2pac is the GOAT. He made so much music in a short time. Timeless classic songs and albums. Great message and content. Very influential and intelligent. Stood up against violence, racism and poverty. He has songs for every mood your in.
As a Pac fan myself, I cannot understand the Pac hate amongst some of my generation. (I'm 18 years old). He is arguably one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. He was able to tell stories in his rhymes. He was a revolutionary in his own right. If he was still alive, I think he would've made a bigger impact than the impact he currently has.
Aaron Ford I guess people think he's only remembered so fondly because of him being shot. I just can't work out if he would be on the GOAT race if he didn't die, or if he'd have ruined his image doing something fucking stupid.
MCMF you just said if he did something that would dismiss him he had, and still didn't affect his influence. You need to expand your knowledge of music too MF DOOM is good but tyler is fleeting. he won't be around for GOAT convo best believe that.
Marvin Morris yes definitely. Rakim and KRS are definitely GOATs, but Pac is literally the living embodiment of hip hop. Just like how MJ is the living embodiment of pop music.
PAC is THE most important artist in hip hop. Not the best (although you could make a strong argument), not the greatest (again, could make an amazing argument) but the most vital to the genre. Was huge in raps 'golden era' and transcendent as not only a musician but as an individual. If you haven't already PLEASE go listen to his music. Analyze it. Watch his interviews and read books about him, new stories, testimony from friends/family. The man is an icon
Darrel Be im in soms part of africa ...close to nature cut of from the world and i still get inspired by pac more than anyone else....anyone....thats what we call greatest..... when you get introduced to him....theres no stopping...you just wanna find more and more about him....i relate to his lyrics

I have seen so many people inspired by this man is mind blowing, including myself. He made music i can relate to, music that not only teaches me but makes me stronger.
SHOGUN MMA yep but Nas was inspired by pac later on or on that point. He even used pac's instrumentals like Street Dreams that has All Eyez On Me instrumental and in God's son he even has Thugz Mansion and make numerous references to pac.

Hey Justin, ever considered doing a piece on the effects of mental health in the rap/hiphop world? You’ve touched on the subject a few times in past breakdowns, but I think it could be an interesting subject for a whole breakdown. I mean just look at the effects it has on cats like Kid Cudi, DMX and Kevin Gates, let alone all the other artists who’ve struggled with addiction, depression, stress, and anger management. P.S., I know you’re probably getting a TON of breakdown suggestions, so I just want to make sure you understand that you should be doing the pieces that YOU want to do, not us. At the end of the day, everyone here is going to love whatever breakdown you post, so you might as well do the ones that you’re genuinely interested in/passionate about. Keep up the quality content!
What I love about Tupac: he wrote songs about love, lust, hate, and racism and thugs could and did listen to it. He truly transcended the subgenres of hip hop and had mass appeal during the most competitive era of hip hop. Legendary!
Tupac is the 🐐 because of his diversity. This man can make thoughtful songs like "Keep Ya Head Up" and turn around a make party song like "How Do You Want It." His ability to make hit records and create thought envoking songs put him levels above every other rapper. Hip Hop isn't just about lyricism, the struggle, partying, etc. It's a combination of all these things. Its the culture. It's what bring us as black people together. Pac is one of the most diverse rapper that Hip Hop has ever witness. No one compares to him because of his diverse ability. I like to listen to thought provoking music, but at the same time I like to jam and have a good time too. Stop limiting Hip Hop to one aspect.
Son of Knowledge Kendrick also has diversity, but he's always instantly ruled out in terms of the GOAT talk. I personally don't think he's the GOAT, but I don't see how he isn't in the race, on the same level as Pac.
Pac, we love you and miss you. You will never know the profound impact you have on most of your fans' lives. Your music has gotten me through a lot of shit.
Tupac's best album is 'Makaveli Tha Don: 7 Day Theory'. FIGHT ME. It's his most audacious, most daring, lyrically lethally, iconic records (Me & My Girlfriend, Hail Mary, To Live & Die in LA, Blasphemy, Against All Odds), done in 3 days, best posthumous album release all time
Darrel Be The urgent and unapologetic nature of the album and of Pac himself makes the album literally sound like 2pac was about to die, which creates a sort of haunting quality to it, and certainly makes it my favorite Tupac album ever. So I completely agree bro ( At least I think you're a bro)
People gotta know that Pac wasn't just a rapper he was a revolustionary, a political activist he fought for black people back in the day, he was a leader man his mom was a black panther activist that nigga did alot of shit at a young age, Tupac has always been and always will be an iconic character.
Mr E Man to be addicted to the microphone like a heroin fiend, I'll tell you one thing... you'll never catch me fronting as I proceed to give the people what they wanting...

