Thank you for a Fascinating podcast. One Friday morning When I was in Brunoy someone stole the cleaners purse. Me and my chavrusa were laughing about it. Itche called me over and threw me out on the spot. I ended up staying in a hotel in Paris for two weeks until they allowed me to come back!! This episode has been eating me up my entire life and I am still not over it and I don’t think I ever will get over it!
There is an urgent need for a more comprehensive evaluation of the story of Reb Nissan that was shared in this video. Reb Avrohom Mayor’s defence doesn’t seem to stand up and certainly isn’t reassuring at all. One needs to ask the question as to what is the value of Reb Nissan’s davening for 7 hours a day only to loose his temper when a young 17 year old challenges his authority. My take on this would point to the inadequacy of intense spiritual practice when it isn’t coupled with deep psychotherapeutic work on the root causes of their anger. As was mentioned in the interview, without having a healthy dose of self love no amount of davening is going to help. In my Chabad experience there is quite a lack of self love, especially among the older generation who were my Mashpi’im and Roshei Yeshiva. In retrospect they were and probably still are quite damaged goods. I also wanted to make mention of the crucial need to apportion blame where it belongs in order to then be able to move on from the feeling of victim to independence.
This is so relatable. The expectations are overwhelming.

Lack of self esteem is not bittul. Lack of ego is.
