We’ve never called him “Vietnamese Messi” in Vietnam. Quang Hai is Quang Hai. Get the pressure from the “Messi” part off his shoulder, and let the kid grows.
Football fans label anyone who is the best on a team or country “Messi” it is very stupid. Even if they have no similarity to Messi. The funny thing is quang hais play style is not even close to Messi…he is a creative midfielder. Who CAN be used in most offensive positions like winger, but his best point is not even his scoring. Nor does quang hai even dribble as much as Messi does. Instead quang hai is a technical midfield player with good skill who creates chances and plays. Quang hais assist game is better than his scoring ability. (But nobody in the national team has good finishing) quang hai also happens to have good set piece and long range ability. He’s a player with good vision who creates chances for others with nice passes and scores from long range. Not a player like Messi who dribbles past the whole team and scores.
The only Vietnamese player with a play style that is “Messi like” is Nguyen cong phuong. Which is why viet fans labeled him viet Messi years ago. however the only similarity is that he has a similar playstyle to Messi in the way he likes to dribble. The difference? Cong phuong is 100x worse than messi. Can not finish. Overdribbles. Bad IQ decision making and passing. Over Dribble and lose the ball. Biggest reason he failed in Japan, Korea, and Belgium. And not even a regular starter for national team. I don’t want to hate on cong phuong, but to be honest it is a shame how a player like him can have multiple chances in multiple foreign leagues and leaving at 21, when quang hai is locked up by Hanoi fc until he is 25 before he can play in a better league.
Fans need to learn best player does not = Messi. And dribbling skills does not = Messi. Small and skillful does not = Messi. Not only is it “pressure” it also makes absolutely no sense because the player does not even play like Messi. Quang hais playstyle isn’t even similar to Messi!

Also calling quang hai Messi also hurts him when foreigners look him up because his statistics for even a weak league in Vietnam is 121 appearances with 31 goals for Hanoi fc . Advertise quang hai as “Messi” with those stats and they will think he is bad because they get the wrong idea. 127 appearances and only 31 goals in a weak league top how is this guy messi? THIS GUY ISNT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAIN SCORER. He is mainly a MIDFIELDER. When quang hai steps on the pitch. I do not expect him to score. I expect him to create chances for the team. Who called him “Messi” in the first place? I remember reading some quang hai rumors on Twitter to Metz and some French fan was making fun of how they are signing a “messi” with those type of stats….quang hai is a MIDFIELDER. 😂

@@WOLF-jh4gf incorrect. I don’t know what video you were watching but there are zero v league highlights. This video is full national team from youth to senior. And it includes u23 Korea, u23 Australia, u23 Qatar, u20 France, u20 argentina, Saudi Arabia, which Vietnam is definitely not at all supposed to be on the same level.
Also I agree on his physique not being on the level of ligue 1. Quang hai is very small and weak. But his fitness? He plays 90 minutes almost every match. And especially his technique? What are you talking about? Quang hais technique and touch is better than many L1 players 😂. Do you know how football works? Football takes a combination of skills not just one, so a player can be worse than a player at one thing, but be a better football player overall because they are better at other things. Like how a player can be stronger, better football iq and finishing, can succeed at a higher level than someone with just very good technique. Which is why you see a lot of strong physical African players succeeding over let’s say, Japanese players with way better technique than them. Or Brazilians who never made it big in europe. I know you know how famous Brazilians are for their technique. There are players in Brazilian league with better technique than Europeans. But they lack other skills. This can be applied to quang hai. We don’t know if he is physical enough for ligue 1, so you are correct that ligue 2 suits him better to see if he can adapt. But if you were talking about SKILL and TECHNIQUE ONLY, quang hai is definitely better than many players in top euro leagues.. But again football is many factors. So we must see if He can adapt. And I think he will because quang hai also has good passing and long range/set pieces. Being technical is not his only asset. The only obstacle in the way of quang hai adapting is his physical strength.

@@anhem1446 hoang duc is very talented but watching him he still is not on the level of quang hai. However hoang duc is good enough to play in the top Asian leagues like japan or Korea in my opinion. Maybe Middle East too, as hoang duc is very strong and tall unlike quang hai who is very small and weak. hoang duc though does not have the same IQ, thinking, and even passing compared to quang hai. When I watch quang hai, sometimes i think he is the only one on the Vietnam national team who knows how to play football. You can look at vietnams lost in the 2020 AFF championship for this. 1st leg loss against Thailand, quang hai carried the entire team on his back hitting 2 crossbars and creating so much passes that were all for nothing with bad finishing or unfortunate referee decision. I think he is the only Vietnamese who is actually good enough for a top 5 European league. I already think quang hai is good enough, he just needs to adapt to French football and prove himself at L2 for a higher level later. And it is a big shame hanoi did not let him leave because his level has been superior to Vietnam since 2019. Hoang duc is also above v league level. Viettel however won’t let him go. This is a big problem of Vietnamese football you need to speak about. The long youth team contracts from greedy clubs keeping players until their mid 20s, ruining their career. Vietnamese clubs are ruining the future of players. In the case of quang hai it is very fortunate quang hai escaped to europe before it was too late, even though it is already very late. At the age of 25, quang hais development and huge potential has already been very slowed down and hindered from playing in v league. And hoang ducs development and potential is also being slowed and it may be completely ruined if he does not go abroad soon like quang hai. Quang hai has left for europe. Hoang duc needs to leave for east/west Asia. Before it becomes too late.
I’m my opinion the only 2 Vietnamese players who are capable of succeeding in a higher foreign league is quang hai and hoang duc. Van lam isn’t failing but he is still a bench keeper right now in Osaka. Nguyen cong phuong is a very unfortunate failure who is overrated by Vietnamese fans. His failure however does not surprise me, it is his own fault and he did it to himself. Very selfish play and simply not smart enough for higher level football. The first “Vietnamese Messi” label on cong phuong is because people in vietnam love dribbling so much they think he is such a good player for dribbling past 2 defenders, then over dribble and lose the ball. (Example: Vietnam 1-0 UAE 2019) Cong phuong did NOT play good just because he dribbled past defenders. I watch that match and see Vietnam fans praising how good number 10 dribbling control are while I am screaming “wtf is this guy doing? Pass the ball!”.) it goes back to what I said in my earlier comment. Football has many factors. Being good at one thing does not make you a good football player. All cong phuong knows how to do is dribble and “run like Messi”. Can’t do anything else. Do hung dung is getting too old and I think he only shines in the national team. Doan van hau has bad injury problems and will unfortunately probably never get European attention again. (But I don’t think he is inferior for europe. He is tall strong and did still play in youth team of heerenveen unlike bench marketing player cong phuong). Nguyen tien linh is vietnams best striker and leading scorer in World Cup qualifers for vietnam. But he is very slow and his finishing is not at all that good. It is only because vietnam can not produce any other striker that tien linh is the best scorer despite being average.
