The letter 'T' is for Tachibana High School Band, they are known throughout the world & have played many times in the USA, they are also WORLD CHAMPIONS...REX (UK)

Krizz this band is a club activity. The students pick the music, create the choreography, and assign the practice sessions. They practice 37 or 38 hours/week, 51 weeks/year. They do allow themselves a 3 day summer vacation. The 3rd year students teach the lower grades how to "march" in the Tachibana way. They do all this while maintaining the required 3.0 grade point average. They are the most impressive high school band I know. Tachibana tension!

Love the reaction Krizz! At first I was sceptical that you hadn't witnessed a Tachibana performance before but the look on your face (Priceless!) shows it to be true. There are so many KT videos on YT if you want to see more, particularly recommended are; "Rose Parades" 2012 and 2018 inc.Bandfests, Benefit Concerts and Disneyland appearances to mention a few! As you guessed, these kids undergo a punishing regime of practice and training (30 odd hours a week - in their own time!) no holidays and because this is non-curricular they have to keep up with their studies as well. These are "SUPERKIDS"! Enjoy your future encounters with "The Most Entertaining Marching Band in the World" and we look forward to another KT reaction sometime soon! Love from The U.K.

The Kyoto Tachibana high school marching band was created as a reaction against the military marching tradition imposed on other student bands. KT promotes human and feminine values instead of ones designed to format students into disciplined members of a compliant workforce. As a rebel band which reaches for standards beyond the ones of men whose values are those of the 1950s, it is rare for KT to reach, as they did here, the highest level of the annual marching contest. Because even though Japanese bands are mostly made up of young women, the AJBA, the governing body, is utterly male dominated. Its 23 Directors are all male, and of the other 62 members of the governing board, only four are female. The judges they appoint are all male. So, all hail the rebel KT band who by daring to break convention, still manages to play in the top league whilst at the same time, creating a new form of art! Thank you Krizz, for featuring them.
