Gin man, Gin is what goes into a Martini. It's all good really, but you really should try one with Gin, I'd recommend Tanqueray

Good gin that but, I recommend Gordons. I know it's bottom shelf but if you've tried it you know it's really good. Not to flashy, not to out there just good gin. And yes gin is what goes in a Martini. That is a vodka martini i believe.

Apart from using vodka, and seemingly more vermouth than vodka, Corden absolutely nailed the martini.

Oh Stanley. You KNOW that a real martini ALWAYS uses Gin. With apologies to Commander Bond, there is no such thing as a vodka martini. It is simply a vodka cocktail.

Hey, for you first timers, skip the vodka and use gin. That's a real martini. But be prepared, gin is a totally different styled spirit. It's infused with herbs, so it's very grassy. When you drink a martini, you're looking for a summery, fresh cut lawn kind of flavor. In the winter, a martini is a reminder of springs that have passed and springs to come. You've been warned.
Agreed, vodka is a completely different drink, not really a martini, more a wannabe-tini be cause, oops, I forgot we're out of gin so I'll have to use this colourless, flavourless alcohol stuff that I have left over from a party last year...
Notice ... it's Plymouth Gin, hopefully Navy Strength ...
I take responsibility for giving this a thumbs down.
Stanley Tucci can even make cold watered down vodka look sexy. At least he got the stirring right, though the point of stirring is to preserve flavor... of which there's none if you poured all the vermouth out and just have chilled vodka in there. Vodka has no flavor, so it makes sense that just coating the ice is enough to flavor the drink. This is probably good practice if you're using junk vermouth, but Dolin is good and should never be poured into the sink like that. Here's a better Martini using gin, not vodka, and enough good vermouth to make a real difference:
2 oz. gin (not vodka... most of the flavor comes from this so use whichever you like best)
3/4 oz. dry vermouth (Martini is OK but Dolin or Noilly Prat are better)
2 dashes orange bitters (optional, but a good one)
lemon peel
Pour gin, vermouth (and bitters) into a mixing glass. Fill with ice. Stir gently for long enough to make the outside of the glass cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Fold the lemon peel to spray the oils over the glass (don't rub) and drop it in to garnish. Drink up. You're welcome.
I'm almost 60 years old and have never had a martini. I'm going out to buy a martini set, vermouth, vodka and lemon in 5.. 4 ..3 ...2...

Note the Dolin vermouth from France. Much dryer and more grown up that those sticky sweet Italian vermouths, they’re for children. Tucci knows what he‘s doing.

Hardest part of martini drinking. Just returned from a well know chain restaurant after having a martini. Not bad but got home and made my own. Sooooo much better.
I wanted to see TH-cams of Stanley Tucci cooking, but just about the only "food" videos I can find are of him making alcoholic drinks. I don't drink, I hate alcohol. Will keep searching. All I found so far is marinara and gnocchi.

Tucci is a distinguished and well spoken gentleman ...but with all due respect though, Vodka? Drained Vermouth? ...this is a martini variation not an actual Martini. Proper Martini: in a chilled crystal mixing glass with 1"x1" ice cubes filled to the top add a 1/4 oz high quality dry vermouth (like the Dolin that he is using ...DO NOT throw out the vermouth!!), 2 oz of high quality London Dry Gin (Boodles is awesome) stir diligently, strain into a chilled martini glass or coupe and garnish with a beautiful olive.
