I really enjoy how realistic and easy going your videos are. You try, get lost and all the regular stuff of traveling. It’s sooo refreshing after watching videos of “aesthetic” everything! I’m so fed up with that content. Thank you! 🎉
If you weren't already aware, the ICOCA card (And all IC cards) can be reused up to 10 years after you last used it. So, for example. If you return to Japan in 3/5/9 years time, then you can use your ICOCA card again in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, etc.
I've been watching all of your Japan videos. I have to say, I really like your style. Your travel style/comments are pretty close to stuff I'd say/do/enjoy. I went to Japan, solo in 2019 (my wife and kids were in China, where I went to after this solo trip). I LOVED my time there, and are taking my family back there, this summer.
There are so many beautiful temples, shrines, and historic areas to explore in Kyoto. A friendly word of advice, if you go back, focus on exploring them rather than the modern shopping districts.

Nice to meet you. Welcome to Japan🌱🌱 You can use your ICOCA card to pay at family restaurants, Starbucks, and other large chain stores! You may want to show it every time you pay your bill at a restaurant👍✨ The Japanese dishes we want you to try are Okonomiyaki, Tonkatsu, Eel, Tempura, Soba, Grilled Fish... there are many! Only eat ramen and sushi once! Melon bread, egg sandwiches, and hot coffee from convenience stores are also a must 🌱🌱 By the way, feasts eaten at special occasions in Japanese households are sukiyaki, yakiniku, unagi (eel), and nigirizushi. In Japan, ramen has the image of being a quick meal for businessmen's uncles. Women do not go to ramen restaurants with other women. It is very sad that most Japanese food overseas seems to be ramen and sushi. Oh, one more excellent thing about vending machines 🎵 In the event of a major disaster such as an earthquake, when many people are unable to return home, the vending machines will be opened for free as emergency beverages. 4.5 to 8 million people are expected to be unable to return home in Tokyo😳!
I would love to do what you do. Love your videos. All of japan looks amazing and the people look friendly. The only thing that will be hard is the language barrier bc i dont speak any japanese
I love the way you travel having no specific plans at times and are very respectful of the culture as well! That’s what traveling is about! No foreign travelers are ignorant. They are exploring and trying to take all in everything new to them within the time they have there. Enjoy!!
I live in Tokyo and I love visiting in Kyoto as a trip. Especially The season of cherry blossoms and autumn leaves is wonderful.🌸🍁 I highly recommend The monkey park in Arashiyama !! That's very fun and you can feel nuture .very very popular with foreign people also The Bamboo forest is also wonderful !!!! Please don't miss it😊
Welcome to Kyoto mate! You really need to visit Kiyomizu-dera while in Kyoto, I highly recommend you visit universal studios in Osaka (harry potter ride, spiderman and the water jurassic park ride)
Hi again, the area at (6:18 second) is commonly known as Shotengai which translated to walking-streets area that can be found throughout Japan. Most Shotengai have similar architecture like the one here in your VDO. You can find mom and pop shops, restaurants, wet market as well as franchises like Uniqlo, Book-off or Mcdonald's along the stretch of any Shotengai.
Hey Zane. Been following you through your adventures in Asia. You have this honest fun view on things. Love the way you try out your meals and your comments!
Gyoza is originally from China, except Japan grills their Gyoza while in China they put it in a soup so you don't get that crisp. They taste completely different. I 100% prefer the Japan style grilled Gyoza as it goes great with beer.
Good stuff I love watching these videos. Not sure exactly how it works but when you win money at Pachinko, they give you these “blocks” of plastic bars (might be different by store), and you take take that to a window (you can’t see people, literally a small window where people line up) outside of the store to get it exchanged to money. My guess is they have two separate legal entities to get around laws? Gambling is not allowed in Japan at this time… MGM is building a casino in Osaka and that might become the first ever “proper” casino.
I lived in Kyoto for four years. I used to go through Nishiki Market all the time, usually to get to the Hyaku-en tachinomi (100 yen standing bar) where beers were 200 yen and food 100 yen. I miss Kyoto a lot.
Japan has money to spend, so all of the major brands have stores all over the country, not just Tokyo. The shopping district that you entered, at about 6:30 in the video, is very normal for Japan all around the country.
