Since there is a division between West and East in Asian competitions, creating seperate 2nd tier competitions for both sides can be interesting.
-AFC Champions League: 24 team competition for both sides
-AFC West Asian League: 32 team competition for Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia
-AFC East Asian League: 32 team competition for East Asia, ASEAN and Australia
Plus, an Asian Super Cup can be established as well when winners of West and East Asian Leagues face each other and then the winner faces against Champions League winner.

South Asia is vast and with huge population and many old clubs only things they don't have is that oil money.
I don't know how AFC thought of South Asia to be part of West Asia .
They could've atleast give 1 slot to South Asia , taking it from West in champions league elite. Some more slots in champion league 2 as South Asia only has one slot and 1 slot in preliminary round.
Even in Challenger league we have only 4 slot out of 20 . Quatar, Saudi all these countries are getting 8-9 slots.
i like this a lot as an al-hilal fan , now we can play the west in knockout stages (without a foreign players cap), a more solid compeition for us. it will be lit, al-hilal will probably reach semi or final each year regardless but still this is much better than pervious format.
What do you expect when you have AFC accommodating to 1 member association?

@@paulorocky OFC should just merge with AFC as Asia Pacific Football Confederation. They can still exist as a regional association, like AFF for South East Asia and WAFF for West Asia. Australia improved itself after playing with Asian countries, Oceania should follow that path.

or 6 teams in each of the 4 groups?

in AFC Challenge League's group stage?

@@neverstopgrowinggIraq was the other country that “bid”, now I’m sure Iraq is nowhere as dangerous as it was 10 or 20 years ago but it would be unlikely that an Asia-wide club tournament would be staged there given the apparent constraints.
Clearly this has been set up to help the Saudi clubs. Asia is not Europe. Travel distances are long, people aren’t as affluent and visas for foreigners aren’t always easy to get. I can only imagine that the centralised venue fixtures not involving Saudi sides will be watched by a mass of empty seats.
In other news, due to the inability to host their home leg in their country, the women’s Olympic qualifier between DPRK and Japan has been moved to …….. Jeddah. The JFA was only informed of this 4 days before the match. I’m sure there’ll be a bumper crowd for this one. (/s)
