Gwen's voice is the aural equivalent to a field of lavender in full bloom. It is strikingly beautiful yet calming, entrancing, captivating and majestic. This music speaks directly to the soul, and there is an inherent transcendental quality within.
The Roy Ayers jawn is what brought me back to find this one again. Heard this first and thought it was an original til I stumbled on Roy Ayers’. Both are outstanding works
I was recently listening to "You Send Me" from Roy Ayers and as track number 5 began I knew I'm somehow already familiar with the melody and words. Great performance!
I love how the album cover art gives a big nod to Herbie's "Sextant". When I came across this album through twitter and saw the cover art, I already knew it'd be a masterpiece!
I just keep saying this...the real artist are not given air play on the radio. I am so in love with this- sounds like -summer- roof top- mimosa toasting -chilling out music. Or just cruise control.....
If we ever get the zombie apocalypse, my remaining time on earth will be spent up on rooftops listening soulful tracks like this while ignoring the madness occurring below me at ground level.
This took me back to the 70s-80s in Philly area. Your music is dynamic, can’t find anything comparable Gwen is perfect. Kind of got that Pieces of a Dream, Dexter Wanzell vibe. Hard to find this type of great music. Thank you!!!
I'm just here again to make sure my "uncle" Onaje Allan Gumbs, the composer of this beautiful tune, gets his props. Originally recorded on the Woody Shaw (Newark, NJ's own) masterpiece of an album, Rosewood. Thank you ***** & band (and Gwen) for an immaculate rendition.
MISS THE DAYS SPENDING TIME CHILLING WITH YOU THIS SONG MAKES ME THINK OF YOU AND ALL THE TIME WE SPENT WITH EACH OTHER..WISH I COULD HOLD YOU CLOSE TO ME ONCE MORE..YOU MADE FILL GOOD EVERYTIME I SAW YOU HELD YOU CLOSE TO ME. STAY SWEET SHAWN ILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU FOR EVER NO MATTER WHAT BABYGIRL💋
Nathan I changed my mind, during that intro, there seems to be some alternating bars of 4 & 5. The rest of the song is either in four or has some other form of 9? (could be 2+2+2+3, more 5+4) Idk, I'm lazy rn (12:46 AM), but it's probably not a complicated time, just some complicated drumming concepts and subdivision. Anyone else got a clue?
+Nathan Yeah most parts are in regular 4/4. The parts that may seem odd are in 9. Here the drummer (and in the outro the rest of the band) plays a simple 2 over 3 pattern which in 9 will add up to be 6 over 9 beats per bar. The clever part is when he makes the 6 his pulse, on top of the original 9 which the band is still playing underneath. Does it make sense? :)
