Enjoyed this very much. I am not a creator but I am grateful for those who are. I am 76 and people think I am foolish to start a hobby. I lost my husband to cancer 10 years ago and withdrew from life. Recently I found bonsai and it is bringing me back into the world. Your videos are so informative and peaceful. They feel to me like visiting a good friend while he works on his trees and shares the process.
@@MamaJArk Awwww - thanks for that amazing comment. I am so glad that you have found such a great and rewarding hobby - you’re never too old to take up new things that spark an interest and you are inspiring! So sorry to hear of your husband. Cancer truly is a terrible terrible disease that shrinks your world in ways that I never could have imagined. I’m happy that are enjoying the channel - thanks for the kind comments and best of luck with your new hobby! 🤣🙏🌲❤️
I’m a 60 year old, retired fisheries biologist who’s main hobby is planted aquariums. I also have a succulent collection because I love the biological extremes of too much and not enough water. Watching Peter, Jelle, Nigel, and Xavier got me thinking bonsai at the same time I was making an effort to learn tree identification. Collecting seeds and seedlings was fun but I knew I’d never actually have a bonsai just a lot of starter materials. Then I noticed that there was this succulent they were trimming into shape and I realized that I could have something that looked like a bonsai. I found your channel and since then I’ve been giving away a lot of the succulents so I could have room for these plants. The focus issue has improved btw. 😊
@@itisjustmedude There is so much great bonsai content on TH-cam - it’s quite amazing. Succulents are pretty amazing plants - so many varieties and interesting plants, I’m glad that you are enjoying working with them. Planted aquariums are so cool - I was just searching on them, neat ecosystem. Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️🌲
It’s like we’re living parallel lives Jay! 🤣 TH-cam Channels - check, Whitty and entertaining - check, devilishly handsome - check. It’s a small world for sure! 🙏❤️🌲

I’m blushing - thanks so much for the compliments. I’m also thankful that we met and I get a big kick and so much vicarious enjoyment from your enthusiasm for bonsai. Interesting on Iridium - most people have no idea what it is. I spent a few years in Chandler, AZ where Motorola developed them - it was humbling to work with so many incredible engineers and rocket scientists! I always told my kids - “before the internet” we used to do all sorts of crazy things in space! Have a great Thanksgiving! We’re spending it in Portland this year which is nice - I haven’t been there in some time now. Oh, and you and I and Dave and Jay need to form a club or get t-shirts or something, so many similarities in our lives.

Mto obrigada por partilhar connosco a sua história... bonsai é uma arte que nos ensina, acima de tudo, o desapego. Desejo rápidas melhoras e sim, o seu canal ajuda-nos mto. Grande abraço de Lisboa!! ❤
Thanks you so much Lili - hugs are good! Bonsai is an amazing art - working with living medium is so enriching. Thanks for watching and commenting and being one of my long time viewers - I appreciate it so much. 🙏❤️
Interesting insight into a bonsai legend, really happy you made a full recovery from cancer, and your story about falling in love with your wife and bonsai on the same day was magical
Love your format, keep doing what you do....6+ years in the navy stationed on an island in the Indian ocean & other areas. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma cancer on my face about 9 years ago. I've got a 3 inch scar to remind me..(SPF zero sunscreen while in the navy wasn't a good idea 🤷♂️) Bonsai started with Maples many years ago and failed....got back into bonsai with succulents during covid and love it. It's definitely relaxing. But now I'm hooked on surfing the internet for interesting pots..😂😂 my favorite bonsai was a huge crassula jade that our cats killed after they decided to use it as a litter box...😮
Hi Dave! We have so much in common. I get you on the sunscreen - I remember as kids we even put oil on! It’s funny with maples - I’ve never owned another one since I lost all of Mina’s - I’m having too much fun with succulents. ❤️🌲
Thanks for the great question. There are very few videos on these amazing Frank yee variety other than the one I’ve seen that features Frank himself talking about the trees from Eastern Leaf Bonsai (I think it’s his video). I have enough of them I will try to do a video on them in the future. I’ve been very happy with the variety all around - it hits on all cylinders as a fast grower, thickens quickly, great bark, and good natural branch growth. Take care and thanks for watching!!
Happy to be part of your journey Tom!!
Thank you Lennert. 🙏
