Wow Tiny Turtle, just to let you know how much this resonates: 4 days ago, I got a notice from the county that my property taxes will increase by hundreds of dollars a month. Long story short, I have to sell my house. I fell asleep crying that night, wondering why I always have to face hard times alone. In all my 70 years, no one has ever shown up to help, let alone rescue me. But, just like you said, I woke up the next morning and said “Fine. I’ll do it myself!” And I started planning. I ordered books a while back on how to sell your own house. I’m quite handy and I’m going to go room by room fixing and updating. I have antiques to sell, to finance improvements and also clear out the house. I have finally embraced the Universe’s message: the only person responsible for my life is me! I got this! I’ll do it myself!
@@2blackcatz426 The county does give the homeowner the opportunity to contest their reevaluation figure, and I intend to do that. They’re contending my house went up in value over $110,000 in the last three years, but they are basing that on “comparable” nearby house sales. What they are not considering is houses around me are being bought cheaply by flippers who then fix and resell them at huge mark ups. For example, a house 4 doors down sold for $250,000 in a day to a flipper. He then put up new siding, windows, driveway, and gutted and redid the interior. He then resold it 3 months later for $450,000. NOT comparable to my house! But even then, it is time to move on. We moved here for the schools and our youngest graduated 13 years ago! My husband passed away 4 years ago, and it has taken me this long to start the next chapter. But it is time.
