@@MrRob1426 I had a Nikko Porsche in black, it cost me a whopping £16.99 back in 1987. It was very slow and really quite rubbish but it was solid. Nothing but a toy really and I worked for it and I loved it. A few years later I had a Tamiya Hotshot, now that was fun! 😊
It looks like a fun little truck of the young ones.Losing signal range might be an issue because kids will running hem in the street. The RC Advent Calendar is a very good idea.
100% agree with oil shocks being the default. On the flip-side, I think some vehicles are more fun with friction shocks. The Lunchbox for example, is so much fun with its friction dampers.
Yep that's def a rlaarlo, my 2 oldest have one and they're pretty decent and now I know where to get oil shocks that will fit!!! I've had plenty of fun with it, so much so that a guy at work got one for his son and he rips it around the shop when hes there
I just found your channel recently when looking up some RC videos for a friend who is getting back in to it after about 10 years. I really enjoy how much fun you have in your videos regardless of the price point of the car you're looking at. I don't have any RC vehicles but I subscribed because I just like watching the fun videos you make.

From our experience with the rlaarlo version after driving in the dirt a few times the shocks essentially lock out so I say the oil shocks are a necessity, the only issues we've had was with the pinion and spur stripping and we never tried a lipo but we will now haha, thanks for the video Phil!!

I could name a handful of 1/18 scale RC’s better than this too. But that would completely defeat the purpose of why Phil is doing this. 🎄 🎅🏼
I'd try a bit faster motor in it if you can. Maybe the Tamiya torque tuned 370 or latrax 370 brushed motor would be a good option on the cheap for some more speed out of it.
I like the Maverick cars especially since they lowered the price of them for the UK market but some of their spares and optional parts are just ridiculously priced like the shocks
£59 is a bargain. Seems durable, lively but manageable. Perfect for the 8-14 age range. Platform seems good too if you want to go a bit mad and upgrade some bits.
That thing is cool! Perfect as a basement basher during the winter. Sure it’s not the fastest, or best built. But that’s why it’s only around $55 US. I really like the body color scheme too. If I got one it would probably last forever 😂 Because it wouldn’t be subject to anywhere near the abuse in my basement, that it handled at that skate park. 💪 I like that it has lights too. Looking forward to day 4’s reveal! 🎄🎅🏼
I wonder if the lack of oil filled shocks with quite a few of these mini rc's could be 1 it takes them longer when building them in China and 2 if they leak or weap a bit you have oil everywhere and they often do which you see sometimes on 1/10th and 1/8th RTR's

Nice looking truck, as you say it'll be perfect for small kids...id say the 3-7yr olds would be fine with it! I'd go for a Tracer over this one for anyone in the 5-9yr range though i think, slow speeds only excites kiddos for a few minutes...well it did mine anyway 🤣

On the third day of Christmas some rc company gave to me ... One cheep tiny rc that impossible to drive strightly. No oil shocks and slower than a racing snail..😂

Gave this one to my kids. Oil filled shocks is on the list as the friction shocks already binded up 😂 but it's a perfect starter RC and they take a beating without breaking. Not to mention every part is available for single digit £ cost to replace if it does break
If it's anything like the mavrick quantum flux mt then it's trash.. Js... Cause the flux mt is not a basher at all!! U jump it on a small jump and it busts diffs.. I've rebuilt it atleast 5times now both diffs have monkey metal crown gears!! The axles bend super easy!! Maybe mavrick decided to make better stuff
Can you imagine back when we were kids having RCs for 79 dollars? Kids are so spoiled nowadays. I'm so glad I went through the kit-only phase of RC. Makes me appreciate things much more. I had to do extra paper routes to get the latest and greatest RC kit. Then I would have to do more routes to get the electronics and batter into the engine. Would cost upwards of the 600 dollar mark if I had my own radio and charger and glow engine supplies. Then it would break the same day as the test drive and have to work for parts. But, I enjoyed every minute of it. Nowadays you can push a button on your phone screen and for under 100 dollars it will arrive at your house ready to play with. It's insane how far RCs have come in such a short time.

What a time to be into RC. In the 90s you'd be lucky to get a Tyco for £59.
My 1st RC was a Tyco buggy back in the 80s. It ran off of 8aa batteries. It was actually pretty tough and seemed fast at the time. Never broke it.
