I had the honor of meeting Professor Renfrew when he was the guest specialist for one of my classes, and then I got to participate in his excavations at Dhaskalio a few years later. He was actually planning to participate in the upcoming excavations at the site in a few months. I think my favorite memory is of him dancing with all of us at the local club in Koufonissi. He was 82 years old and was having the best time in a place he loved doing exactly what he loved doing. I am sad to hear of his passing, but am glad to have been able to meet him and discuss archaeology with him. And to learn from him.
