I have seen a lot of people leave comments on here concerning the value of these knives, which in addition to being the price paid for the workmanship, no matter what this man charges these knives are actually worth what people are willing to pay for them which is a considerable sum. I have the deepest respect for the craftsmanship, creativity, and skill that goes into designing and building these knives - which is compounded by the fact that he uses minimal modern machinery. Even the mill and lathe work done, is done by hand and not computer which makes each one of these a one-off. I spent several years in the military learning to work with exotic metals and composites in the line of aircraft repair. Years after getting out of the military as a veteran, I spent 12 years in the biomedical field and had my own business designing tooling, replacement parts, and repairs for endoscopes and Associated equipment. I always thought I had above average design, troubleshooting, and Fabrication skills, but Stan has made me realize how far I have to go as a Craftsman. The knives created by this man has piqued an interest I never knew I had concerning custom blades like this. In addition to being unbelievably beautiful and visceral, the tolerances, function, and hidden Hardware just blows my mind. No matter what you think of this guy or what he charges for his product, this man is a pioneer. And for a world class Craftsman, he's a hell of a nice guy too which says a lot for his character :-)
kool video... Stan Wilson looks kool...they all seem like nice guys and not snobs, that was kool of them to let you into there private space AWSOME!!! THEY ALL MAKE GREAT KNIFES!!
Does this Stan Wilson machine and make the blade himself? The knifes are sweet but that much money for something i could draw up and take to a shop for machining would not take more than £300 materials included
+aaaaalllss not to be mean, but if you have to ask questions like that, then knives like this are not for you. Stan is the equivalent to Enzo Ferrari of the knife world.
Knifes are not for me especially overpriced ones, tbh this came up in my feed one day so i watched it. Thing is though Enzo well Ferrari kinda justify the expense over a basic coupe. Remember when the Bugatti Veyron came out, they where sold for a loss. Limited number of cars made. The total design and build was more then the cost of the car. Ferrari is not the same boat but the cars they produce justify the price in a way. £300 is a fair price for all the products. Honestly It wouldn't be hard to research a couple of hours on knife workings then CAD a design and work from there, not saying the first design would be perfect but with enough experience you could make the same knife for £300. Just like he does! Bet this guy laughs every order he gets.
all true, its all in the eye of the beholder. I understand the ultra high end knives dont make sense to most. For the most part, value of objects like this are all a matter of opinion.
+aaaaalllss He spends 300-400 hours per knife hand fitting and hand finishing every single detail on his knives. You can't program a cnc machine to do things that this man can do with his hands. In my opinion his knives are underpriced for what they are. They are museum grade art pieces that just happen to be expressed as a knife.
Every piece of that knife, mown to the screws and springs are handmade by Stan. That knife in this video is over $3000. On the secondary market, $5000. The Fischer Battle knifes is $2500
Does anyone who spends a few thousand dollars on a Stan Wilson knife actually feel comfortable using it? I figure they would end up putting it in a glass case and using a cheap knife for actual cutting.
Yeah exactly and that's not really a concern.... It's still a tool even if you don't use it as such (you could though if need be) and it has somethings that your dedicated knife tool don't: artistry and engineering....😉
He needs to stop showing the world his mechanisms.. He's a nice guy but what if people learn how to do this and steal it? It would be shit but stupid people would buy it over his.
+Yolo McSwagginz Those would not be Stan's customers anyway. People who buy his knives are after quality. If someone indeed learned to do it like him, they would be respected makers in their own right and entitled to top dollar for their creations.
