      i think 1 because of the area, walking distance and it's cheaper

      I think you probably chose apartment two despite the higher rent

    The second apartment had me at “5 minutes from work”

  • @fiemouse

    I think Apartment No.1 is what you chose because of the trendy area you mentioned that was walking distance, the size of the apartment was good, and it is cheaper than the second apartment.
    Side note: I don’t mind spiders compared to other bugs/ insects 😅 jars are wonderful forms of transportation for spiders to the outside! But only if you’re feeling brave 😊
    I hope the move isn’t too taxing and good luck 👍🏻

    I think that you probably chose option 2 because even though it was a bit above your budget, it has so much more of what you wanted and it's so close to your new job. That being said, I probably would have chosen option 1 because the kitchen was bigger lol.

    Not bad at all! I would 1000% pay 135,000 yen for that! Where I live in Canada a place like that would be around 2000-3000 dollars a month. I’m looking into moving to Japan and renting out my current place (which I could rent for $3200) which would definitely cover pretty much any place there from the looks of it. Thanks for this video!

  • @twinklyes
    @twinklyes ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I were you, I would have chosen the second one! Even though it’s a bit more expensive, safety is definitely most important, especially since you’re living alone. Plus, you can always buy extra storage for your clothes. The negative parts of the first house can’t be improved using money but the second one can!

    1st one was good but it’d be better if it was on the 2nd or 3rd floor. I like white noises/light sounds bc it’ll make me sleep easy? Lol. Plus it seems affordable.
    The 2nd one is really nice for an upgrade! I think you chose #2❤ you deserve it, girl😊

    Apartment 1 had built in cockroach pest control - spiders’ favorite snack ;)
    I think I have heard that there’s actually a specific type of large spider Japanese people want to come into their homes and hunt pests (they hunt at night); maybe that’s just in the countryside.
    Ps: Apartment 2 will require some excellent space saving strategies but definitely an awesome choice. Might make for some great videos: how to save space in tiny apartment (Marie Kondo style?) ❤

  • @rosew1
    @rosew1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My pick would be number 1. Better location and the separate bath area and the walk in closest! My daughter moved about 6 yrs ago, I remember her stress level! She lives a couple hours from Tokyo, so much easier than your move. Good luck!

  • @JenniferNg0529
    @JenniferNg0529 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm guessing Apartment 2 because you want to treat yourself to a nice place. It's ¥135,000 just "slightly" above your budget. I wouldn't mind moving an apartment like this. My UTokyo dorm room is absurdly small now. It's always good to live a little

  • @tinytarakeet
    @tinytarakeet ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'd go for #1 bc I'm a heavy sleeper and love going under-budget >:) but I hope you chose #2! I feel like the convenience of the combini and other amenities and the short walk to work would save you a lot of time! (time that could go towards relaxing, playing games, ᵐᵃᵏᶦⁿᵍ ᵐᵒʳᵉ ᵛᶦᵈᵉᵒˢ ʰᵉʰᵉʰ, spending time with friends, etc! ^^)

  • @rorik.3842
    @rorik.3842 ปีที่แล้ว

    lvoed the video, please do a tour then! I think 2 is good, for security and convenient, even tho I think first one could make of a cute one! but comfort is important :)

    This was really interesting to watch! I've seen a lot of apartment tours, but never a Japanese apartment hunting vid. So I didn't know much about the different kinds of amenities, pricing, exact size, etc. It seems like the cities in Japan have way nicer and cheaper apartments than in places like New York, lol.
    Oof, I definitely would've picked Apartment #2, but Apartment #1 is cheaper in the long run, so there's that. I just can't stand orange walls, haha, and Apartment #2 was suuuper nice.

  • @Terrible_Hime
    @Terrible_Hime ปีที่แล้ว

    if you're a light sleeper and noises outside wake you up easily, try a white noise machine if you haven't already. i thought it was keep me up at night but it's honestly been a game changer for my sleep.

  • @mellisandes
    @mellisandes ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally, I would choose apartment 2 the motorway/highway wouldn't bother me as I've lived beside one nearly all of my life so I've learned to tune out of it unless they happen to be doing major repair work cause that's another story altogether lol. Grats on the move and I'm looking forward to see what you chose in the end.

  • @jordanvlife

    Second apartment. Plants outside might help for deadening sound. It's a nice balcony and amenities.

  • @mclamb2011
    @mclamb2011 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apt 2 for several reasons but for me the closeness to work is #1. You will be going to work daily so the location is much better.

  • @Cafe_Con_Leche_54
    @Cafe_Con_Leche_54 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the second one just for the privacy of being on a higher floor, but it looks lovely too! Whichever you chose, I hope you are very happy there :)

  • @lynda.grace.14
    @lynda.grace.14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Given all the information you cited it's a tough choice. I like to open my balcony windows which makes it harder as you have to choose between visibility from the street or traffic noise (and pollution). Sound you can take care of with noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs for sleeping. (The custom made ones, not the foam bits.) Bugs are off-putting, but closets are the toughest call. If you have a platform bed with storage under it, that would help to ease that burden. But you have to store lots of things like suitcases too.
    I'd pick #2 for the extra amenities. If you can work toward a minimalistic style, it will be more comfortable in the long run. Personally, I would have sucked it up in your current place for a bit longer, done the commute, and moved in the off-season when I might have more choices. But that's me.