Thanks for your Japan videos. I will be traveling to Tokyo in 5 days. My wife and I are going on a NCL cruise around Japan and in Taipei Taiwan. We will be in Tokyo four days before our cruise. We are going to Tokyo Disney for two days.
Right now the IC cards are slightly limited because of the semiconductor shortage. Keep your IC card as it is good for 10 years and it will keep your amount it. If you buy a 2 liter bottle of water you can refill your water bottles and the price is really cheap for the water.
Next time you are in Kansai, I highly recommend buying nikuman (pork buns) at a chain store called 551 Horai. They only have stores in Kansai and its AMAZING. Sometimes you have to wait like 30min in line but its totally worth it. In Kyoto there is a shop in the Isetan mall near Kyoto Station. Dont just buy one, buy two or three. So addicting
Casinos are illegal in Japan (compared to Vegas). Gambling is legal, horse racing, soccer games (Toto) but the government has allowed these to be available, and even run some of it. There may be card rooms, but you are not winning money.
I love how clean Japan is and also how safe it is. I don't have to worry about gun violence or getting mugged. If you leave your belongings about no one steals it. btw Pachinko is gambling. Technically gambling is illegal in Japan but whatever you win in Pachinko you can trade the token in outside for actual money. Pachinko is basically a loophole to the law.
Thank you for the interesting video! The gambling situation in Japan is complicated. Pachinko and slot machines are essentially similar to casinos, but they are not illegal because the medals are converted into prizes and the prizes are purchased by different stores. Legally, the situation is not publicly recognized, but is tacitly approved. In the near future, there are plans to legalize a full-fledged casino like those in Las Vegas on reclaimed land in Osaka after the Osaka Expo is over.
Indeed. The sale of Suica and Pasmo is currently suspended until further notice; however, the Welcome Suica and Pasmo Passport cards remain available. Icoca is not available in Tokyo. Lining up to buy individual tickets before each public transport trip can be time consuming.@@adimasguntur
Hi Zane: Nice job of wandering and exploring. We're enjoying your Japanese adventure. What is the name of the currency converter app you are using? In a Tokyo segment, you mentioned it as something like "ELK"? Thanks.
How did you enjoy Kyoto comparatively speaking to Tokyo? I love Tokyo but something about Kyoto just felt a lot more comforting. Maybe the old stuff? Lol
So im not sure how accurate my explanation is, but basically the casinos use the same loophole as pachinkos? Either that or you dont really get to cash out at all lol. You pay for your first round of chips and as you win more, you just store that into your "account". So the next time you play you'd basically have a bigger bank. I think, hahaha.
Seeing that tourist guy disregard the no walk sign when crossing the street and looking at everyone like why are they just standing there is just terrible. If you go to a country and don't educate yourself on what you can and cannot do that is just plain ignorance. Obey the rules and laws of another country don't be "that guy".
Casino is illegal, but not Pachinko , which is really double-standard. Pachinko industry has been run mostly by Koreans, (I heard North Koreans, and a huge sum of money has been sent to North Korea) and it's so lucrative. Japanese government is getting a huge revenue from it, so we see the double-standard here. During the Corona crisis, many shops and restaurants were shut down or ran out of business. On the other hand, Pachinko parlors were open as before. Why? The government used this excuse as "the customers don't talk in the parlor."
Yes gambling you bet your money for any valuables is illegal in Japan. Horse racing and boat racing are the only exceptions, which are officially permitted by their specific laws. Pachinko/slot has to be illegal in that theory, but the scheme is that they just give the players metal balls or coins just for entertainment, and ACCIDENTALLY there is a random shop where they buy the balls/coins for some reason. It’s ridiculous but also yakuza related in many cases, so that’s the reason pachinko/slot still exists. I’m not sure how about the casino you saw on the street, but guess they don’t pay money for rewards, but instead some small snacks or something, just for amusement.
If you buy for example the Welcome Suica card in Tokyo, you don't need to buy the ICOCA card in Kyoto right? Its just 1 IC card which you can use for the whole of Japan... or am I wrong here? :D Going next month! 😁
