Love this game! It was recommended to us at a games shop by staff that saw what kind of games we liked 😊 They knew their stuff The way it cranks up from gently gently to mayhem, chaos, and panic makes it both a fun one to teach, and for memorable game sessions!
People really REALLY like Catacombs, but I honestly prefer Clank In Space more. I personally like being able to plan ahead, and Catacombs has shown me on multiple occasions that it's not great for players with AP or who can't make fast decisions when the board state changes. CIS turns end up taking less time than Catacombs especially at higher counts. CIS also has a lot of variability baked in vs original Clank thanks to the variable map setup. Glad you like CIS!
I honestly think this one is the best in the series. It provides the perfect amount of variability between plays. The original is a good game but has a static board which might get stale over time, while Catacombs is too random and swingy so you can't really plan ahead. Here the board is modular so you can have a pretty different layout each time but it is predefined so you can actually plan your route. When things go according to plan (and also when they don't) it's a hell of a great time.
I concur with this completely. Having played Clank Catacombs many times, the game takes alot longer. If I start a turn with 4 moves, and explore 3-4 new tiles on my turn, the game comes to a crawl. One of the strengths of these kinds of games is that you can plan your turn almost entirely during your opoonent's turns. Clank Catacombs throws a wrench in that.
I'm glad you did this one. Ive been stuck on what series to pick. Id love another video breaking them down from your opinion. I want Clank but only one of them.
Clank legacy is an amazing legacy experience if you enjoy the core mechanics! And you get a unique clank board at the end to keep playing on. Highly recommend!
If they do a legacy one in space ill consider it. I'm not a fan of the Acquisitions incorporated theme of the current one, just not my thing at all. Before i knew that was the clank! legacy theme i used to refer to that setting as Dungeons and Dilberts, lol.
@@3MBG did not know about the setting beforehand, but found the writing awesome and genuinely funny at times, and the legacy experience was on part with (or slightly better than!) Pandemic Legacy. Not sure the final gameboard is different enough from Clank in space to justify the purchase, but we really enjoyed it!
If you try catacombs and like it, I would suggest the Clank adventuring party expansion. It gives you more cards but the best part it’s 6 assemyetric characters you get to start with that all have different decks and different abilities. They aren’t complicated but a great way to add spice to each session trying a different character and using them to maximize a strategy. You could use it in Clank in space but it’s more fantasy themed so it might clash thematically if that bugs you.
Clank! in! Space! was just a top to bottom good time of a game. Not much more to say about it other than i should probably try the other versions of the franchise as well. Legacy games are not my thing, so probably won't do that one.
This came at the perfect time, as I'm just thinking which version of Clank I will pick up. I've only played the original and Catacombs. I thought the original was a bit bland, and while the randomness of Catacombs was fun at the start, I feel like it restricts strategy. Based on the images you provided, I dig the sci-fi theme a LOT better than the art in Clank/Catacombs, so this is a strong contender.
While original Clank is probably still my favourite (as I am a fantasy theme sucker), this one was cool and actually did deck building a lot better than original (there are just much more opportunities to trim your deck here than in original). Catacombs I've also only played once and that one was fun but ran a little long for what it is (as the way the board gets created you can get trapped very far from the the start of the game where you have to return).
I like In Space's factions & Bounty Hunters, but Clank Legacy is best, even if the campaign doesn't scale properly so 3-4p is better than 2. Also I haven't tried Catacombs and have no reason to play the original.
Do you also have the expansions for each? If so, do you like to play with everything at once or choose a single expansion to play with? I've only tried Adventuring Party with Catacombs, and wondering if the others are worth it.
I have all the expansions. I use almost always one expansion with characters and one expansion with cards. You can mix all expansion and characters together if you want but it becomes a mess I think.

It seemed to me the best first choice for me for that reason, and the theme

Glad to see you enjoyed the game! The series is one of my favorite and Clank in Space is my favorite cause, space.
Cause, space, is the perfect reason.
The Dire Wolf app provides a 5-part solo campaign that can be played through for Clank! In! Space! It’s also quite enjoyable.
Noted. I only cover stuff in the box unless the game is specifically app dependent, so had no idea.
@@3MBGI just wanted to let you know, you might enjoy the various challenges. I really enjoy your content, thank you for all you do!
i enjoy your pronunciation of teleporter

Ill see what i can do. No promises though, this one was NOT a review copy.
@3MBG To be fair they are all great games in the series and ypu cant go wrong with any. Thanks for your work!

Sounds like it could be the one to try out

Great review!
Quick question: Have you ever tried to get into a game you really, really wanted to like, but it simply just wasn't for you?
Very recently, with Defenders of the wild. I loved their previous game Bloc by Bloc but defenders bounced off me hard.
I like In Space's factions & Bounty Hunters, but Clank Legacy is best, even if the campaign doesn't scale properly so 3-4p is better than 2. Also I haven't tried Catacombs and have no reason to play the original.
As a person that has all clanks, I have to say that catacombs and legacy are the best clanks . Clank in space is slow and a bit boring.
Do you also have the expansions for each? If so, do you like to play with everything at once or choose a single expansion to play with? I've only tried Adventuring Party with Catacombs, and wondering if the others are worth it.