  • @lisalevin1658
    @lisalevin1658 ปีที่แล้ว

    2 would be best! It’s only slightly over your budget but you can apply your “thank you” money for the difference. Plus, you can keep your window open and get your natural light in there. All the amenities that would allow you to live a less stressful life are also available in the second apartment, along with a convenience store. 2 it is!

    I think the 2nd one. I showed apartments for 10 years and non-negotiables were never up for debate. 1st floor and safety for single women were top of the list… same for the luxuries 🤣🤣

  • @hseldon2000
    @hseldon2000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would pick the second one. I lived in a street level studio before, curtain was always closed like you mentioned, which felt boxed in and the interior didn’t get natural lighting. The experience was rather depressing and I would not do it again.

    I lived in a studio for about a year and it's just so claustrophobic for me not to have one separate room for my bed and my pile of clothes and stuff like that. I might actually put a folded futon in that walk-in closet in the first apartment and sleep there :P

    i love house-hunting stuff! thank you for sharing!! between the two i would personally pick 2...mostly because of the bathroom (it looked so nice and so much storage! plus i prefer having the toilet together with the rest in one room) and like you said with being not on the 1st-floor because of insects
    i wish you good luck on your move!

    Excellent video. I learned a lot. Never thought about the downsides of a ground floor unit. You definitely taught me a lot. My wife's Mom has a washer, but no dryer. It's kind of a pain. Her sister has a comfortable apartment with one of those drying bathrooms. Very weird. But it seems to work.

    First one had a spider 🤣 but it looked like a deal to me. Like, the second place was beautiful, it had all the bells and whistles but the space in apartment 1 is just so great. And the ease of walking to fun trendy places, and work distance. It just feels like a steal man! BUT THEN, being on the first floor 💀
    I was gonna say you went with apartment 2, just cuz 🤣🤣 but now i really dont know. They both have such great pros and great cons

    I will take parament 1, due to the fact that it is not near to a Highway. I rather deal with a smaller road with less traffic than a highway with more traffic. I believe you chose apartment 2 since it more mode.

  • @alexb.1320
    @alexb.1320 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd say you went with #2. Apartment #1 being ground floor is a deal breaker, too many cons being on a ground floor in my book in a dense urban area. Not to mention the street noise is more apparent vs white noise effect in the 2nd.

  • @DHJakon
    @DHJakon ปีที่แล้ว

    Very informative video. I came back for a Japan trip a few months ago and I started thinking about going there for work. You mention NYC apartment hunting vids, but even US tier 2 cities, I wouldn't find any apartments for 1k USD. Not for buildings that have the accessibility Tokyo offers.

  • @Cat1184
    @Cat1184 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh wow, very difficult decision. I kind of liked the first one a little better. It looked more spacious. However I would have and I think you did too, choose the second apartment because living on first floor and having to probably live with the bug problem a long time would be out of the question for me. So I think you’ve chosen apartment number two. Can’t wait to find out which one you’ve really got.

  • @Bruxinhasorridente
    @Bruxinhasorridente ปีที่แล้ว

    Apto 2. The problem is the same as the 1st - noise. Personally, I like apto 1 more - more storage and more light but then you said is ground floor and that is a big NO. Never feel confortable is a big no for me so I would have picked 2nd.

  • @ennur4208

    I personally would have gone with #2 since it had a nicer bathroom space and was closer to work. I can't wait to see which you picked, I think it is hard to find a perfect fit and both had some good and bad aspects. Are there a lot of options for moving companies for you to help package up and transport your furniture/boxes/appliances?

  • @heatherrennie2692
    @heatherrennie2692 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello
    I think you chose number 2 home.
    As you got all the ammendment of home 2 like a place to leave your panels and auto lock and really close to where you work. Thank you for showing us what it cost and moving Dat in Toyko. I wish they had packing and removing and transport of belongings and unpacking at the end. In the UK we have to pack our own belongings and once we get to our new place we have to unpack.. I really hate that. I'm disabled I can't stand for too long. So it's sitting packing. Also I love the idea of ladies as part of toyko removals because you don't have a man putting your smalls into draws. I'd find a man unpacking my underwear creepy.

    Apartment prices in Tokyo are totally insane. I have a nice 3LDK in Okinawa for not quite half of what you will be paying. I did live in Tokyo 30 plus years ago and at that time my 3bdrm apartment ran something like 175,000 yen/month which, fortunatly, the company paid for.

    Well, I will say, it feels like a toss up in a lot of ways. So that means I fall back on my own leanings...and I just kinda like to live in places that feel fancy so I would take the second one. Well, that and ground floor noise plus people staring in my window doesn't sound pleasant... We'll see if we think the same I suppose 😂

    I wouldn't know what to do if my rent was that per month, which right now hovers around $2,100 which includes water and sewer. Last year it was $1,600, But this is for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with a bonus room.