Well said. Tupac belongs in Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame just like Run DMC and the others who got their spot right now. I think DMX and Eminem should get their spot as well. Hip-Hop Hall of Fame is absolutely necessary but not only for the rappers. DJ, producers, graffiti writers, B-Boys and -Girls should be able to get their spot too.
2pac hit you in every which direction you never knew what way he was coming from on a record he touched on all 10 basic human emotions in his music i.e Fear, Anger, Sadness, Joy, Disgust, Trust, Anticipation, Surprise, Remorse and Love. Most rappers only one or two dimensional 2pac had layers of versatility.

Justin, this is THEE BEST music commentary show!!! I would like to suggest a breakdown topic: Lupe Fiasco is the GOAT of this generation. He's done it all, and has worked with and is accepted by all different types of artists across the spectrum. And he even protested Obama while everyone else was singing his praises. He's not afraid of anything, and I think Tupac would appreciate his work. Lupe...THE GOAT!

Why do people keep comparing our "fast food" rappers of today to the "restaurant" rappers back in the day? I mean, it just doesn't make any sense to compare Lil Yachty to someone like Tupac, Nas, and Biggie. You need to compare our greats today (Kendrick Lamar, Chance, Joey Bada$$) to the greats before them, not our fun, party/club rappers.
Exactly, Lil yachty is in a totally different lane. He's not even tryna make "hip hop" as it's traditionally thought of. He's just making fun positive music. Pisses me off when people try and project these expectations onto him that he never even set out to do.
Would be awesome to see some producer GOAT pieces in the future. A producers influence to certain careers cannot be forgotten when we remember some of the great rappers.
Tupac is still relevant. and all of this is proof, the mark of a Real Icon. so when da New Jacks earn this right then i'll listen to all the haterade. until then study the greats and be greater

he's not asking about 500 years from now. Is Kanye or Shakespeare more influential right now? Also, I don't think what children revise is a good measure of influence

Fuckoff yes I know that he was honoring him, but what people was complaining about was his tight pants and top......T.I always honor and rep Pac and I respect that.
I think defining Rock N' Roll is very important. Music considered Rock today is nothing like music from the 50s - 90s, and even those differ massively. I believe Rock N' Roll should tell an important message, and that's what rap music is today. Musicians like Kendrick and Gambino use full bands with guitars and pianos, choirs and more. What really is the difference?
2015 was a year where we had multiple classics in different styles. you had Kendricks Tpab. you mentioned Oddisee, The Good Fight. Milo, So the Flies Don't Come and JGivens Fly Exam. best years of hip hop I experienced since I became a participant fan in 2007
Is there going to be a a Tupac video in the GOAT series? Or maybe even Kanye West GOAT ? love your work and obviously you'll do what you like to do. Anyway keep it up !!!
BIIIIG shoutout to Justin Hunte for mentioning Oddisee--dude is mad talented! I know this as an old head and it's true my generation of hip-hop is/was definitely dope but guys like Oddisee remind me that there are young cats who get it in!
growing up, i listened to Motown, and the blues to put hip-hop into context to be thorough. People nowadays dont do that... and how not context for anything really, its not just music.
2pac is the GOAT. He made so much music in a short time. Timeless classic songs and albums. Great message and content. Very influential and intelligent. Stood up against violence, racism and poverty. He has songs for every mood your in.

I can definitely see the argument for that....But a lot of people are dismissive about Pac because its "old nigga shit"
MCMF you do know he was convicted of rape right???
Force Ghosting lmao and that changes the quality of his music? The only artists I care about outside of music are MF DOOM and Tyler, The Creator.
MCMF you just said if he did something that would dismiss him he had, and still didn't affect his influence. You need to expand your knowledge of music too MF DOOM is good but tyler is fleeting. he won't be around for GOAT convo best believe that.

What really is the difference?
Tupac isn't just local here in America.. Tupac is a global phenomenon..

I love Tupac to life my man...All love and respect long live his memory.
growing up, i listened to Motown, and the blues to put hip-hop into context to be thorough. People nowadays dont do that... and how not context for anything really, its not just music.
