I put this in my reply to VR Flight Sim Guy's reply to my comment, but wanted to share a possible side benefit with everyone - with this new cover, I am actually able to wear my glasses with the Reverb G2. I have rectangular lenses (and a rather large head). This cover actually accommodates that width, and it is comfortable to wear. The stock cover was too narrow to fit over my glasses. I just put in over forty minutes of flying in the new Spitfire IXc, and had a hard time putting the Reverb down so I could get to some work that needs doing around the house. The scenery, and especially gauges, are now crystal clear and sharp. I am one happy Reverb G2 and VR Cover owner today.
The stock G2 is super comfy but I do notice the small sweet spot expands greatly if I smoosh it into my face slightly. This also reduces edge blur. I need to try this.
same here. The image is blurry, the sweet spot very small, but if I were 1 cm closer to the lenses, it would be awesome.unfortunately, this accessory doesn't improve anything since it has the same dimensions as the stock cover. Don't get fooled...
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j Yes, but even the thinner one is still not at the right distance for my eyes it seems. I 3D printed a support and glued some foam on it, which brings my face closer to the screens and it has solved this issue somewhat. Clicked the link, bought the new pads, looking forward to trying them out! If there is one complaint I would have about the Reverb G2, it would be the FOV. You sounded genuinely pleased when you fitted the thinner one, and I've seen DIY solutions on TH-cam that also seem to go the thin route. Nice to find a properly fitted and recommended product. What was a really good (but slightly blurry, especially for instruments) experience is now sharp and clear and worth every penny I put into the G2 and the VR covers. Thank YOU so much!
Interesting how you and MRTV came to somewhat different conclusions. on the VR Cover FAQ they did mention face shape does play a roll if the FOV is increased or not. I purchased this VR cover interface set this morning along with the 3DWard Printing FOV gasket/interface to try out both. the 3DWard appears to be very similar to the jewcookie "frankenfov deluxe" that MRTV reviewed and does come with nose flaps to help seal off light leakage.

Nice video but I have one question. Do you see more the pixels when you use the thinner version? I don't want to loose picture clarity for the wider FOV.
I don't have an HP REVERB G2 yet because I'm afraid I might be disappointed by this famous sweet spot, and I was wondering if bringing the eyes closer to the lenses, improved, or made the sweet spot worse.
@@pauldupond5653 Paul, I can confirm it does not improve the sweet spot, I have to use my Q2 over my G2 simply because of the tiny sharp area in the G2 vs the Q2 albeit slight less clarity but complete uniform clarity throughout, for example on a track at Brands Hatch stopping at the same place in both headsets, in the Q2 I can look left with just my eyes and read the brake marker pretty clearly with little to no difference in clarity to the centre, in the G2 however this same brake marker is just one big blob of blur, it's incredibly unreadable and only way to read it is to move my whole head over, which as you know in sim racing going 150mph up to a corner is something you don't really have time to do, so my Q2 stays as my sim headset for now. Don't get me started in MSFS like the G1000 panels, what I said about the brake marker is just 1000x increased due to all the dials.
@@Deankenny21 Hi, And thank you for your feedback. I received the G2 and I see the same thing, for the braking points. In MSFS unlike a lot of people, I don't mind the sweet spot. Moreover, following the remark of a person, I have the impression that with the updates, that it improved.
Hi mate your videos have been great, i've just bought a G2 and i was wondering what gives better results in terms of FOV this device with the thin cover or the FrankenFOV mod? I'm using it mainly for sim racing and some flight sim too
@@VRFlightSimGuy i'm not sure i ordered it from HP last week should be here tomorrow, i think its the Version 1 headset though, just hoping its the V2 cable
PU lether pads are terrible. Yes, you can wash them, but sweat is killing fun. You need a fan in your face with such solution. Does the original presses on your temples? Is this one for wider face?
We've just been laughing that we came to different conclusion. Keep in mind I've never used the Frankenfov, but without doubt the thinner pad gives me way more fov than stock.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I carefully removed the facial interface completely and held the headset up reasonably to my eyes, and the difference was apparent and striking, not only FOV but also added clarity (although the IPD setting has to be dialed in more). Because of this, I tried the frankenfov mod with the thick foam, but I think it's so thick for me that I didn't notice much difference at all vs. stock. I just ordered this one because I suspect you are right that with the thinner foam, it'll be a good choice. It comes down to head shape, but this seems well worth trying! Thanks.
Why can't they just sell a thicker face pad alone so you can stick it onto the G2 and skip the gasket? That's what I did with a Vive face pad but it's not a perfect fit, but it does make the gasket obsolete, we just don't need it.
