    Lynyrd Skynyrd is more than just a band ...they're a way of life ..full of honesty , justice , self reliance , and integrity.
    Their music has and will inspire people to give the best of themselves to their life and the people around them .

      I couldn't have put it any better. Every Oct. 20th, I'll say a prayer, put in some Skynyrd, do a shot of Bourbon, and have a smoke in rememberance for all of the band. the ones gone, and the ones like Gary and little Brother Johnny, keeping Ronnie's dream alive.

      Buddy,you hit the nail on the head. We grew up in a way that many Skynnyrd songs where about. It just so happened they where our favorite band. Ronnie's lyrics where from a wisdom way beyond his years. I don't compare which guitar player was the best, Gary just happened to be my favorite, but I loved all of them. I will say they had the best piano player at the time. It was a salt of the earth band playin' to salt of the earth ppl.

      Even though i am a Bass player, i bought my first Les Paul because of Gary, I used to listen to "One More from The Road' at night in my room with the lights turned off and the headphones on. Did this many times. But from "Nuthin Fancy" album "On the Hunt" was the first lead I learnd on my Les Paul. Later in life I was privaliged to meet Gary in Person in a hotel lobby when they were getting ready to get on the bus to go do a show. I told him about the Les Paul thing and he got a laugh out of it. Then I whipped out my copy of the "First and last " album and he signed it with penmanship just like he learned in school, you could read it good. Gary is a champion in the music industry, a down to earth Badass!

      @@fivestring65ify Huey Thomason once said he used to like to watch Gary when Ed was in the band. There was a chemistry there. I saw Gary be like that with Ed in 1991. That show smoked!! They were there to PLAY! When Steve came along that type of chemistry was there with Steve and Allen. I met Ed a long time ago. Nice man! As great a player as Huey was it was not the same. He had his style and it defined the Outlaws. Different mindset. I love what he did no issue. Gary took the Kossoff thing, slowed down the vibrato and was the rock of Skynyrd. May he rest in peace!

    I'm 53yo and I grew up in N.C. listening to these guys.i play guitar. And everytime anyone asks me who your favorite guitarist. It's Gary rossington. His technique is insane it looks like he isn't even playing what you hear his picking hand is almost motionless. And the tone he got from that 59 les paul and a peavey amplifier is amazing. I play peavey amps to this day. Gary has meant more to me than he will ever know. He's the reason I play today.

      I'm from BR too and had my ticket to the show back then; but I don't have it now. Memory fails, but I must have cashed it in for the refund, never knowing they'd reach such a high level of recognition so many years later. I do, however, have my ticket stub to the Assembly Center when they "resumed" the tour in 1992. I was a grad student at the Manship School. Also saw them at the downtown Civic Center a few years ago and at Sturgis last summer. Visited the memorial near Gillsburg two years ago as well. Very nice.

      They honored those ticket at 87 reunion concert. But in MHO you would have to be a damn fool to use it. Gotta be worth something but I would never sell it if I had one and I certainly wouldn't use it for a concert when I could buy a ticket

    I built him a guitar in 2017 and he called me a few times to discuss the specs. I built a guitar for bandmate Mark "Sparky" Matejka. He was a pleasure to work with. I met him back-stage at a concert in Tampa to give him the guitar and he fixed me up with hats and t-shirts and a few picks. My biggest thrills where when my phone rang, and the caller ID said Gary Rossington. I will never delete his number from my contacts and will cherish the memories of working with him for a brief moment in time.

    RIP Gary Rossington. If there was every anyone who inspired me to play a guitar it was Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd and his burst Les Paul (SG for Freebird). I saw them play in their original line up 4 times, I saw Rossington-Collins play in Fort Worth in the early 80's, then came the first reunion tour concert in Dallas and the many concerts thereafter. This was a band you had to see live, their records kicked butt but the incredible energy they produced could only be felt in person.

