Note: I did hear back from Brian about the OEM for the Derecho, which is in fact Reate. I mention it a couple times early on without any notes, but I did add a couple notes about this when I bring it up further into the video. Also, I feel like I was a bit harsh on one of my all-time favorite knives, the Apex. I wouldn't go so far as say it was a "bomb", but it definitely didn't sell out like many other SBD models do. If you're interested, you can grab one right now brand new for as low as $270, or they sell used for fair prices, too. And when I mentioned I could talk for hours about the Apex clip, I meanI could go on about how much the ergos improve when you sand down the pocket clip And the detent, though not as snappy in my opinion as the Typhoon series, is still phenomenal & a bif reason why I love the Apex so much! I own two of them, one with timascus inlays, as well as the Furious Fuchsia inlays, so yes I'm a fan of the model!
Do you think the tip could break if I was to just open boxes with this knife? Is there a hot spot on the clip? I know you said it’s very good compared to the apex
There's no hot spot from the clip at all, just like with the Evo Typhoon series. This would absolutely slay box opening, almost feels purpose-built for it! But your just want to watch how much leverage you put on the tip. It definitely doesn't feel dainty, it just does compared to the tips on most knives out there. If you're mindful when using it, it'll be fine I'm certain.
Hey man! Love that knife. Considered picking one up but I went with a hinderer instead lol. Hey where the hell did u come from? Uve got an amazing collection and u know ur shit. Did u just launch ur channel or did u switch from another name? I don't recognize ur voice but that's not saying much.
You know, I've still never Even handled any Hinderer, isn't that ridiculous?? And they're in my home state of Ohio! I just can't get into knives that large & heavy. But I'll absolutely never say never! Thanks for the kind words! I started to get pretty serious and some nice collecting 4 years ago tomorrow, actually, on May 21, 2020 when my true mental illness kicked off when I bought my first knife over $200 out of nowhere (a UTX-70, which I really liked but I wanted to experience more stuff and wasn't making a lot of money at the time, so I sold it on Reddit (Knife Swap). That's where I discovered the online knife community and began buying, selling, and trading knives. I have over transactions there now 😆 So that's a big part of why I've gained some good knowledge over the past 4 years! I guess my other qualification would just be that I mod a fair number of knives in a variety of ways. I don't have a shop, just some basic tools literally in my bedroom, but I feel like I get pretty good results. And knowing the ins and outs of how everything fits together, and how to add things that should have been there in the first place like a detent ramp, just helps me understand better what I do and don't like. Also, knowing what tis like to sharpen hundreds of knives helps with understanding how different steels feel in sharpening & use. I do not claim however to be any kind of free hand expert, as pretty much all my skill resides with fixed angle system, with some exceptions where I feel comfortable freehanding. But I'd love to improve on that skill! I would say my biggest influence has been Jerad & Kara Neeve. I love that Jared gets specific about the little things that can make him break a knife, and what they're like to actually use. And I'm just a nobody, but Jerad has been cool enough to shoot the breeze with me a little, chatting here & there. I'm a recovering addict, which is another reason why Jerad kind of inspires me. All I need to do now is start uploading more than just a couple times a year 😆 But yes, I have The Disease, full tilt banana sandwiches insane-o polka pants for folding knives. And anything I love, I become a sponge for knowledge about. 😀
Respectfully, there would be no way this could be a Bestech made knife. There is no knife from bestech that has the soft rounded curves and contours. Why? Because they aren’t capable. Brian was going to use Bestech for his Chicane model and they totally failed and couldn’t properly interpret Brian’s CAD files in 3D lol. He was only thinking of using them because Reate has long timelines and I believe some of his past other models had some significant delays. But no one can touch Reate as an OEM.
Yes, I remember him talking about this, & you could see the issue with the Chicane prototype. I kept waffling when taking about it because I didn't want to presume anything, just to be sure haha 😀

Great review man. Cannot wait for mine to arrive tomorrow. Brian’s designs are among my favorite at any price point.
I really really like how he does the screws on the inlays. Makes it so much easier to add aftermarket scales
That was a great review on this ..excellent..just subscribed 🎉
That's a beaut!

I've found the level of genuine knife knowledge to be inversely proportional to sub count...