Are the sides any wider than original? I tried to compare using pictures and it looks to me that there might be a few millimeters difference. The sides on original are too narrow for my face and they are pushing the front away. So I thought a few mm wider gasket combined with thinner pad - this is what I was waiting for and I ordered it with expedited shipping. Then I watched MRTV's review and he says there is no difference in size and curvature of the gasket. I thought about canceling the order but I decided not to. I want to give it a try. I stopped using G2 with flight sims because of its narrowness and went back to Rift S. Currently I'm using it ocasionaly with Frankenfov mod, without gasket, only pad. FOV and sweet spot are wider, but I find it a bit uncomfortable.
I haven't measured it like Seb, but I go by how it feels... And they feel great! Much better than stock with a wider fov. We will be chatting about our different opinions on the podcast tonight 😅
How does this give more FOV if it has the exact same dimension of the original one? I tried all the 3d printed ones, all of them are superior to the factory face gasket.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Have you tried any of the community-made ones to have a basis of comparison there? Because the stock gasket is god-awful for quite a few of us (I get a headache within minutes because it is too narrow).
Hi guys, I have had a Rift S since Nov 2019, it has been a great first VR headset and blew me away in DCS. Since MSFS 2020 came out I have been very disappointed with the problems I have been experiencing, constant flashing (not fixable by updates, and I have Tray Tool, etc.). I am planning to upgrade to the Reverb G2, do you think this is a good move? Is there another VR headset I should wait for? Thank you.
Hello, and thanks for the information. I live in Norway, so I went to the "Shop in Europe" link, and there I see an option "Silicone Cover for HP Reverb G2". However, when I go to the shop worldwide option, I see another available product, called "Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set for HP Reverb G2", these two products being priced at 14 GBP and 29 USD respectively. Which one of these is the one that may improve my FOV ? I tried to order the USD one, but at checkout I was told that they don't ship to Norway.
Cool review, love your Channel. Is it Easy to remove the original pads ? How about glasses, the Rift S is great with glasses, but on the Reverb G2, the pads pushes quite hard on the sides of the rods maling it uncomfortable(for me and other people I know) ?
Thankyou so much! :) No need to remove the original pad, just replace the interface with the VR cover version which is great quality. As for glasses, neither me or my partner Melissa wear them. But as soon as Lockdown ends, I'll be able to test this out on my friends! Cheers.
Hi Steve, listening to you talking about field of view, I have to ask you the following question. I returned my Reverb G2 to HP because the picture quality was only good at the very center. Everything outside of the center was so blurry that it was making me feel sick. I therefore had to move my head constantly instead of moving my eyes. I can't even imagine how much blurrier a wider FOV would have been. How is it with your Reverb G2? Is your picture sharp all around or are you also experiencing blurry image outside of the center? Cheers
Did you make sure you were displaying the native resolution in Steam VR or open XR? It's beautifully sharp. Of course, the image quality deteriorates as you move away from the centre, this will be more noticeable due to that sharpness in the centre. For me, the sweet spot is great. Make sure your IPD and fitment is correct.
Thanks for your answer. I made sure in openXR that it xas displaying native resolution and tried to adjust the headset position but didn't get anything good. Reading the menus in MSFS was also a challenge as i had to move my head in the direction of each word to be able to read it properly. I even had other people to try as i thought maybe it was a problem with my eyes (as I'm getting older). I also couldn't get any sound out of the Reverb speakers. So after a few days, I returned it to HP. Too bad, the immersion feeling was amazing.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Maybe. But I've now read or heard reviews from several people complaining about the sharpness issue. I'll give VR another try in... 10 years maybe. In the meantime, I'll experience it through your vids ;-)

I'm using it mainly for sim racing and some flight sim too
Thankyou. To be honest the new version 2 with the spacer is the best upgrade available. Do you have that?
@@VRFlightSimGuy i'm not sure i ordered it from HP last week should be here tomorrow, i think its the Version 1 headset though, just hoping its the V2 cable
PU lether pads are terrible. Yes, you can wash them, but sweat is killing fun. You need a fan in your face with such solution. Does the original presses on your temples? Is this one for wider face?
Hi there - I’m wondering if you have to take your eye glasses off when using it. Is that the case?
Probably as it puts yours eye much closer to the lens.i can't say for certain though
But MRTV measured it and it was the same as the original.
Good point
Thanks Steve I have ordered one after you review, I tried to use your link but it only went to the EU site and i had to do worldwide :(
No worries, did you order the thinner version? It's really great.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I didnt see a option when I ordered, but have sent them an email asking for the thinner version.
Due to the thinner pad, I am comparing this to the stock interface and it's a huge improvement.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Have you tried any of the community-made ones to have a basis of comparison there? Because the stock gasket is god-awful for quite a few of us (I get a headache within minutes because it is too narrow).
