- How fast was the R-110A? Consider this: The train could run as fast as 53 miles per hour, though there were reports that the train could run as fast as 55+ miles. In this rare video clip from April 1994, the R110A was being used as a schoolcar train. It was sent down Lexington Ave, which is why it was running through the Jeralomon St. tubes. The screen on the console shows the speed as the train is accelerating through the tubes, but the speed drops slightly as the train begins to climb.
The way you hit the jointers and that switch flying into Borough Hall I'm done! Man. Good times when T/O's could fly in there before the timers.
Man, I wish these were still running. The air propulsion sounds like a Nissan skyline.I thought the top speed was 55mph for the subway. I would say that is false because back in the 70's, there was a speed test for the r44 on the lirr tracks from I think sunnyside to jamaica and it went 87mph. I can't picture them that fast but its true.
I miss that Tech Train so much.
@Dortizr160 That was the Borough Hall station on the Lexington Ave line. The train operated down Lexington Ave that day.
love the classics
This is awesome!!!
The Woman Who Said *" WE DONT NEED NEW TRAINS"* Disliked The Video
Growling Motors She said that on the R110B A train😂
All NTTs are capped at 55
hey if anyone could anwser this question
Is this how the controls would look like on an R142?
push
when is stop pull back
Sort of
whoa! Im saying what all the others said, really fast & Nice!
Unfortunately my computer is acting retarted and The video is playing one frame every 3 seconds :-(.
@kmothersil Before timers my friend!
I really didn't like the Announcements in the R110A. NYC subway would have been similar as other Rapid transit Systems. R142A changed everything. They did had the best announcements and added the guy for the stand clear of the doors announcements. This make NYC subway different from other Rapid Transit and Metro System
Shit was fast.
what station was at the end of the video?
Borough Hall I think
Why does the train have that weird musical sound to it? (new San Diego Trolley vehicles do that too). Not at all like I remember when I was in NYC 20 years ago. And it only got to 49 mph and dropped to 38 mph on an uphill? And he had it flat out? Doesn't sound like a governor, sounds like the motors are underpowered.
did the side destination sign look like the r46
oh nice r179 been delivered
Sorry this is the R110.

Ow
Is this the R42 or the R160?
the R160 or R42 wasnt made at this time
P_atchy ya r160 was 2002 and r42 was like the 50s
P_atchy The R42 was already built, and in Service. The R160 was built in 2005.
Tyler Wong No, R42s were built in the Late 60s. And the R160 was built in 2005. The R143s was around though.
This the R110A
