Honestly, you could fill half of this list or more with Twelve's speeches. Peter Capaldi could say more in a glance than most actors can in a monologue, so when he had a chance to give a full speech, it always sets the hair on the back of your neck on end.

    • @WardoTheWeirdo

Or the "man who never would speech" from The Doctor's Daughter. I'm honestly shocked that none of Tennant's speeches made it on this list. I loved Ecclestone's "who I am" speech, but I don't think it comes close to Tennant's speeches, ("man who never would", "I believe in her", "last of the time lords")

  • @ladycplum

Thank you so much for putting the 12th Doctor's speech from The Doctor Falls at number 1. It's beautiful, elegant, heartfelt, and heartbreaking all at the same time. Peter was such an immense presence as the Doctor, and I still miss his interpretation of the role today.

I've always been 100% convinced that Matt was speaking, not only as the Doctor, but for himself as well, when saying, "I'll always remember when the doctor was me." There was a part of him that didn't want to leave at that point, but knew it was the right time, and being able to say as an actor, in character, how much they appreciated playing the role must have been a gift from some acting God.

      @Croftice1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Nah, I think Matt's best speech is Pandorica. People dismiss it, becuase it was a trap set by his enemies, but they fail to see, that the whole reason for the trap was the FEAR of the Doctor. They even feared to kill him, so instead devised a plan to trap him. That makes his speech so powerful. Yes, the Akhaten speech is nice too, but Pandorica is on another level.

Honestly, I feel that Smith’s “Life is a Pile of Good Things and Bad Things” speech from Vincent and the Doctor should have been up there. It’s such a truly heartfelt speech that spoke to me and my especially my partner. We’ve known people who committed suicide, and the speech can help those who are dealing with guilt of not being able to help enough or thinking about what you could have done to stop it.
“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”

My favourite speech of all time is the diamond mountain speech from heaven sent: There's a his emperor, and he asks the shepherd's boy how many seconds in eternity.
And the shepherd's boy says, 'There's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed! You may think that's a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird!’

I'm very partial to the one at the end of Battlefield myself, and honestly I think it's just never really cited as a strong speech because of how short it is. However, it is about a powerful subject (nuclear annihilation), and it ends with, in my opinion, one of the most powerful lines in the entire franchise: "This isn't an war between armies, or a war between nations - Just death, death gone mad! A child looks up into the sky, his eyes turn to cinders -- no more tears, only ashes!! Is this honor?! Is this war?! Are these the weapons we would use?!"

    • @RopeDrink
      @RopeDrink ปีที่แล้ว

That 7th Doc vs Morgaine speech was chopped down for the final edit, hence it's slightly shorter than average. It's a nice speech, but it only works because of Morgaine's sense of honor, so it might seem a bit flat to people who have no idea of what her character is like.

I think David Tennant's speech, in the Doctors daughter episode. Where he says he's the man that never would, and to build this society of human, and Hath on the foundation of a man who never would. Definitely deserved a mention, as one of the greatest Doctor who speeches by the Doctor. But I guess there was only so much time, in the video, you couldn't possibly mention every fantastic speech, by our time traveling hero. Greatest video anyway, well done Ellie. I look forward to the next video, until then Allons-y!!!! 💙

    My two favourites:
"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alters their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit the views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."
    - 4th Doctor "The Face of Evil" (1977)
"Homo sapiens. What an inventive, invincible species. It's only a few million years since they've crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenceless bipeds. They've survived flood, famine and plague. They've survived cosmic wars and holocausts, and now here they are amongst the stars, waiting to begin a new life, ready to outsit eternity. They're indomitable. Indomitable!"
-4th Doctor "The Ark in Space" (1975)
Both a bit short to be called a speech, I know, but both had an indelible affect on me, as a child, and delivered with such passion and conviction by my Doctor and my childhood hero.

I know. I know. I said it would take the force of a total solar system to attract the power away from my ship. We're at the very beginning, the new start of a solar system. Outside, the atoms are rushing towards each other. Fusing, coagulating, until minute little collections of matter are created. And so the process goes on, and on until dust is formed. Dust then becomes solid entity. A new birth, of a sun and its planets. - First Doctor, Edge of Destruction
The 'Daisiest Daisy' speech - Third Doctor, Time Monster

There’s a couple of great ones from the tenth doctor. The obvious one being from blink, and the other being that said to the vashta nerada in the library

I really liked the speech capaldi gave in when he went to the last great frost fair and he was trying to convince the capitalist dude to not feed everyone to a real big fish

That Remembrance speech was good, but it just didn’t have the impact or hope of the shows final words on broadcast television for seven years, “There are worlds out there where the sky is burning. And the sea’s asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there’s danger. Somewhere there’s injustice. And somewhere else, the tea’s getting cold. Come on, Ace - we’ve got work to do!”

This is a great list I think it’s just missing 1 speech in my humble opinion. Matt Smith speech at the end of his first episode when he steeped through David Tennents face and says Ello, I’m the doctor

"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views...which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering." - from The Face of Evil.
"Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember: Hate is always foolish… and love is always wise." - from Twice Upon a Time.
"Homo sapiens! What an inventive, invincible species! It's only been a few million years since they crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenseless bipeds. They've survived flood, famine and plague. They've survived cosmic wars and holocausts. And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life. Ready to outsit eternity. They're indomitable... indomitable." - from The Ark in Space.
"Have a good life. Do that for me, Rose. Have a fantastic life." - from The Parting of Ways.
"I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the Constellation of Kasterborous. I'm 903 years old, and I'm the man who is going to save your lives and all 6 billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?" - from Voyage of the Dammed.
"I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi-gods and would-be gods. I've had the whole pantheon. But if I believe in one thing… just one thing… I believe in her!" - from The Satan Pit.
"I think you just don't care! I don't know if you are here to invade, infiltrate, or just replace us-I don't suppose it really matters now. You are monsters! That is the role it seems you are determined to play, so it seems I must play mine! The man that stops the monsters! I'm sending you back to your own dimension. Who knows? Some of you may even survive the trip." - from Flatline.
"You're not the first to have come here. Oh, there have been so many. And what you've got to ask is, what happened to them? Hello. I'm the Doctor. Basically… run." - from The Eleventh Hour.

Hello, Stonehenge! Who takes the Pandorica, takes the universe. But bad news, everyone... 'Cos guess who?! Ha! Listen, you lot, you're all whizzing about, it's really very distracting. Could you all just stay still a minute? Because I am talking! The question of the hour is, who's got the Pandorica? Answer... I do. Next question, who's coming to take it from me? Come on! Look at me, no plan, no back up, no weapons worth a damn. Oh, and something else, I don't have, anything... to... lose! So if you're sitting up there in your silly little spaceship, with all your silly little guns, and you've got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who's standing in your way. Remember every black day I ever stopped you. And then, AND THEN, do the smart thing. Let somebody else try first.

It always confounds me how similarly the 10th and 11th Doctors move. I know that they are literally one regeneration apart, but it still confuses me, they act quite differently, but they move like twins.
Might just be a benefit to having a different actor for every Doctor.

Pertwee had a Buddhist producer? Ah that explains Planet of the Spiders, not only a Buddhist priest (well a time lord who came to Earth and had spent several regenerations in a Buddhist Monastery in Tibet), but Buddhist concepts & ideas were sprinkled through out Jon Pertwee's final story.