    None of the Skynyrd guys seem to ever get mentioned in any GOAT lists or even “top bands of the 70s”
    It’s the never ending shunning of Southerners thing.
    Ronnie had a timeless, amazing voice. Gaines, Rossington, Collins, King all spectacular guitarists.
    Glad to see Gary getting some praise here. RIP 🪦

      @brandonjackson5865 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Never thought about it but you’re right they are never included in the best or most important guitarists on any list and you could make a really good argument for any of Skynyrds members to make a greatest of all time list. Ronnie was an incredible lyricist and an amazing frontman he might not have been the most technically proficient singer but his voice is iconic. Allen Collins, Rossington and Gains should be on some guitar greats lists. I wonder if it’s a southern thing them being overlooked or something. Billy Gibbons is on the lists, although he’s not from the Deep South or Old South but Texas is no doubt southern.

    I grew up listening to and loving Skynyrd's music in the 70's as a teenager. I am 60 now, and will listen / Love 💕 their music for the rest of my life.

    Absolutely one of the best Southern Rock bands. Seen them perform at least a dozen times in many different cities. Gary we will see you on the otherside. God bless Gary and everyone else.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd helped shape southern rock in the 70s and still brings generations of fans to their collection of music. I grew up listening to their songs on 8 track and still enjoy the classics that brought them popularity and fame. Great band indeed.

    Skynyrd has always been one my favorite bands of all time! I loved the story about Bernice and the broken headstock. I had never heard that one before. Another gem RD! Well done brother!

      I heard it was fixed with three screws, and the Gibson guitar maker who did the 200(3?) Gary Rossington signature LesPaul alludes to those three screws as well. Not sure the glue claim is fully accurate. Suggest googling for more info.

    Forever Live The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band ! THE Greatest band there ever was and THE Greatest band there ever will be. They are, without a doubt, the pinnacle of rock and roll guitar music. PERIOD !!! Ain’t none better. ✝️✌🏼

      I humbly disagree. Allman Brothers can not be left out of the conversation.

      @@tedschmidt3288 I like the Allmans. They have a few decent songs. But Skynyrd has a lot of good songs. And better guitar playing to boot. No comparison other than both being considered southern rock genre. But Skynyrd is on a whole other level. It’s not even close. Skynyrd has dozens of good songs. Allmans have but a few. But you are entitled to your opinion....

    • @tedschmidt3288
      @tedschmidt3288 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larrymackerethjr.3812 To each his own. The Allman's live album, "at Fillmore East", in my opinion, when it comes to guitar work in blues/rock/jazz is at the the top..with whoever a distant second. Not discounting the rest of the band, but Duane and Dickey laid down some guitar work that no other band with 2+ guitarists have equaled. My opinion ... and probably a few others.
      I like Skynyrd a lot. I consider them more rock than blues. Another favorite is The Marshall Tucker Band.

    When I heard about his passing I instantly felt yet another hole in my soul with that came some pretty heavy tears !!!! Then all the sudden I started to thinking about the reunion going on in heaven and started smiling as I put on Mr breeze !!!! In my opinion Gary is and always was the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I think that name should be laid to rest with him. There's no replacing him or moving on without him. The world couldn't and wouldn't ever forget the music that shaped generations !!!!! Rip Gary I hope to see you on the other side

    I was there when they brought him into the Emergency Room in McComb MS that terrible evening. The ambulance brought him in on a stretcher, he was wearing his black tee shirt and silver cross. It was amazing that he survived the crash and was still able to carry on. May he rest in great peace!

    Played in 3 bands in N.C. back from 1983 till around 2002 and if you can't play a Lynyrd Skynyrd tune or two, you aren't going very far in a bar band situation. I always loved it, the jams ,extended versions sometimes till 3 O'clock AM with certain pickers along for the ride! Down the Mtn. the back way to Old Fort N.C...and fun ! I can instantly recognize their music and that's the whole ball of wax right there. Skynrd's legacy is insured. Thanks God for letting them entertain us for a short time.

    THE LAST OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS 😢 Rest easy Gary. Your guitar playing certainly inspired me and anybody else who ever held a guitar in their hands, your legacy left behind through music is absolutely monumental end the world should be ever so grateful. My love and condolences to your family and friends. It’s hard as you get older and you start watching your childhood heroes pass on- if I’m lucky enough to live to a normal old age someday all of the childhood heroes will be gone.….. I guess that’s how you know when it’s your time.
