BEST tutorial ever!!! The tightening part has always been where I met my downfall and u show the absolute best instruction for success!!! Thank u!!! ☺️🇺🇸
Nice, I'm an ex Aussie navy Sig, we used to make these for our flag signals halyards but we'd weigh them down with some old nuts in the middle. Your demonstration is much simpler than I remember the buffer on a ship I was on doing for us. In the intervening years I'd forgotten how to do it, so thanks, my dogs will love you 😀
Okay 7th time is the charm! And after I finished TH-cam went to your next knot, the “heaving line knot”. So much easier. But I swear as a kid I saw my Navy father’s crew heaving lines with a Monkey’s Fist knot…
One of the clearest, most detailed explanations I've seen for making a monkey's fist knot. Most of the others lose me when their hands get in the way of what I'm supposed to be seeing or they assume I should know something I don't know. This one has none of that. I make small versions of these for Christmas tree ornaments.
I made these while I was at a maritime academy. Wife asked if I could make one to use a door stopper and I said, "not a problem". Just as soon as I check out a refresher video. LOL. Well done on the vid! And, thank you!
Hey Delrvpilot! How would you use this to make a door stopper? Is it something you'd just drop on the floor? Or hang it from the doorknob? Something else??
Fabulous! I tied many of these back in my tugboating days because ship's crews often didn't return them when we were doing assists, or crewmembers left them on barges. I used my Ashley's for guidance but never felt that book, comprehensive as it is, was the best tutorial. Video helps a lot, but this fellow's low-key simplicity and hints are just perfect.
Great videography and very detailed explanation on this knot. In the past when someone was trying to teach me this knot I’d get frustrated and just give up. I’m a lot older now and being in the scouts is all but a distant memory. I found your video and hoped for the best. Glad I did! That was definitely the best example of how to get this knot accomplished and added to the knot tying inventory. Thank you sir!
TIP: The tightening may take several iterations; especially if you want to keep everything nicely organized. Super good explanation, thanks, worked on first try.
Thank you for a well detailed and a pace that was perfect and in laymen's terms of you are just starting out and learning . I have been through at least 20 + videos nothing compares to the way you prepared ,demonstrated and paced every move while explaining in detail why. In my opinion the best tutorial video on the monkey fist knot anywhere with dozens of tries and alot of hours i kept getting lost ,thanks again God bless and looking forward to another spectacular tutorial down the road.
THAT was absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much! You have taken what I have considered to be an intimidating process and made it easy enough for me to follow. Also, you pointed out areas where one might go wrong so we will avoid that. I am so impressed and thankful for this video!!
I messed up. I didn't know what strand to tighten next, because i tugged it from the center and the next strand didn't move (so I wasn't able to locate it). I kept going forward and back, forward and back. So I had to file my nails later. Great tutorial BTW. Very detailed
Width of a palm is roughly 3.5 inches. A full wrap around roughly 7. Times 3 wraps is 21. Times 3 sets of that is 63. Tack on a little for the first overhand and the tail, id say ~75-80 inches
6 years later and you're still helping people! I got it the second time trying but I suffered the frustration the first time of the loops getting mixed up and you're right when you say it's hard to get them back to normal again 😅😅 I just kept making it worse
That monkey fist noose is what I always have in my backpack as a weapon lol. But I made one as a rope toy for my dog too. And just made a pocket sized one for keys and stuff. I’m memorizing it now 😂 but I messed up on my last one so I’m still off by some. That’s why I came here.
I get lost on the tightening part, I just keep going round and round with the same piece and never get to the end bit. So frustrating! So then I have to try and undo the whole thing! About a hundred times 😝 Fellow Aussie here :)
My first money fist. I ended up with four strands on two sides and three on the rest. Considering I was using a 'pillow tube' instead of rope I think I did alright 😅.
You could make one using steel bolts, duck tape them together in a ball form, keep ductaping around it verry tightly until you have a smooth ball, its important to ductape tightly. Use youre brains, and household items to make a nice solid ball with old bolts/screws inside
So well described…I can do that…100 ft. rope so I can toss the rope I’ve a tree limb…oh no, crossed a loop…start over…oops, crossed again…3rd times a charm? Nope…time to look for a way to tie it backwards without pulling 100 ft if rope every time…
the part where you cross the rope over and the last set of wraps is whats messing me up. i cant tell if youre going over or under the "half wrap" thatson the inside and once i get to the end, the side withthe knot has 4 wraps and doesnt go into the middle without unraveling
I tied this knot once in the drawstring of some blinds, and discovered something I feel I need to pass on. DO NOT tie this knot in something unless you intend to leave it. As hard as it is to tie, it is even harder to untie. I really sweated it until I had the damn thing undone! My mother would have killed me! You've been warned. ;-)
What is the finished knot called on the opposite end of the monkey fist knot (shown in yellow rope for the link to your instructions) ? I would love to learn how to make that.
😇🌷 I'm wanting to try this, using nautical rope, BUT I don't know how long the rope is supposed to be ??? AND the nautical rope➰ I'm wanting to use, is already pre cut { from the Dollar Tree } 🤔😊➰
Hi, The image before video shows monkey fist with a loop and something like a gathering Knot. Would like know how to make it. Where can I find the tutorial on it?
So I am doing this with a thin paracord, just to learn this stuff. The issue I m consistently having with the cordage that I am using is that it keeps getting twisted up on itself and forming loops inside the knots. Do you have any suggestions or tricks that will help avoid this in wrapped core ropes?
Instead of putting the end of the rope through the knot and pulling until it is tight, try folding the rope over then push the folded section through the knot and pull on the loop until the end slips through.
BEST tutorial ever!!! The tightening part has always been where I met my downfall and u show the absolute best instruction for success!!! Thank u!!! ☺️🇺🇸
I finally, FINALLY managed to make my first successful monkey fist note thanks to this tutorial!
I somehow managed to mess everything up and now my monkey fist actually looks like it was made by a monkey
How hilariously ironic
thats crazy
Mine too
Im cackling lmfao
@@jasonzheng1493Is it really, Jason?
Thank you for such a great detailed video. The fact that you didn’t go at break neck speed gives me hope that it will work when I try it!
Best Monkey Fist tutorial out there.

