Yes. People even knew circumference of Earth, in Europe at least since 2300 years ago. In fact that's why Columbus had such hard time getting ships for his voyage to India. People knew that his calculation are simply wrong, he had great luck that between Europe and Asia is America, otherwise he and his crew would die at sea.
Or smallpox. Everyone born after lik 1985 is not vaccinated againstt hat disease anymore. Soooo...not a good time to travel back to an era where the disease was really prevalent.
15:35 Most people in Medieval Europe already knew that the world was round. This was commonly accepted back in Ancient Rome. Sure, the average peasant probably wouldn't know this, but they also probably wouldn't care. Unless you're super wealthy you're probably not gonna have to worry about coming across wine. Even at a Catholic Mass, wine was pretty scarce and only given out to clergy and some noble classes. Yeah, heliocentrism wouldn't even be considered an idea hypothetically until Copernicus. You probably wouldn't be considered a heretic for exclusively being heliocentric though. Galileo and Bruno got in trouble for trying to use theology to prove their models using Copernicus' work. Galileo in a particular was actually never convicted of heresy, he came dangerously close by trying to use the Bible to prove his faulty model. Bruno on the other hand held a lot of unorthodox and condemned theological beliefs, and that's mainly why he was declared a heretic.
The issue with Galileo wasn't that he tried to use theology, even the Pope himself was a good friend and supporter of Galileo, it was that for some reason he started proclaiming his theory as absolute, undeniable truth and wrote a whole book where he inserted dialogue he had with the Pope under the name Simpleton (effectively calling the Pope stupid for no reason). The Pope even tried repeatedly to stop him from getting labeled a heretic, and his arrest was being confined to a rich manor where he was allowed to continue his science as long as he didn't assert and teach his theory as indisputable truth. Apparently a massive ego gets you confined to house arrest in your villa.
@koderamerikaner5147 remember that while in some ways life is less restrictive in the middle ages, you do not have the right to backpack your betters. Not unless you are the Court Jester.
The idea reminds me a bit of the novel series '1632' by Eric Flint, where an entire fictious small town of roughly 3000 people from the Southern US is suddenly transported into Thuringia of the year 1632, in the middle of the 30-years war.
Eh, depending on where you go you should be fine. Some medieval folks respected moors as they were known as great doctors. So pick yourself up some medic skills and many would be happy to have you. I wouldn’t worry until like 1700s about major racism in European population.
There would be no Internet because there would be no infrastructure for it I mean, you could still take the information with you though I guess I don’t think you need Wi-Fi or Internet access for information storage
A nice dream story. If you get sent back to time, you would stand out especially with your mobile or laptop. You need to blend in, not stand out. You would be seen as a stranger, if unlucky you would be called a witch and killed. You speak a different language. The medieval era had a problem of the climate being colder due to a vulcano eruption.
Witch-hunts were a post-reformation thing; That's why the most vivid imagery of it is the Salem witch trials, committed in colonial times by Puritans. The Catholic Church forced multiple nations in the middle ages to outlaw witch-hunting and put the death penalty on anyone who commits a witch-hunt. They weren't dumb, they would just see your technology as very advanced, like if you were to pull out a hologram or some warping technology nowadays. The language part would be the real issue, since they'd probably find you very hard to communicate with if not impossible.
Can I bring a modern firearm? Because if so then with the deconstruction and knowledge of firearms then I could become a great weapon smith to whatever king to which I swear fealty
My only real plan If I got sent back in time, as a research biochemist, would be to try to make nitroglycerin for some ruler, nitre was known in the medieval period and can be used to make nitric acid and glycerol can be extracted from animal fats. Probably would get myself killed in the process but being blown up during explosives manufacture is probably better than dying of the plague
I wouldn't do anything benefital for humanity Im an ordinarily intelligent man, I couldn't compete with the elites EVEN if I did defeat them and came to power somehow, the most I could do is to change social laws and things I couldn't kickstart the Industrial Revolution to modernize society, there are just too much to even do that The best I could do is just trying to survive as a strange-dressing and somehow-healthy-looking man
My only real plan If I got sent back in time, as a research biochemist, would be to try to make nitroglycerin for some ruler, nitre was known in the medieval period and can be used to make nitric acid and glycerol can be extracted from animal fats.
Assuming it is a planned event based on the context of you saying we can take as much stuff as we could fit in a suitcase then I’d probably take as much info as I can so my phone alongside charging devices, and also a way to create more energy to charge my device after all the extra energy is used up that way I have access to essentially as much knowledge as I need to because I would have it all saved preemptively. I’d also get extra protection for the phone as well. When traveling to the distant past knowledge really is power you would need to know as much as you physically can to survive
Oh hell ya! We've LITERALLY been training for this our entire life! XD That being said, we DEFINITELY don't want to start a mercenary band, just as you! Of course conquest is really NOT the best way to positively affect the future! XD
With hyper realism: I’d die because I’m physically disabled and require too much modern medicine Without hyper realism: I’d be strategic as much as I could I’d stay low and slowly build my fame and presence in hopes to become powerful
Lore dad you should know better that the oibrary of alexandria probably contained nothing. Other then documents and phulosphy and alexendria didnt hold all the information all port cities had its policy. This is common knowledge
Earth being round was actually known though, medieval people believing it's flat is a myth perpetuated later.

Little does Loredad know that everyone will somehow die 5 minutes into the livestream from measles

Thanks for the comment. It’s good to point out misconceptions and I’m sorry for perpetuating them by accident!

As others have said racism is less of a deal than believed. Most xenophobia was reserved for direct neighbours and being learned was respected.
Go to the Cotton field
If I am sent to the past I am taking books and info about agriculture, there is little chance I am becoming a noble
Good call, but why not take something that _could_ help you become a noble, or somebody even higher ranking?
I have a question, will this mod be released on Steam Workshop?
Whoa! I wasn’t expecting you to start a timeline where you something find yourself in the medieval period! This is definitely going to be insane!
Really excited for this. Hope I have the time to watch it on Tuesday.
please do something like this for other time periods, this is a great idea!
In reality most of us would probably die from diseases caused by medieval hygiene standards
I would bring a lot of phones and charging bricks so I could have tons of knowledge, as well as a phone to copy down books
There would be no Internet because there would be no infrastructure for it

They did have guns(not good though), so it wouldn't be so hard for them to understand
No it would be hard to understand as the guns u are thinking isn’t in the high medieval age

You watched the video in a minute?
They’re just that good

GOAT loredad
Read the 1632 Saga by Eric Flint. Absolutely GOATED Time travel novel series.
Okay, but doctors back then were kinda dumb, easily getting them to wash their hands before doing surgery would be a boon.
Like they’d listen to som uneducated stranger who can barely speak
@@Jay_JohnsonI meant easily like obviously, like, easily proven, not easy to do, should of used better words in hindsight
I would teach everyone Calculus, boom instantly advance technology and innovation 500 years
