, and it has nothing related to the Force.
first few episodes were a chore - but the rest was utterly captivating. really incredible. i loved rogue one and andor - i gotta say, take out the jedi and all the fantasy and star wars is actually pretty good.
excellent video, i was also uninterested about andor, then seen some of the star wars youtubers praising the early episodes, went to watch it and was very impressed, certainly one of the best star wars show made
Andor is an awesome show! I look forward to additional content that is as well-made and as well-thought-out.
What I hope that someone does a breakdown on : The Music/Score.....God, it just got INSIDE of you....Haunting and yet Majestic at once!
"We" I've been wanting a Cassian solo show since Rogue One was released. He's been my favorite since 2016. The amount of shit I got when I would say I was more excited for this than Obi-Wan Kenobi...
Obi Wan Kenobi: That show(The Mandalorian) is our only Hope.
Master Yoda: No. There is another(Andor).
I mean, why can't all coming up shows in the SWU be produced to the same level?!?
if they keep raising the bar like this, we may never be able to go back to Jedi and Lightsabers.
I was hooked from day one, I love how it feels like you are reading a book, all the details that the Gilroys do is awesome. On a side note I tried watching revenge of the sith and omfg the acting is horrible 😂😂
I was laughing like Luthen after the heart when I saw the opinion on this show turn around
First SW since clone wars I could actually watch from beginning to end.