The best Monkey’s fist I’ve ever seen. I really enjoy you’re tutorials .... more than any others actually. Thank you for your instruction.

You have some TREMENDOUS PATIENCE my friend !!!
Excellent tutorial!
Never tried complicated knots, and I succeeded first time 'round.
My puppy and I say thank you ^^
Great tutorial! Just made one with a spare bit of climbing cord.
This is such a clear and easy to follow tutorial! Genuinely phenomenal!
I now have a monkey's paw and you have a new follower! Cheers!

This is correct. Key detail that most people miss is the diagonal axis change.
Thank you, the first clear demo I have seen in making this knot.
Omg I made it thanks to this video! Now my dog is happy af
i made keychains for graduates of my sailor's camp. they were delighted.
This is the best guide I have ever seen
I’ve been watching the wrong channel! Your way is heaps better and with a better accent. From Brisbane! 😄😄😄

This was AMAZING! Finally a monkey fist tutorial that has left me feeling confident and not confused. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the clear tutorial! I am making dog toys for our new dog, and she will love one with a monkey's fist on the end!

wish you included the loop at the other end! oh well, guess im due for another video search
Ever find that? Looking for it myself
@@Wolf-lx9xosame, I really wanna know what knot it is
Same here can't find anywhere
What is the ideal rope length to begin with so there isn't too much to effectively work with ?
i would also like to know. trying to make a dog toy

Do they make a velcro version for beginners?
I also like how calming your voice.

Fantastic tutorial thanks. A friend made one for our new puppy but it’s huge!
So I just used you vid to teach myself how to make a smaller one.
I made one of these years ago when I was a deep sea diver. I had a chunk of lead the size of a golf ball in the center.
Plus I like that the knot's filling is the same material, attached.
That monkey fist noose is what I always have in my backpack as a weapon lol. But I made one as a rope toy for my dog too. And just made a pocket sized one for keys and stuff. I’m memorizing it now 😂 but I messed up on my last one so I’m still off by some. That’s why I came here.
wow the best tutorial on youtube thank you very much!!
Your knot tying videos are GREAT!!!! They show in detail the flow of the cord. Thank you so much for your tutorials!!!

I don’t recommend overworking yourself all at once so just take breaks
I feel your pain. but I keep pulling the send knot back out.
Great tutorial, easy for the kids to follow, thanks 🙂 probably about the only thing that particular Bunnings rope is useful for too 🤣
POV : Your desperately trying to do this with yarn.
My first money fist. I ended up with four strands on two sides and three on the rest. Considering I was using a 'pillow tube' instead of rope I think I did alright 😅.
Great for adding weight or momentum to the end of a rope that has to be thrown a distance e.g boat docking
Awesome, Thanks so much for this ! :)
awesome ! whats the size and length of line to start with for a rookie?
Now do THE MONKEY
I love your hands even more than your tutorials. : )
These make brilliant zipper pulls if made using thin rope
HOW DO YOU TIE THE HANDLE????? I can’t find it anywhere!😩
Instructions unclear, ended up with monkey testicles.
😂😂
great tutorial i finally made this awesome knot
Love all your videos. Like the knots shown and the instructions are awesome! Thanks!
You are so easy to follow thanks
I’ve got heaps of heavy lifting loop slings if you can figure out how to tie a ball with one of those you are a god amongst men. Cheers

Great tutorial. Very easy to follow. Thanks.
Bravo! It worked!
What's next, the Monkey knot? The poop loop? The double diamond knot?

Gday mate how’s the wheather up there?
how long does the rope need to be?
Rope rule #1: If you think you have enough rope, you probably need more
Miguelino I just tried this with 15m of paracord, it was a tiny bit much
I tied this knot once in the drawstring of some blinds, and discovered something I feel I need to pass on.

how did you finish the knot in the thumbnail?? the loop finish??
Looks like a noose.
how about you teach us how to do the one in the thumbnail ?
Yep, came for the one in the thumbnail :(
it is it was the thing in the end was just to tie the end
A noose😳
Just tie a hangman’s knot on the opposite end and there you go

What about the other end like in the thumb nail, which is why I watched.

Hi, The image before video shows monkey fist with a loop and something like a gathering Knot. Would like know how to make it. Where can I find the tutorial on it?
Good, clear instructions!
How long is your working length please sir ?
Only that this is almost impossible to do with a regular (thinner) paracord which isn't nearly as stiff as what is being used here.
How long is that length of rope to start with?
How did you tie the handle in the cover photo?
I have one with a golf ball in and my sons has a large marble sized ball bearing
I need to get some more rope for this, would love to make a keychain with this. Thanks for posting!
