    I've just begun learning Norwegian, but I am ethnically Norwegian, and speak English, French, and German. I have studied other languages, but I've finally come around to learning what I could consider my language. It's funny, I find it so easy to copy the sounds, but feel like I have cheated by speaking English as my first language, and German as a second. Really loved the video. Your attitude and dry humor really come through in your English, and even copying how you speak English helped me get the Norwegian more correct. Just a beginner now, but really loved this. Still laughing. Thanks brother.

    Do Norwegians even flirt? I heard men there have given up on approaching women at all

    • @SimpleNorwegian
      @SimpleNorwegian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Hahaha. Well, I can't say they are very good at flirting but I don't have too much experience in other countries to compare. As a male I find the girls can often be terrible at flirting, they have been raised on hollywood movies and this weird cultural vibe of 'janteloven' and as a result are terribly passive and afraid of judgment. Especially the most attractive girls often have completely uninteresting personalities due to just relying on their looks. People rely on alcohol and sloppy after-parties for hooking up, and of course we have tinder and other dating apps. You can approach women anywhere of course but it's very unusual any other time than at a nightlife venue, except for in Oslo where it's a bit more common during the day.

    Simple Norwegian, I just read your comment on Tony Wouters' question. So how come Norwegians usually are at the top of "happiest people in the world" surveys?? Having to abide by Janteloven for fear of being socially judged, and therefore flirting not being openly accepted outside of drunk afterparties... I couldn't be happy in your country. I get your culture of hygge and friluftsliv, and your financial security because of oil profits is an important factor. But spite of all of this, I would say you're socially poor because you're not allowed to be yourselves. What's your take on this, as a Norwegian?
