How to Make a Wolf Tail

- Today we are making a faux fur wolf tail out of 100% acrylic yarn. This is a really fun project that doesn't require a lot of tools. All you're going to need is:
A dog brush
medium crochet needle
scissors
2 rolls of yarn (make sure it is 100% acrylic)
In the end this project was a failure. I made some decisions along the way that I regretted in the end, and ultimately ruined the project for me. I didn't like how thin I made the core and I should have done something different with the armature wire. But that's ok because I always learn from mistakes. I can just do it again and do it better.

@@BlanchBrothersStudio no I have a full body base and a unused mask that fills my whole face that I'm going to poke holes into and use a sewing needle to attach the arcrilic yarn (prob spelled that wrong) into them im also making a snout shape with sculpting clay.

:) sorry. Just wing it. Make it longer than you think and you can always cut it shorter.
You dont wanna use 100% acrylic if you want the straightener fur effect, its betted to get a blend, 100% acrylic is best for the wooly curly effect

I’m doing Legosii
I've learned to make yarn tails and completed my first one and promised to give it to my sister but then re did that tail (Took it apart and re combed the fluff)I made an even longer tail for myself and made my sister one as well cause she likes wearing them too :) I'm experimenting with this other yarn but it's tougher to comb out. The tails aren't the nicest looking, kind of delicate if its pulled on but it's quite fluffy and soft.
Edit:I made mine a bit different, they were tied onto the braid thingy, maybe I'll try it this way soon :D

Use a hair straightener on low/medium heat and straighten the fibers and it won’t look so wonky
That's true. I did that on my first one but I wanted a "wilder" look for this one

Doing this WILL make your fingers bleed! Trust me, you would be much better off getting a fat quarter of fabric from walmart, laying that on a table, and brushing it on the fat quarter.

Maybe a fabric core with stuffing will make it appear to have more volume? Like make a pillow in the tail shape. It wont be nearly as dynamic but it'll definitely make it look full. Also tying the yarn to a barbecue skewer and brushing it all then stitching the rows on from the knots might be faster Im not sure.
Your braided core technique is excellent for a dynamic tail that has a lot of wiggle to it!!!
For a final touch if you soak the acrylic in hot water and fabric softenrr and brush it out it'll come out AMAZING

can you show how to make the base? i can’t seem to find a tutorial that tells me how to make a tail using wire
Its just 6...or 8 strands of 16 gauge wire. 3 or 4 for each side. Twist them together. Then braid the yarn around the wire. The hard part is connecting that wire Y to some kind of belt.

I have no acrylic yarn. I have polyacrylic yarn and most of it gets lost in brushing it out.
That's because poly acrylic has shorter fibers. You can use other types other than acrylic you just have to experiment with what kind of fiber length it has

The first tail he made was beautiful, and the end seemed worse than what you get from the dollar store.
I didnt know you could get tails at the dollar store. Ill have to check that out thanks :)

Do you know any alternatives for a pet brush?
Anything that gets between the fibers will work it will just take longer. Never tried it but i imagine you could make it work with even a fork.
