I've always used Time ATAC and like them. But I always release by swinging my heel IN, not out, probably because my feet naturally go that way I guess. I don't know whether that is good or bad or what but it seems to work for me.
I have been using ATACs for years and been pleased for cyclocross and gravel... I'm now looking for something with a platform to help out when I'm doing technical MTB trails and need some stability before clipping in (or possibly staying unclipped for a section) - have you found the platform big enough for such situations? (part of the allure of these is being able to use one set of shoes/cleats for two different bikes)
I will sometimes ride unclipped on tricky sections of the trail , I find them ok as you can dig your shoes into the pins, now there in no way like a flat pedal but they do work well for short sections.
I have the Time XC4's that I use on my recumbent bike. On the XC4 there is no tension adjustment. I find the release is about where the middle tension setting would be on a Shimano SPD. I use my XC4's on a recumbent bike which has a much higher bottom bracket (24") than a conventional bike, so being able to unclip quickly is a priority. I do use the 10° easy cleat. Since the Speciale 8 has a tension adjustment, how easy is it to unclip in the lightest setting?
Super review thanks for sharing! The TIMES look good, but as the platform profile isn't as flat as the crankbrother platform, I presume when your not clipped in on that super tech section you need a dab on, the platform feel of the Mallets is much better and gripper when not clipped in? I like my mallets, but they desperately lack adjustable springs, they'd be absolutely perfect if they had that feature 😣
Would you recommend these for road cycling? I want to buy MTB shoes because its easier to walk in and where I live its very hilly and road quality is not good so I don't feel safe in road shoes.
In the picture of your shoes with the pieces attached, it shows the right piece on left shoe and left piece on right shoe? But still slides out to the outside of the ankle??? Not working on my pair, I have to slide to the inside of the ankle…???
Does the float feel like being on ice or can you feel your foot planted all around the pedal. I can't stand the ice feeling like shimano. Great review!
I found the lateral float with Time to be the best feature. Not sure about the new version but being able to move a little bit side to side over SPD's is something I didn't know I needed until I went back to Shimano. I may be grabbing these soon though.
not sure if you're still checking comments on this but do you happen to know if there is a rider weight limit specified for these? do you think they would stand up to the occasional downhill center on my enduro bike?
@@jedmtb Time are easier to declip, even with 13degres of float? I have 4 on my shimano so that mean I'll have to twist my foot 3 times as much to declip... :S I think I'll buy Nukeproof with 4 degres instead but....always wanted to try those Time pedals! :( The easiest cleat is still at 10degres and I'm afraid it will declip too easily, like while jumping or something!
Thanks for the video, not many Time Speciale vids out there. I just received my Time Speciale 12 pedals and brand new Ride Concepts Transition Clipless shoes. The RC shoes require a shim for the Time cleat but as I can see with your package, you didn’t receive any. Any idea where I can get some shims? I’ve looked all over the internet. Thanks.
@@jedmtb thanks, I ordered some Crank Brothers Shoe Shieds and a back up set of shims from that guy in Australia who does Bike Fitting. Crazy that Time doesn't include any with their pedals.
@@jedmtb just installed them on my bike with Ride Concepts Transition shoes and crank brothers shoe shields. Having a tough time clicking in, I switched to the 17 degree by reversing the cleat (right goes on left) and to get out I have to turn my foot toward the crank. Have you opted for the 17 degree?
Hi, i saw that the time cleats do not have the longholes, like shimano cleats have, is that a problem for you. I tried shimano pedals and have to move the cleats fully to the inside of the shoe, so my shoes don not scratch at the bike.
So how hard are these to clip into and out of compared to the CB Mallet E? I'm currently on CB Mallet Es and find them a bit hard to clip into, mostly very vague
How are they running? I used time pedals for years because cyclo cross races block Shimano cleats immediately, without fail, how are your bearings holding up? The only real issues i had were poorly sealed, but replaceable bearings and slightly shorter cleat life over Shimano, how are you finding them, they never blocked up on me, always worked
At the moment I'm running Crankbros Mallet E and I've been having issues trying to get my back foot out. Whenever I try to unclip my back foot, my toe hits the crank and I can't get enough twist to get out. Did you have this issue with Crankbros or Time?
Jed MTB it's always done it. It's super frustrating because I know how to clip out and I have the muscle memory, but when my toe hits the crank it just stops, and I fall over. I've tried moving the cleats all the way in (pushing the shoe farther away from the crank) and I've tried different shoes but it keeps happening.
@@torjohnston2724 Have you tried swapping the cleats over? the one that has a dot on it will be a 15° release angle when on the right shoe and a 20° release angle when on the left shoe.
I have a 17 year old set of Time ATAC pedals, that I'm currently still using with no issues.
I've gone through 4 sets of Time's, mostly bending the clip or cracking the body on rocks. Bearings fine btw.

Thx for the subtitles and the video 👍

You are correct the CB have a bigger gripper platform, saying that I’ve never had any problems with the Time when unclipped.

They have more feedback than the Mallet's, I have the tension set high on mine as I like to hear and feel when I'm clipped in.

My favourite are the Times so far.

They have been holding up well, only issue so far is the cleats wear quicker than my spd's
