    how about looking after our citizens first before you let digital nomads in

      Credit lines aren't a good way to help nzers. Bringing these people in to spend their money on our boarders is net positive. My question is why they refuse to lower petrol prices. This will relieve more pressure on the economy.

    Don't come here. Highest grocery prices Housing unaffordable. The government is moving to privatise health care so no free health care anymore. Tourist activities very expensive. Go to Australia.

      Yup. Most digital nomads are looking for an affordable place to set up and work without the stress of high bills. Example , Bali Indonesia , Thailand, Portugal etc. Rarely do you see digital nomads in Switzerland, Monaco, and high overhead destinations.

    Nicola needs to google digital nomad. They are not all wealthy!

    • @NewZman23
      @NewZman23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are so right. And she needs to understand that digital nomads are by no means a new phenomena and that she can suddenly, significantly boost our economy by enticing them here with this hugely generous offer. In fact I would say many, while they may not be "poor" can hardly be classed as wealthy at all.

    From the UK! Proponents of the four-day week say that the five-day pattern is a hangover from an earlier economic age. Joe Ryle, the foundation’s campaign director, said that the “9-5, five-day working week was invented 100 years ago and is no longer fit for purpose. We are long overdue an update.”
    With “50% more free time, a four-day week gives people the freedom to live happier, more fulfilling lives”, he continued. “As hundreds of British companies and one local council have already shown, a four-day week with no loss of pay can be a win-win for both workers and employers.”

    Digital nomads prefer to live in cheap countries connected to the world, not on an island far from everything and where the cost of living is extremely expensive.

      Nothing, as it's virtually impossible to monitor and/or prevent this happening. So I can't see how this new "announcement" will make any difference (or at least no significant difference) to our economy. It's all bluster and smoke and mirrors...and it took three of them to tell us this 😂😂

    I dont care about bringing money into this country. Its fine for us to attract outside money to come in. What I care about is relieving the current pressure. Why is the petrol prices still so high. Our leader stated he would lower petrol prices during his run. But he promised to raise them. He lied to us.

    Thank you for your news article, sorry I didn't know RNZ had a TH-cam channel, this is what I wrote to Herald yesterday;

    Where the hell are these digital nomads going to stay, we are in a housing crisis, oh let me guess they'll live in caravans or 'travel trailers' spend f all, trash the place and go back to thier country with thier credit card debt from the last decade paid off. Good grief Nicola, pull the other one! You obviously don't understand the digital nomad culture AT ALL.
    And also this comment;
    So the Digital Nomads won't pay tax here but they'll use our infrastructure for free? Hope too many don't need to be rescued by helicopter off a mountain top!

    Why don’t you look at longer parent visitor visas - there’s a much greater market there and guaranteed more spending than a person without family!

    In Southeast Asia, this visa change has been available for more than 5 years. So NZ is just bringing itself in line with Asia . But is there risk or concern about criminal activity?

    we need economic growth and allowing more youtubers in to showcase nz is excellent. surprised someone as leftwing as nicky is going along with it. the nz dollar has fallen 12.5% in real terms relative to the usd over recent months, so any growth short of this is still a loss.

    • @NewZman23
      @NewZman23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Um... With respect, I think you missed the point. I don't think they are talking about you tubers, travel vloggers, content creators, or on line influencers. Foreign You tubers can already come here as tourists/visitors and make vlogs and publish their vlogs and that's great. But many of these travel vloggers are young budget travelers, not rich, wealthy tourists, which are whom these ministers said they are specifically targeting.

      @@NewZman23 ok. thanks. so much news online it's hard to keep up. we need the wealthy tourists here too. they come in, leave their money, and nz becomes richer. i am surprised nicky gets it - the left usually don't.