How does this fair if you have glasses? Risk of lens contact?
Probably not great as it puts your eyes much closer to the lens. I can't say for certain though
They don’t seem to ship this to the UK and the European store only sells the standard cover? How did you get this?
Europe availability in 1-2 weeks
Thanks, been watching your channel for a month or so. It’s really good, and very informative :)
I’ve been looking for this as I find the stock faceplate too narrow. Still waiting though as not released in U.K. (EU store) yet!
Shouldn't be long, 1-2 weeks max thanks for watching
they are in stock now, I just ordered one
Hi guys, I have had a Rift S since Nov 2019, it has been a great first VR headset and blew me away in DCS. Since MSFS 2020 came out I have been very disappointed with the problems I have been experiencing, constant flashing (not fixable by updates, and I have Tray Tool, etc.). I am planning to upgrade to the Reverb G2, do you think this is a good move? Is there another VR headset I should wait for? Thank you.
Turn off beta channel in Oculus. Your flashing woes will disappear
Thank you! Is the wider fov comparable with the index?
Hi I doubt it, although I've never tried an Index so I can't say for sure.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you!!! :)
Europe and Scandinavia will be available in a couple of weeks I believe
Dear Steve: can I use them on a HP reverb g1?,also is there any way I can get better headphones replacements for the crappy sound on the g1?
Hi these are designed for the G2. There are a number of different options available for the G1 might be worth a look on their site. 👍
Not for sale in Europe ????
Soon. 1-2 weeks.
will glasses still fit with this?
Probably not as it puts your eyes much closer to the lens. I can't say for certain though
Cheers.
Hi again. It looks like the original pads has been removed before you put on the VR cover cushions (I did not mean the silicone cover) ?
@@youtubewolfsberg4840 This is their own separate face gasket
Does this work for the V1 or V2 ??
Both (I think)
Did not increase the FOV for me. I guess it depends on your face shape. Also the original cover is more comfortable.
The link doesnt seem to work anymore
Do you mean my link or the website itself? I'll check
works for me
very confusing, link to the fov g2 facial interface?
Sorry Alan I'll fix that in a second.
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks a mill mate!!!

@@VRFlightSimGuy perfect!!! buying now. sorry it might have been in the Euro store and didnt read it properly. great job!!
ill wait for the Euro release in a week or two. waiting patiently!!
@@lexscapephotography Sounds like a duff unit :(
@@VRFlightSimGuy Maybe. But I've now read or heard reviews from several people complaining about the sharpness issue. I'll give VR another try in... 10 years maybe. In the meantime, I'll experience it through your vids ;-)
I am afraid that this solution is not suitable (unfortunately) for people who wear glasses.
Unless to use optical correction overlays for the G2.
Probably not as it puts your eyes much closer to the lens. Ican't say for certain though
I have my pad stuck directly to the G2. Now have full FOV
Cool now I can have a even bigger blurry fov in mfs2020🙄😳😉👍
???? The Reverb G2 is not blurry. Maybe check your IPD or Open XR settings
Personally, I hated these covers. It is uncomfortable to wear, you get a lot of light bleed around the nose.
Boooohh, no shipping to switzerland - it's the one thing I go back to my old headset, bigger fov...
The release for Europe will be in the next 1 - 2 weeks.
@@VRFlightSimGuy that was a quick response! looking forward to try it, looks a gamechanger - used the g2 without faceinlet, only thick older VR-covers from the vive - not comfy, but much better fov, with the inlet, should be very good
there is no difference what so ever regarding fov from the original its the exact same gasket with a different padding
Only difference is foam pad. It is way softer and smooshes down more bringing you closer to lens. I suppose you could replace just the padding and do the same.
You look like a ypung russel crowe
😅
How do you install this bad boy? And I've gotta stop watching your channel, at this rate you're gonna bankrupt me!! ;)
Haha send my apologies to your wallet 😁 It's very easy to install
@@VRFlightSimGuy OK, very easy is good, but I was sorta looking for a few more specifics. Like, am I off buying velcro or magnets at other places, or is it a turn key all in the box solution, just stick the included velcro where it tells you to, or whatever the case may be... Thanks in advance for your help.
Oh, and you'll probably have to apologize to my wife for the wallet stuff. But watch out, she's Puerto Rican, has chunklets, and knows how to use them! (Chunklets is slang spanglish for flip flops that PR women have been known to throw at people who anger them... and it's all in good fun!)
@@kevykevTPA lol that made me chuckle. It's literally as easy as pull of your old facial interface and stick the new one on. I'm pretty sure I show this in the video?
@@VRFlightSimGuy OK, I ordered it, almost completely because of your recommendation. If it sucks, you're buying me the Just Flight Arrow with your money! But I won't tell your wife...
