The drinking culture of young people in the UK was much worse 20 years ago. It is pleasing to see today's young Brits have healthier attitudes towards alcohol than my generation did at their ages

I think it has more to do with how much it costs to go out drinking now.
Back in my day (late nineties) the alcohol was cheap and they would have special offers in the bars that encouraged getting hammered.
I guarantee you'd see young people doing the same if the relative cost was the same now.

@@MizzyG37 It was horrible in the 90s though, just a mess, and one of the reasons its died out.

@@_Rustodian I don’t think that’s entirely true. I think you’re correct that price is a factor but I was completely put off binge drinking by witnessing the mess of the 2000s drinking culture. It helped that my mum gave up alcohol so it’s been a good influence on me 😊

We definitely don’t drink as much anymore. I guess it’s because some of us witnessed the mess of the 2000s drinking culture before we were old enough to drink. It was completely unappealing to me, going on a boozy holiday in Magaluf or Zante. I didn’t want to spend £300+ to not remember socialising with my friends and coming back with a horrible sunburn. 😂

Lots of drinking in Liverpool. Things like girls night out. I actually talked with a police officer, and told him I feel safer because he's there😊

We are a nation of drinkers though. Pretty much life revolves around it here. Because many British people have been professional drinkers since at least the age if 18 (people always start before 18 though) you probably can't tell just how much people drink.

I live on a main Rd and me and my sister share the master bedroom. We hear drunk people all the time (casual shouting, talking loudly, hanging around), almost every night, and we’re so used to it. We went on a holiday to Spain and were warned that there would be people partying and drinking there because the night life lives. We fell asleep pretty easily though, because were used to it back home.

In UK 🇬🇧 we beginning drinking alcohol legally at 18. Although there are alcholics, as anywhere in World, most can hold their booze. Many Americans come to British universities because they feel free!.

I can believe that, because in the US, students are targeted for drunk in public. Many times, Uni students can't walk from place to place because they are too spread out, and the taxis are so expensive, that many take the chance and drive over the legal limit. The police are always monitoring nearby. It's a way for the local governments to make tons of money. Pathetic.

It's legal to drink alcohol younger than 18, it's just not legal to buy alcohol until you are 18.

You're lucky if you haven't yet seen it, but you'll read about it a lot. UK is getting a dangerous place to live nowadays.

I have seen young women in the skimpiest getup do coke in the loo/ being shitfaced, at 2 pm in family style restaurants on an avarage Saturday in the fanciest areas...
Drinking is a serious problem here (just search up the NHS stats), but that's just scrathing the surface

The thing about a city or country that has a big drinking culture is people can generally handle their booze without acting like amateurs like you see on New Years Eve.
Yes, the Brits have a rep for hitting the pubs for happy hour and binge drinking on weekends. And yes, many younger 20-something British men and some women have a rep for partying hard.
I never saw too much get out of control though in London or Manchester when I was there .I think that mostly happens at big soccer matches and music festivals.
Brit men do have a reputation though in other European cities like Amsterdam and Prague for instance when they travel there for bachelor parties as acting a bit rowdy.

You cannot always trust the stereotypes out there. Quite often they are based on habits that have become more outdated.

British women drink more thsn the men; one traffic control helicopter pilot starts his 7pm broacast with thr words "Chunderbirds are go!"

  • @werewolfcountry
    @werewolfcountry ปีที่แล้ว

Brits drink a lot less than they did in the 90s and early 2000s, the stereotype probably came from the binge drinking culture that existed then.
