The Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel is one of the most beautiful churches in Madrid and is located in the Centro district. It is a creation of the best Italian Baroque of the 18th century, built at the impulse of the queen
Isabel de Farnesio between 1739 and 1746.
The architectural project is by the Italian Giacomo Bonavia, although it is based on a previous project by Teodoro de Ardemans. Bonavia directs the construction of the basement of the crypt, the basement of the church, the six chapels of the nave with their pilasters, the wooden roof and the façade.
The façade integrates several sculptural ensembles. The allegories of Charity, Faith, Hope and Strength, made by Roberto Michel and Nicolás Caresana, adorn the two upper bodies. In the upper part of the entrance door, there is a bas-relief showing the Martyrdom of Saints Justo and Pastor.
The access to the temple takes place through a small vestibule with large wooden doors and the original fittings from 1740. As in other churches, the interior is covered with stucco imitating marble and gold. The building has a Latin cross plan and there is only one nave with six chapels distributed on both sides. The transept has two others, one on each side, and one more on the left side, next to the entrance.
The lateral pilasters were arranged obliquely with respect to the central axis of the nave to generate greater width in the building. The vault is inspired by the vaults that the architect Guarino Guarini had made
in the temple of San Felipe Neri, in Turin, in the 17th century. It can be clearly seen that it is shaped like a cross.
On the sides there are a total of 7 chapels, which increase by two more if we count those found at both ends of the transept. The presbytery also stands out a lot, with special mention to the canvas, which pays homage to the owner of the church.

Una pregunta amigo,si viajar es lo tuyo por qué no sales nunca de Madrid?
Digamos que ahora mismo no se dan las condiciones para hacerlo... Lo tengo en mente desde hace tiempo pero me resulta imposible 😐
Llamas retablos neoclásicos a retablos que son claramente barrocos, cuidado con esa información.
Según me documenté, no puedo hacer nada al respecto
Y como todas las iglesias de Madrid sus frescos ennegrecidos, no se ve nada.
Toda la razón, y mala iluminación. Eso pasa en varias iglesias del centro, una pena.
