Shodan asking if there's a soul is interesting because she believes herself to be a manifestation of Citadel Station. She even uses Shintoism to justify her existence.
Depends on how cynical/nihilistic you wanna be. Sometimes I feel like that's just a convenient lie people invented as a form of spiritual comfort. Shodan honestly sounds like a great person to have metaphysical discussions with.
That was the first one I ever got after dying, and it definitely hit a very creepy note. I never played System Shock until just now (remake), and it's become one of my favorite games of all time. Fucking phenomenal shit
One thing that I think would have been cool is multiple game over animations. For instance, dying in Beta Grove could lead to a creepy transformation into a crazy mutant, or the Edward Diego boss fight could have him put you into a cyborg converting machine. But this is really good. Loving the remake so far!
One thing in common with this and game over screens for games like the early Star Wars: X-Wing games, is that they make me ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to die or lose! In short, they did quite well.
I believe it can function without a human but requires one to inhabit cyberspace in some kind of duality. Possibly the brain is extra processing power and allows it to jack-in. Pretty sure I read it somewhere but don't have a source to cite at the moment!

When you become omnipresent, the environment becomes one with you.
'Do you believe there is a soul?' line is the most eerie creepy shit ever... chilling.
Let's find out together =)

@@st.haborym well yeah that's the point. we don't know, she doesn't know. but let's find out together. in a horrific kind of way.

"Do you believe there is a soul" and then we hear some twisted cat meowing. In Buddhism cats are keepers of souls.
Oh that is a whole different layer of terror
I can't tell if she's being sarcastic or genuinely this insane in some of these lines
Both 😅
The intro to ss2 literally states that she went insane and believed she was a goddess destined to rule the earth.
Wish more games had this kind of thing. I always wonder what happens when you fail.
Shodan is probably my favorite antagonist in any of the games I've played.
"N-N-Not even death can s-s-save you from me, h-h--hacker!"

The death quotes definitely add to the creep factor.
Amazing addition, so creepy!
My best toxic relationship.
That thing is very similar to a Hunter. 3 legs, and those 2 little things on the front. Pretty cool.
It’s known as a cortex reaver. It has four legs, but I can see what you mean.
@@Insipid_Xerxes oh I did NOT see that leg in the back. lol
This is why you do not sign to be an organ donor 😜
love her ❤️❤️❤️
👍

I like how in some of her background gibberish, you can hear her calling you an "animal."
i've always wondered why the Cortex Reaver needs a human inside of it, it seems to be able to function without it.

Shodan is sadistic 😂
Best game over ever
Is the green/black text part of the death cinematic sequence? I haven’t played the remake yet
Yes
A question as old as Sierra On-Line: Restore, Restart, Quit?
5 magics?
Nice
I-I-Insect.
I hate these, this is somehow worse than the original
